N64 and SEGA Genesis games coming to Nintendo Switch Online

Don't need to own it to enjoy it. I'd rather rent from Nintendo for the few days I want to play it than buy it on the Wii U virtual console and lose it forever when the console dies.
So paying to play them on an old console is good, but paying to play them on the new one is bad?

If you don't have a Wii U then I guess buying a used one on eBay for $150 - $200 and then buying the 21 games available on the Wii U Virtual console would be one way. It's definitely cheaper and easier than just paying for access to games on an online service. 🙄

This is you defending that shit.

Are the online games STILL 4 player on split screen, on the small Switch screen instead of recognizing each player now had their own screen? Well, that's something...

Damn the NSO plan is hardly worth it as it is. N64 games on the service would be very exciting but I don't know if I can justify paying anything more than a few dollars more than I already do for their half baked service.

Separate tier, pricing to be revealed soon. This is some bull shit, this should definitely be included in the standard plan.

Here's an idea Nintendo, instead of having online service that is so crappy nobody wants it, maybe make a real online service and charge for it instead of force feeding a monthly charge for old games you should be selling.

Nintendo over-valuing their IPs is one thing, but Sega's basically prostituting their 16bit IPs to everywhere w/o worthy followup is practically sad.
N64 game additions should have been just additional service to their existing service, period. Also Sega should be ashamed of themselves.

I'll just wait for the N64 Classic, if there's going to be one.

Sega feels more like a publisher these days, but there's some great games there. Kind of surprised to see their name under some of the titles.

Man it would be sick if Nintendo re released corded 64 controllers. And just bundle it with an adapter like they did with cube controllers on smash Wii U.

I'm not denying their quality of the games - but didn't they already put out Genesis collection with 50 games on Switch and every other platform? (It's like 15 bucks for 50)

Then coming out being on part of expansion pack and all.. I don't know. As a Sega fan, I love my MD games - but I would love to see them come up with more worthy games or something new than just re-hashing and re-releasing same Genesis games, that can be found on pretty much everywhere, every platform - selling on the nostalgia of the fans.

TBH, If they are going to milk their past franchises and games - I'd love to see more Saturn and DC games to be re-released with proper emulation. Skies of Arcadia, or cleaned up version of Burning Rangers or whatnot.

I'm happy for this, I want a legal, bugd free, glitches free way to play old games, honestly the best anouncement so far for me.

Ppl getting overly dramatic here lol, go find a live, Nintendo don't owe you shit nor any other company, you may not like it but there's a lot of market for that, oc they'll do it, nothing wrong with that, nobody is fool for wanting things, just don't buy it yourselves lol... And lol at "defending" arguments, they are toys, you're taking too srsly, emotionally and personal some TOYS lmao, grow up.

I paid for these games on the Wii, and I'm pretty sure I paid for them again on the Wii U. But now they want me to pay a subscription fee for them?

You can cex an actual console with a couple of games for the price of their controller so the value proposition seems terrible here.

I really don't get why they don't just throw every first party SNES, N64 and GBA game on there day one and charge £10 a month, that seems far more reasonable than paying a subscription for like 8 games, most of which we already paid for before.. like, who asked for subscription megadrive games? You can buy a huge bundle of them in Steam for a fiver, so that's barely adding any value to the service

It's cool that Nintendo is doing it at all but my god, you'd think they could offer something cutting edge or head turning.

Other people have mentioned it but it's true, successful Nintendo is the worst Nintendo.
I'm honestly flabbergasted why no Gameboy, Gameboy color or Gameboy advance games are on there yet. They're much, much easier to emulate. They're also handheld games and the Switch is perfect for them. I really do not understand Nintendo at all.

Actually wait I change my mind. Figured it out just as I posted this. They can't sell an accessory with GB/GBC/GBA games, so they won't add them at all.

Can't wait to when game cube are available under the Nintendo switch online plus ultra subscription.

Wii u with plus ultra diamond subscription 😱
I know you’re joking but Nintendo will add GameCube/Wii games and some other goodies to this tier of NSO in 2022. Mods can check this.

Nintendo playing their fans for the fool for 25 years now.

Why the heck would I play N64 games with an N64 controller on a console with better controls? (Switch)

Also $50.

Also if you have an Xbox you already have 70% of the games worth it on the system, also with a better controller too.

I mean at best the new N64 controller will maybe actually be analog this time and maybe not wear out and break as easily, but it's still a questionable move.

The controller is optional. You can continue playing with the Switch controller.

I don't care if it's a higher price, just don't make shit complicated. What happens when a new platform hits, Expansion Plus Plus? Fucking hell charge one fee, make it easy.
This.
I'm confused, and usually easily so lol
Just put the subscription as a whole up by a couple of dollars/pounds/internal organs or whatever.

Extra cost is BS. I’m such a mark I normally have no issue with their practices but this one bothers me. I also like how they announced this after the yearly sub payment has come and gone, fuckers!

N64 is one of the few systems where it makes a big difference to use the original controller. Its games were made around it, and its unique, meaning many titles have a trade-off on a different gamepad. I hate to play N64 Zelda games on anything but the real controller, mostly for C buttons (item mapping, ocarina notes) and the better control stick.

Yes I said better. Do the archery range with an N64 stick and then again with anything else. Tell me what you think about it then. I hate playing old games using inferior hardware to what I was using in 1999.

I hope the new N64 controller is more durable. But if it trades away any accuracy for that, it's a dealbreaker. It's the most accurate, precise control stick I've ever used...regardless of whether you call it analog or digital.

Hell no. I'd pay at most $5-10 for each.
Nintendo are such dick heads.

I paid for Pokémon Silver and Yellow on my 3DS, can’t play on Switch. Can’t play Pokémon Emerald, Fire Red unless you own the GBA cartridge, they aren’t available on any e-store. Same for Soul Silver, Diamond and Pearl, Black and White - you need the DS cart.

I don’t know how they can be so fucking shit. Just let me buy GBA and N64 games on my Switch for £5 a pop and let me buy DS games for a tenner and I’d have already spent over a hundred quid. As it is I just pirate on my 3DS.

dedicated servers or fuck it all

also i think i'm more excited for Genesis games then N64, as i never owned a Genesis and it was a very cool little console. But yeah, this shit better not be expensive or just lol....

About the price of the N64 controller. The thing was $30 during its original run in the 90's. Adjusted for inflation, that's $52 in 2021. And they added wireless.

Fuck this. Unfortunately my nso membership just automatically renewed otherwise I'd cancel it out of sheer pissed offness. Charging more for games that are already 30 years old cause you know there are suckers? Fuck you.

If only there was some other way to play these games that I bought before (some multiple times) in higher resolution and framerates.

Sega genesis is a great addition. It works really well for the Switch online model: the genesis is filled with games that are fun and that you wouldn't play otherwise and most importantly it's games you don't need to commit to. The n64 announcement is a bit disappointing. I feel bringing over the many n64 remakes the 3DS has would be a better choice. Really the problem with this is that the n64 doesn't have a lot of good games.

Getting pretty silly at this point, they should just have a store with these for $5 each.
This allows them to have more control over when these titles come off of nso due to licensing, it also means they arent forced to honor any purchases going forward. I think it sucks but it is what it is

The genesis games have castlevsnia, contra, musha, and strider which is not in the other collections which is a plus, but the n64 games I can do without. They really needed fzeroX.

I’m slightly interested in this, but the last year of drip feeding games every 3 months has been really rough. The first year with monthly nes updates even if the games were “meh” at least gave you something to look forward too. Is the every 2 to 3 month garbage wait for 3 games going to still be the plan moving forward?

You know they're just luring you in with good games now, and then the shit shovelware will come like with the SNES and NES games.

You already have a hint of this with WINBACK being one of the launch offerings.

Don't believe their lies.
