Far Cry 6 - Official Review Thread

Might need to stop sniffing glue
I can't believe you heal but by taking a puff on a cigar and putting it out on your arm. This game is so over the top and I mean that in a good way. That being said it needs third person driving and flying.
I agree.. I still don’t get why co-op play can’t give both players a completed objective. Annoying AF. My buddy and I take turns and have fun causing destruction, so, for now we deal with it, but doing everything twice just plain sucks.

Fuck me I have been saying this since the 3rd game

So finished the Madrugada storyline and realized this game has the typical Ubi huge world flaw that Valhalla did, the progession systems top out well before the game is over. Im only maybe 1/4 through the main story but already I have guns for any occasion, gear that suits my playstyle, and the two best camp upgrades maxed out. And rank 9 already. So going forward a lot of collectibles, materials like gas, meds, metals are totally meaningless. Even new guns are just cosmetic changes since I can already murder with ruthless efficiency. Of course Im still playing because the game world is fun to explore, the gunplay is satisfying, and I actually like the story and characters, its just a shame the progression systems peter out so quickly.

I never liked any of the previous entries except the first one ( which I finished). They all bored me to death. This one however is so chill to play without constantly overwhelming the player with map clutter and enemy encounters. I might even finish it. Well done, Ubisoft.

I think we all have it on PC but some people will say "no, not me check your PC you noob" just because they don't notice it, but it's here that's for sure because that's how the game is working on PC.
And I think the real responsible is Denuvo, operating a check every time an object is picked, the game save etc... coupled with a bad CPU optimization.
I see, you suspect it's the same problem that Village had?

The first person view for driving isn't the problem. Some of the vehicles just handle horribly, but some are fine.

The hovercraft handles like garbage. I know they generally have weird handling, but it's really bad (on land).

Horses handle amazingly well.

Driving vehicles give me a headache. The FOV is so zoomed.
It's fine if you stick to the roads but driving through the bushy areas its fucking torture which is why I avoid it altogether. Will rather jump on a horse.

Hovercraft is complete and utter shit. I though there was something wrong with the settings of my keyboard so I checked some settings in the menu. Never use the hovercraft anymore.

Playing on ultra but it feels like it looks graphically worse than far cry 5?
I was playing the game on my 1440p monitor all this time and it looks good. Yesterday I connected my PC tower to my 4K TV and holy shit does it look better running in 4K with everything set to Ultra and FXR whatever set to the highest quality setting.

I had to stop a few times to take screenshots I was so impressed by how much better this game looks in native 4K.

Finally completed it yesterday. The game is loooong and there is a ton of content. IMO, this is the best FC game in the entire series. I loved the story and it worked so much better with 3rd person cutscenes. The voice actor of female Dani deserves an award. She has an amazing voice and that also played well into the entire experience. This is definitely yet another FC game which doesn't do anything too different but if you have never played an FC game before or curious to try it, I would suggest start with this one. Great game and I had a blast playing through the campaign.

I was playing on my ultrawide ips monitor which doesnt have a good contrast, might hook up my pc now to my lg oled to see the difference

I flipped a coin between PS5 and Series X versions and I chose Series X. I hope I made the right choice.
They are both extremely similar and the difference will be negligible. If I was deciding I would choose PS5 for the haptics and triggers, but that's a minor thing for some.

Yeah the image quality is definitely better on my TV than my monitor. Make sure you set your game FXR setting to highest quality possible.
I have RTX3080 and my frames dropped to 15fps with FXR turned off and everything set to Ultra at native 4K.
Still can't believe this game makes an RTX3080 run like complete shit at native 4k without any DLSS like features turned on.

I try to drive and I just crash all over the place. Even Cyberpunk had third person driving because it just better in a game.
Dude, don't go full throttle at all times, press that trigger gently to bend curves!

I can't get over how fucking blurry the game is (on ps5). It's literally hard to see stuff. I'm not making this up there is something wrong with the AA or DrS in this game.

15 hours in now and FC6 has clearly grown to become my favorite Far Cry in the series. ..At least if I disregard some of the AI glitches, and the fact that this is an AMD sponsored title..

Dude is banned, but this is stupid. Sanctions are imposed by other countries. They do not require communism. Most countries with dictators that commit human rights violations, or start nuclear weapons programs get some kind of sanctions. It's really sad how ignorant people are with definitions of terms and knowledge of how the world works.

Communist leaders are totalitarian dictators by default. I was born and grew up in a country destroyed by communist so don't tell me about not knowing how the world works, "dude".

I would love to discuss the topic further but politics is not allowed on this forum and I don't want to get banned again.

Back to the topic. I finished the game after 30 hours. My second favourite Far Cry game after Far Cry 2 despite all the bullshit and cringe story / characters.

My favourite feature was Dani singing along to songs on the radio.

I was in Cuba in 2016 so a lot of places in the game felt extremely familiar. Maybe that's why I liked it so much. Here's some pictures from that trip:

Is it me or does this game feel like Just Cause?
It does in many ways because of the setting, and the fact that you are taking over areas controlled by a dictator and his military. The vehicle collecting is largely the same too. Taking them back to designated areas. So I agree, it really does feel like a first person Just Cause in multiple ways.

Playing on PS5 and I have no idea what you are talking about, looks fine? Did you buy physical and not install the HD texture pack?
No, there’s something up. could be the graphics only look good with good HDR..? Objects aren’t distinct, I think the outlines for enemies and materials are a concession to whatever the issue is. It’s weird. And there’s good draw distance but the resolution on the horizon is like 480p, it looks like paint on a canvas.

I don’t mind the level system being shifted to guns but taking away the hunting for ammo pouch loop was a bad idea. And wish there were one major base to level up like the one in New Dawn but I get why that doesn’t fit the vibe.

Came across a "top surgery" conversation last night, decided that was a good time to call it a night.

I have noticed this also.

I think the flashing for objects is to long between pulses. As half the time am just looking for the (X) to appear to pick up. And half the time it doesn’t show until your literally on top of the item.

Draw distance is hit or miss, the red crabs for example appear super close to the camera like you see them draw in 🤷‍♂️ But then you can run about and they don’t despawn or get redrawn when you approach them again.

As for the distant objects, buildings, trees eg… all look shit and super low rez, like I zoomed in with the phone camera (in game) and it’s almost PS1 graphics 😂 I assumed with these new systems it would look nicer far out. But it’s noticeable without zooming in.

Only other graphical issue I have come across is random low Rez textures. Tree trunks mostly, but the odd ground texture/wet effect.

edit: am on XSX

anyone know when I get my DLC stuff? I bought the ultimate edition and still don’t have the guns or cars 🤷‍♂️

The story and characters in this game are outright trash besides Castillo. But the rest of the game is so good just like 3-5 that it’s simply a joy to play and mess around in. What a downgrade with the amigos though, in 5 it was excellent having humans alongside you and animals who were actually useful, in this they’re all so pointless.

If anyone beside me experience the same autosave stuttering on item pickup and entering a new location that plagued Far Cry 5 please let Ubi know. Maybe we can get them to change (if possible) how the save system works in this game.

Far Cry 6 1/2 second stutter | Ubisoft Forums

Here is a short video i recorded:

Far Cry 6 auto save stuttering - YouTube

Notice the stutter every time i pick something up and the save symbol on the top right of the screen.

Is this issue only on PC or do the consoles have the same problem?

It's my only complaint with the PC version tbh. And it gets worse the longer you play as the save file is just getting bigger and bigger.

I am not experiencing stutter on Xbox SX. Occasional screen tearing, but otherwise a very stable experience.

Did they do it on purpose? To have longer horizons or maintain 60fps? I downloaded the non-texture pack version first and I can’t see much difference. Is It an effect of the mediocre lighting? The dawn/dusk? Really disappointing - I’d rather have sharper consistent graphics even if they’re a notch down overall.

They should’ve kept the hunting tied to ammo “pouch” improvements - do some character who’s bad at hunting but obsessed with trophies who gives you “supremo tech” to carry more of everything; link fishing to the cooking recipes and end the fishing progressions with permanent perks. And they should’ve put In one centralized main base midgame (like the hideout in a waterfall cave system) and given you way more base building upgrade paths. And the new tone doesn’t quite work - they’ve dumped a lot of the Looney Tunes over the top side characters but the “mature” tone is bland. Giancarlo Esposito is great but he doesn’t have the same mad man vibe so far, it’s played too straight, intimidating. And Far Cry 5 had better “local color”, you’d find those weird doomsday bunkers everywhere.

I’m not a big online gamer, but at some point I’m going to have to take over an FND base with a co-op partner. Does anybody know if it is easy enough to set up a specific task in co-op, or do you just need to go with the flow, so to speak?

Get the Desert Eagle pistol. Max it out for damage and attach the longest scope possible and you have yourself a pocket pistol/sniper rifle hybrid that does crazy damage to any NPC's. It's pretty much replaced my maxxed out White Lotus sniper rifle.

The only advantage the sniper rifle has over the desert eagle is the slightly longer x10 scope.

Not quite sure I 100% know that I understood the question… but, when I co op play with my friends, we choose to hop in party chat to decide who’s session will be joined first since objectives do not save for both. Next, we highlight whatever on the map and go for it together.
