Pokemon Legends: Arceus will not be fully open world

"In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Jubilife Village will serve as the base for surveying missions. After receiving an assignment or a request and preparing for their next excursion, players will set out from the village to study one of the various open areas of the Hisui region.

"After they finish the survey work, players will need to return once more to prepare for their next task. We look forward to sharing more information about exploring the Hisui region soon."

Start in hub, get sent to big area, return to hub, repeat

i'm fucking done with Pokemon games. it's beyond a joke now. i mean, good on them, i guess, for trying something kinda new? but holy shit Pokemon is one of the biggest and best selling games of all time and Gamefreak keep getting away with half assing it and doing the bare minimum. good on them i guess they're all laughing checking their bank balance but show some passion/respect.

the games peaked 15-20 years ago. some of the more recent games have done some cool things but it's not enough and didn't work out. they are getting by with doing remakes and spewing out unspired pokemon and making slight changes with each new gen. the whole series needs a reboot now. again, i know the game still sell well but surely Nintendo must be concerned? i'd be pressuring the PKMN company to kick GF's ass or give the games to a new developer.

Seems like a half step to test the waters of open world and whether their fanbase vibes with it or not. Not everyone has the Balls and Chains to just leap off of the Great Plateau of linear design with no sail cloth.

We already had this with sword and shield.

The game looks amazing.
Not sure what people are complaining at.
Many were expecting it to be an open world game and people just accepted it since it's going to be the first open world game by GameFreak despite being incredibly bland and ugly world in both artistic and technical standpoints, but it turns out Pokemon Legends is not even an open world game and the graphics is still ugly.
Comparison with Nintendo upcoming open world game.

That's fine on my end. Doesn't really matter if it was open world or multiple open areas since the structure of the game is the same.

Exactly. There really is no excuse when Zelda looks great and it's actually open world.

If you wanted an open world pokemon game you're probably the same person who wanted the series to transition to 3D further damaging the IP in the first place. 🥲

I don't know, in the newest trailer it looks as good as BotW overall. What is the source of that screen capture?

From that trailer;

I’m buying the game, and it’s not the ugliest game I’ve ever seen, but it’s leagues below BotW, Mario Odyssey, Astral Chain and the Switch’s other graphically pleasing games.

How is it that pokemon is one of the biggest franchises in the world and the company that makes their games are 20 steps behind the rest of the industry? Id love to see a competent developer make a mainline pokemon game

So more like monster hunter then?
Seems to be,

Also anyone claiming laziness this isn't laziness , this is clearly someone sick of working on the same thing since forever knowing they will never escape it.
That town hero is aesthetically similar but looks noticeably better

I personally not really in to Pokemon, I'm much more of SMT guy but why does the game have to "open world"?

Is because they're marketing as a BOTW Pokemon game. If you see the trailers, really looks like you can explore everything.

There is lot of exploring in Xenoblade 1&2 and even with DQXI without being open world.

Even upcoming SMT5 is not open world, but it has same over world as Nocturne.

Indeed, but as the article mention, will be more limited than that.

If you ask me, no complain, but they need to be more open about that. Making PR as the game is some sort of Open World is not right. Or at least leave some other dev team from Nintendo to do it. Nintendo have others team miles ahead Game Freak.

I think Gamefreak are just not good at making open field environments, even Nintendo had to bring Monolith Soft to help them with BOTW.

No Shit news. We're talking about GF here, even doing regular textures is a difficult task for them. They are ages behind, thanks to being stagnated and using "portable" as an excuse. It still baffles me of how much low quality the trees in this game are, feels like its aways on low textures field of view mode.

Ah...good times when people stupidly believe they would remade all pokemon models.

Pokemon peaked with Red and Blue.

Nintendo doesn't care as long as the money pours in. Though game freak did move into Nintendo's Kyoto offices relatively recently so maybe the future will be better.

I disagree. It peaked with Gold and Silver. A big highlight for me was clearing Johto region and being told that you can explore all of Kanto as well. Was so hype. And legendary Pokemon required status and absurdly low catch rates with Ultra Balls.

Gamefreak has just been success coasting for years and it really shows.

I mean that's also Nintendo's trade mark with hardware in general

GameFreak are stuck in this ridiculous situation where they are completely incapable of developing a decent modern game, but at the same time the Pokemon branding makes their games incapable of failing, no matter how bad they objectively get. It's like a mythological curse, only in this instance it's not magic perpetuating the curse, but the millions of people who keep paying $60 for garbage that, if it weren't for the name "Pokemon", wouldn't fly from a 2-people team trying to sell it on Steam for $15.
