Glad I own a copy of this, has to be one of the strangest ports of all time. Never played it much but someday I'll bunker down and do a let's play of it.

in survival mode there is a psycho in each zone of the game, which is not ideal for someone who just wants to run around and kill zombies. so playing 72 hour mode, while ignoring the story, is the best way for them to do that
Infinity Mode's psychos are still less of a time sink then cases that expire and end the game for all intents and purposes.
Along with plenty other franchises, Dead Rising has been for me something like "this looks cool, maybe I'll try it one day".

Is this game fun? Is it repetitive? Some people swear by it. I'm still interested in it. Also, why does Dead Space 1 have ... 1-2 expansions that seems to be the same game but with a different protagonist?
The timer in Dead Rising is more of a way to change how the world interacts with the player rather than a restriction. If you enjoy the idea of a 3D brawler where you can pick up and use anything in sight, then give it a try.

I do not know anything about Dead Space, but Dead Rising 2 has Case Zero and Case West DLC to give the game a prologue and epilogue, respectively. Dead Rising 2: Off the Record that reimagines the story of that game with Frank West as the protagonist.
What really made the games what they were was stripped away with each entry. Those first two games are almost like roguelikes, replaying the game with new knowledge and skills until you become competent enough to make it to the end, and with the time management aspect you had to make a lot of tough calls but could see something new in each playthrough.

In 3 the timer is a nonfactor and 4 it's not even a mechanic, those games have no replayability as there's nothing stopping you from seeing basically all there is to see on the first go.
Roguelikes randomize the environment and enemy types. In contrast, the world of Dead Rising is predetermined and filled with respawning elements. The timer's function is to throw a monkey wrench into the equation every so often. It is not particularly demanding unless you try to do all the things that take place without any warning.

The Nightmare Mode in Dead Rising 3 makes saving all the survivors and completing the story missions a lot harder than either of the first two games. The world is also filled to the brim with varied locations to explore and hundreds of optional things to collect. I certainly have not seen every nook and cranny of the game and I have played through it dozens of times. The endings are just as interesting in DR3 as they are in DR1. If anything, without DLC it is DR2 that is the outlier.
I much prefer the denser world of the 2 malls to the open world of 3. There’s just too much area with a bunch of collectibles and not a lot of interesting places.

Also the survivors sending you on fetch quests is more than mildly annoying. I know there were a couple like that in the first 2 games, but it feels like everyone wants you to do something before they will join now.
I am the exact opposite as the various casinos in DR2 blur together for me, but in DR3 I can remember all the psycho locations and other places like the theater, hotel, graveyard, Shaolin temple, museum, metro, shopping strip, and various mansions.

The only thing I do not like is that you come across survivors that run off on their own after you dispatch the mob of zombies that has surrounded them. I enjoy playing shepherd to all the survivors in DR1 and DR2. The survivors in DR3 are normally more demanding, but the quests they give are intended to establish their identity as you can have saved survivors tag along on your adventures in DR3.

P.S. Dead Rising: Chop Until You Drop is a travesty. There are loading screens for various doors in the security hub area with survivors and the normally transparent windows are covered up. Every time you want to save a survivor you are required to get the mission from Otis in the security hub instead of finding them in the world. The outdoor area is greatly condensed and now filled with obnoxious undead birds and poodles. Not to mention the greatly reduced zombie count that makes it so that you can completely navigate around them all the time.

Now that I’ve played a bit deeper into it again, I’m starting to come around to it.

I think because I haven’t played it in so long and directly after 2 it just feels like a giant departure from the first 2. I do agree that not having to get the survivors to the safe house is a bit disappointing and one of my favorite aspects of the earlier games.

I only played 1 & 3 and enjoyed them both. Also own 4 for Xbox but yet to play. I need to play 1 again sometime.

I remember figuring out the most op melee weapon on 3 by combining a rake and a car battery , I cleared out hundreds of zombies easily . It has 2 attacks and its the melee style one , not the electric attack.

I would suggest 72 hour mode for people who just want to fuck around kill zombies. A psycho being in every zone makes the player have to kill them first, before they can start fucking around and doing whatever they want. Someone who just wants to have the freedom to mess around wouldn’t want to have to kill a psycho first.

So 72 hour mode is a better option for that particular kind of player.

Now for you and I, and other fans of the game who have played and can take out a psycho easily, then yeah I’d just turn on survival mode.

Infinity mode isn’t unlocked until after you beat 72 hour mode, so that’s out of the question for what I was originally saying.

Fair point about the roguelike comment, but agree to disagree about the rest. I played through 3 recently on Nightmare mode and that's a hard disagree that it's harder than the other games. I actually do like 3 though, I think 4 is the only one mainline entry that is actually bad, but 3 kinda sowed the seeds of what would eventually become 4.

I haven't seen every nook and cranny of 3 either but the environment is so much less interesting to me I do not particularly care. They made the map big just for the sake of it, the vehicle stuff is admittedly very cool but it came at the cost of the distinctive areas of the first two games. Every part of the mall/casino had its own flair and was memorable, the districts in 3 all look like wide roads with brown buildings. Also the camera is way too zoomed in for some reason, but that's a minor complaint.

If the series was still going and in the vein of 3 I'd still be happy, even though I see it as a step down. If another attempt is anything like 4 then the series is better off dead.

I think the main thing in a Dead Rising game is that the world is designed well enough to get from one end to the other in five minutes or less. It is kind of an issue in DR2 without the use of mixed speed drinks. The placement of the vehicles in DR3 make it possible.

I like the areas of DR2 well enough, but I think they are mostly reskins unlike the areas in DR1 and DR3 which are much more distinct. Every block in DR3 is actually slightly different even though many use similar textures for buildings and roads.

I do think that limiting the scope to a small island or cruise ship with more detail would be the way to go should the franchise get new life.

You are indeed correct. Beating Overtime Mode is a prerequisite to unlocking Infinity Mode and the psychos in Dead Rising do take a little bit of finesse.

Just finished DR3, did all the side missions that were available, collected a bunch of stuff, killed 30,000 zombies and got the C ending.

Going to go back to it but not straight away. Are the untold stories worth doing?

Either I do the untold stories now, or I go back to Case West and OTR and then do the untold stories after I go back to 3.

The Untold Stories are fun imo, but you might want to go to Case West and OTR for now just to change the scenery for a bit.

Also, I don't know if you're planning to or already played DR4, but the last Untold Story in DR3 is connected to that game. People hate on DR4, but I think it's really fun.

I don’t own DR 4, I’m hoping it goes on sale this month for Shocktober, and I will definitely snag it up if it does.

I watched Dawn of the Dead today and it got me thinking about this game.

I love it, it's a fantastic game with lots of fun factor but I really wish the time limit didn't exist. I love the Mall setting and killing zombines in various whacky ways and the psychopaths are great.

The feeling of needing to rush cases sadly always took me out of it and it felt like you got punished for goofing off and having fun.

I had totally forgotten about that cut scene, but I've definitely seen it before.
Not sure from the E3 promo or just having left the game idle at the start screen. Maybe both.

The game is generally shit on (and probably rightly so) but I actually enjoyed it besides the loading times and terrible (even by Wii standards) graphics.

Kagey K Kagey K What does that asshole wannabee photographer want me to do?

Close up of him decking zombies or what?
You need to be zoomed in on him and catch him when he poses. Needs to be more than 800 pp.

It's a bit tricky. Just make sure to zoom, it's the key.

EDIT: The pose is the hand thing after he snaps the pic.

Thanks mate!

The tricky part is I don't know what the fuck to do. Restarted twice because i thought I missed his objective. Shit is obtuse af.

Fair enough I'll position myself as such I get maximum zoom when he randomly dropkicks some poor soul lol.

Thanks again, your thread made me play this gem again since my 360 days.

Probably going to keep a guide on hand for now

That guy is very confusing. The 1st pic in the coffee shop is when he's crouched down taking a photo.

The second one is after he takes a photo and does the hand thing.

Then you have to get a pic over a certain amount of pp in each of the categories before you run into him again.

Horror, Drama and Erotic. The erotic one is toughest to get. Try to find a zombie in lingerie showing cleavage for it.

Isn't it just awesome having an Erotica category.. Bless Japan
