Is it time for Capcom to give Street Fighter a break?

From playing the original streetfighter in the arcades , as well as playing through all tekkens, soul caliburs and mortal kombat apart from the last one, i played streetfighter v when it first came out on ps4 but didnt like it compared to the 4 one then switched to just tekken and soul calibur on ps4, but just recently upgraded streetfighter to all the content and loving it again, i do wish there had been a ps5 upgrade of 4k60 with pc high textures, but im happily looking forward to the next one, for me a graphical upgrade better online code and ill be happy dont want none of this team mechanics or into full 3d

I play on PC but SFV never got a patch for ps4 pro did it? Oof, that seems like one of the simpler things to implement (bumping the resolution) compared to adding costumes and such. Seems strange that such a popular game never got updated…

Power Stones 3 is a must.

I'd also take another Capcom vs SNK or another crossover collab akin to the Tatsunoko game. Shame not a whole lot of people got to experience that one. It was great!

I gave myself a break from Street Fighter so I'm good with Capcom making another. Hopefully the next one launches with better single player options because lack of them led me to dump SFV.

Yeah ps4, ps4 pro and ps5 all play the same 1080p 60fps , i think its to late in the game now for capcom to bring a patch now, ive got sfv for pc but my pc is all boxed up while trying to sort out a new house, i just hope sf6 they push ps5 version , but will still prob buy on ps5 and pc

A break? They didn't even want to make Street Fighter V, and they wouldn't have if they'd have to of paid paid for it themselves so I'm not sure we'll ever get Street Fighter VI out of them unless one of the console manufactures is willing to foot the bill for them again.

I do agree that they should go back to a far more 2D looking art style though, you only have to look at what ARC System Works does with the Guilty Gear games now to see how incredible 3D pretending to be 2D can be. :messenger_smiling_hearts:

I kind of just want a street fighter vs Capcom type game by the end of this gen. Maybe start off with a Street fighter game and then do Darkstalkers game and then add all of the characters from both games and put in some more characters for the ultimate Capcom fighting game.

Do you know why CvS3 won't happen? Because their deal would have to be multilateral again. Back then Capcom cvs games profits were all Capcom's, and SNK''s were all SNK. Both parties were free to use any IP from the other.

Unless this happens again, I don't see SNK licensing their characters and Capcom wanting to share the profits...

For someone like me who isn't very good at fighters but enjoy them and can do basic things and enjoy playing offline SFIV felt perfect. SFV whilst a great game was much harder for bad players (like myself) SFII, Alpha series and 3 are all classics and I regularly go back to them

Would love to see the cel shaded 2D SF.

I will add too, for people who are really into the 2D fighters, you really need to get yourself a MiSTer FPGA system as it has pixel perfect NeoGeo, CPS and CPS2 cores available which render the games at 1440p.

Nice! My mister is on the way.

I have Marvel Origins and MVC2 on the 360 (and the inferior PS2 version) but the X-Men games I've mostly played on a MAME Cab as I never bit the bullet on buying the near arcade perfect Saturn version and the PS1 version isn't the best, so I can't wait to play them on the Mister.

I believe SF6 is half way through development so there won’t be a break. Plus they have the Capcom Cup, esports etc for SF.

The series is tired tho. 2 mainline games in a row. No alpha, no EX. Whilst I appreciate Ono, I haven’t enjoyed his direction with the SF franchise. SF6 will be interesting if only to see where the series heads without Ono.

I hope they give some…. Personal agency.… back to players with SF6. A super jump, guard crush, juggles on stun. Something. I’m not a fan of the 2 combo routes for characters, here are the combos that are possible for your character ‘style‘ that 5 had. Let me find something out myself with linking attacks, meaties on wake up. Hell, let me perform an action after the KO flash. Modern SF dialled back EVERYTHING.

I probably trust them more to remaster an old game than create a new one.

NO, now that ONO is gone, is when street fighter will improve.

The think is that ono was still there for the majority of sf6 development, so, to get a 100% "ono free" street fighter we will have to wait nearly 10 more years until sf7 comes out...

A cell shaded street fighter 7 with the sf alpha art style (a little simmilar to what gg strive did) but with today technology :messenger_smiling_hearts:

I didn't like SF5 for the most part, the launch was terrible. SFV is old, we're due for a SFVI, but it has to be better; presentation and load times were abysmal. The game got better, but way too late.

Give Street Fighter some much deserved rest, sure, but give Dark Stalkers and Breath of Fire some serious love!!!
Let's see an 8 way run, 3d Darlstalkers with some new fighters and dlc.
Bring BoF to the consoles!!! Like... wow... what's wrong with Capcom??

The series doesn’t need a break but it needs a masssive facelift, they should be taking cues From ArkSys and do something Cell Shaded and anime inspired, imagine Street Fighter Alpha 4 and it looking better then Strive and DBZ

Nah. We long overdue for SF6. SF5 is beyond old now. We needed a sequel to SF5 years ago. I hate the fact fighting games generally take approximately a decade for a genuine sequel.

Instead of making so many season passes for SF6, what if they instead spend that time and effort to give some of their other franchises room to a chance in the spotlight again?

It's mainly about budget and profit. Fighters are in general very niche and reviving any of their old fighters might not see the financial return that they want.

At this point, the only thing you might see are ports of Power Stone and Dark Stalkers with online play.

Alpha would definitly be the more fitting for an anime artstyle. And I do hope they don't take cues from arksys for the animations. SF is supposed to be smooth and readable.

Hear me out, I’m a huge Street Fighter fan as well and I buy SF every time a new release comes out.

But, SFV and SF4 are already both great games and have a ton of characters. What if this generation they DON’T make SF6 just yet and instead give some of their other fighting franchises a chance to shine?

How about a Powerstone 3, or at least a 4K remaster of PS2? How about letting Darkstalkers 3 be their main competitive fighting game this gen instead of more SF? Maybe a new fighting IP entirely (MvC2 had great new Capcom characters like Ruby Heart and Amingo. Instead of making so many season passes for SF6, what if they instead spend that time and effort to give some of their other franchises room to a chance in the spotlight again?

Also, instead of trying to revive the Marvel vs Capcom license and trying to make another game in the series, how about giving that a longer rest and instead giving us Capcom vs SNK 3? You won’t have the same licensing issues down the road and it’s long overdue at this point. Heck, maybe even let Arc System Works be involved somehow so that we can have Guilty Gear Strive graphics? I’d even be ok with Capcom vs Capcom to avoid ALL licensing issues… they have enough characters to do it easily and it could be their main competitive game this gen instead of SF.

What do you guys think, would this be a good time for Capcom to let Street Fighter take a break?

They released one streets fighter game last gen and made it exclusive. I dont think they need to take a break, were ready for a new one and hopefully it will be multiplatform

No i say now hes gone the game could change either for the better or for the worse, consdiering he was involved in games like the first devil may cry etc before moving onto streetfighter, plus it was ono who pushed for streetfighter 4 when capcom wanted to abandon it, even streetfighter v was part financed with sony at the start cause capcom wasnt to sure about it, thats why it ended barebones when it first came out as there wasnt many resources put in to helping make this game, and now apparently Midori Yuasa is in charge of the game and looking at her background it been more mobile stuff, i just hope they keep the overtop outfits and not do a mortal kombat and have all females fully dressed and come with some excuse of thats what clothes they would fight in etc like neversoft did

Other francbises are not popular enough. Other than PowerStone which plays differently and Marvel I don't think it's worth Capcom bringing back other fighters like Rival Schools and Darkstalkers. However they should introduce characters from those less popular series as guest characters for Street Fighter VI.

Plus cause of streetfighter being one of the evo and tournamnet games i dont think there is gonna be a jump into anything different as look at streetfighter, tekken, smash, kof they maybe change the graphics but it still all played the same maybe add a new mechanic etc

They make "ONE" Street Fighter iteration per console generation, and you want them to "gIvE iT a BrEaK"?

Holy shit, what's with this forum and concern trolling everything from game consoles to publishers, studios and now established flagship franchises, for the past month or two?

Capcom really should have tried to release a small next gen fighting game at the start of this gen to capitalize on the next gen hype. They could have created something new so they wouldn't have had to have like 40 or more different fighters in the game. On the Capcom versus Snk I don't necessarily want that, it would be nice though. I was just thinking more of like a celebration of all things Capcom in a fighting game.

Capcom versus Anime sounds fun.

My fighting spirit fizzled out long ago, but a really good Street Fighter VI or especially a new DARKSTALKERS could very well ignite it again. 🔥

Im not a fan of the super cartoony art style. It was cool for SF4 but seems a bit tired now. Really wish tehy would go back to 2D or something but not sure that will happen.

I think we are never going back to sprites since the whole alternative costumes business is just not feasible with sprites.

I wished they go for a new Vs first.

And for SF6 they could also go with "special crossovers fighters" like any other fighting game nowadays. It's way better than the horrible new fighters they've been creating.

Uh what horrible fighters? SF5 was pretty bad at lauch prolly because they pushed it too early because of their esport endeavours but it ended a very fine SF game. MvCI looks bad but was praised for its gameplay. SFxT was a fantastic fighting game hampered by terrible business decisions (gems, on disc DLC). And SF4 was overall pretty good...

He means characters, or in other words, capcom shouldn't create new characters, just stick with the old 30 year old cast forever.

Ohhh my bad. But then again, SF5 had some fantastic newcomers with interesting/unique gameplay (e.g. menat, zeku, fang). Granted it's been hit and miss overall but I like the fact that they are trying to balance the old cast (re-imagining some in a big way, like Dhalsim) and newcomers.
