It's a full on remake of a cult classic that created this niche genre. I think given the install base those are fantastic numbers, but let's not downplay the significance of the original Demon's Souls in order to make the remake look more successful shall we?

I'm not downplaying anything....what the hell are you on?

This is such a weird studio, and I never got the hype. I mean, have they ever actually made something? Seems all they have done so far is stand on the shoulders of giants.

I'm interested in seeing what original stuff they can put together, but as far as I'm concerned they're untried and untested until they cook uo something bh themselves.

Phil, Imma let you finish but Bluepoint is the greatest game studio acquisition of all time.

Surprised they didn't just admit it when they accidentally leaked the acquisition with Nixxes months ago.

I don't really want them to make original content. They got their renown as an expert remaster/remake studio, why change what you're known for? They filled an interesting niche and now they are potentially just another studio.

They're kind of an unusual studio. I believe it's ex-Retro staffers that worked with Nintendo closely. Then started their own thing doing very technically proficient remasters at a consistently high level. Then built up to a remake, expanding the original art that they contributed. Then expanded to a bigger remake, with more original takes on the art and music. Now moving into an original game.

They're hyped because everything they've ever done is good. We haven't seen actual game designers there though, but mostly just skilled technicians. This is their chance to design something themselves. We know it'll be solid in terms of tech. Just need to see if they can make a cool original concept as well. That aspect of them is untested. But why not get a little excited to see what they can do? It's all been pretty great so far.

Well done Hasan, you must be so proud of what you've achieved!!!

Seriously though, it'll be really exciting to see what they're able to come up with next. Although they mention something new I really wouldn't be too surprised to see the studio expand somewhat and learn that they're also working on one of their remakes. It's a difficult thing to do and any changes will always split people as to whether they should have made those changes or not but I've been very happy with their releases so far.
Can I order one Last Guardian PS5 patch and a large bowl of fixed Bloodborne please? That would be lovely, thanks.

Sony is buying up third party studios to make ports and remakes. Nixxes for PC ports, Bluepoint for remakes. Each of these studios specializes in this.

As talented as they are, Bluepoint basically is the video game developer version of a cover band. Hopefully they get a chance to create something original now.

I know everyone here is sick of console warring, but these acquistions wouldn't have happened if MS didnt buy Bethesda. After spending an entire generation closing down 4 studios, and buying just one new studio in Insomniac, Sony has bought 4 studios (housemarque, Nixxes, Firesprite and BP) in a matter of months.

Competition is good. I'd argue that MS doesn't go out and acquire Playground Games, Ninja Theory and Obsidian if Sony first party wasnt so goddamn successful last gen. They were pretty much forced to respond, and I feel Sony was forced to act as well.

We don't need all the big companies buying up all the smaller studios, but there is no denying that healthy competition between two industry giants is good for the gaming industry as whole. Studios like BP, Housemarque, Ninja Theory and Obsidian struggle to get big money from third party devs and thats exactly where first party support is needed.

Keep the pressure up on your favorite company. Dont let them get complacent and good things will follow. Taking pot shots at their competition is fun, but criticism of your favorite company can be quite productive.

Competition is good, consolidation not so much. And consolidation is the proposition MS and the big sharks have brought to the table.

If Sony doesn't buy their trusted partners it would be a problem.

Good get.
I wonder what sonys goal is regarding there first party?
I guess there main goal is to remain very competitive with there first party, which means matching or exceeding xboxs first party output, a goal which is just unrealistic considering how vast Microsoft is compared to sony.

I tend to not really get excited until I know I have a reason to, heh.

I'm not deying they're doing good work, but I think you kinda nailed it. They're technicians. That we know. If they're artists, who the hell knows? The things they've done were already great to begin with, so it's a bit hard to destroy. Although they came really close with Colossus and the different mood and Wander's face.

I would hazard a guess the leak was for a deal that seemed a sure thing to Sony, but wasn't actually finalized. This isn't really the kind of thing you sit on to announce, nothing is gained and nobody cared, the studio has been a defacto second party for a while. Seems likely there was either a bidding war going on behind the scenes, or Bluepoint was negotiating some demands before they would agree to sign the paper.

Its funny how jim ryan and to a lesser extent herman have taken subtle digs at Microsofts aquisitions.

They are doing this because they are threatened, trying to make some very subtle digs at Microsoft and make themselves look like there different.

I mean any company with some sense is going to aquire devs which make good games and are easy to get along with.
Ryan and hulst are not doing anything different, Microsoft aquire devs they also have good relations with.

Also very curious of what they can come up with their own.
They got the talent, and experience of remaking a lot of master pieces - so hoping something good!

Worst kept secret lol!

Seriously though excellent addition for Sony and i think Blue Point has everything to become one of Sony's top-tier studios especially now that they will collaborate more closely with the other high profile Sony studios.

It's not unrealistic at all. They've been doing it for years and still continue to do so.

But i believe their output is going to exceed Sony's soon enough. It's a necessity for gamepass to work

Good relations? Sure. That's kind of obvious. No one will buy a company they have bad relations with.

But relations based on exclusively working with them for years? Not at all.
To be fair, they worked pretty close with Playground and Undead Labs before acquiring them. But yeah, some of the others acquisitons have been like they were just looking who was available to buy.
