Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | OT | Borne of Souls

Kamina

Golden Boy
I was enjoying this game until giving up on it shortly after release and now again. I'm completely stuck on Genichiro on top of the castle. I killed all the bosses (lady butterfly, horse etc) and mini-bosses possible so I can't really "level up" anymore and I have to get past him to continue the game.

I heard the skill shadow rush helps against him but I would need to farm souls for 10+ hours before I get enough skill points to get it. I watched all the strategies videos, tried to deflect as many attacks as I could but he always gets me, I tried mikiri counter several times, never worked, not even once.

I just want it to be done. Is there a way to cheat in Xbox? I would like to get someone else save or something.
I bet this is how you feel right now, correct?
Dont worry, we all went though that.

I almost beat the bastard. That damn fire owl attack is the only thing that is getting me right now. I gotta learn the best way to dodge it so I can properly mikiri counter.

FINALLY. I just jumped to the side every time he did that fire owl attack and was able to mikiri counter. I ran out heals and even had to use up my last sweet rice ball but I beat the bastard.

Corrupted Monk is down. Every optional person apart from the Beheaded dudes (who I cant seem to do without Devine Confetti, which is like gold dust).

Am I near the end? Hammered it this last week lol.

Found a really good XP farm spot. It works out 4000xp per 60 seconds.

You'll need the Ceremonial Tanto and Health Gourd.

Go to the Fountainhead Palace travel point. Use the knife on your self and heal. Go into room behind, take out about 15 electricity wolves and one fish dude. Keep using your 5 "free" spirit emblems (from knifeing yourself) with the Shuriken prosthetic to take out 5 wolves at a time, heal and repeat.

There's an even better spot coming up in the final section but yah that's an excellent farming location.

I died a lot on the final boss but ultimately I beat him without tools and items. I knew his entire moveset at that point. Awesome fight.

Two Apes!? No problem 😜

Actually found it easier than the single Ape. I knew his moves so well by this point!

I dunno man, it was the most frustrating fight in my run but it was on me. I kept on staggering the headless one and the other will always do programmed leap attack. You just need to go ham on that one with fire first.

I didn't bother with the normal ape at all just avoided his attacks and ran away when I wasn't shielded by the headless one. Think so far either the first ape has been the hardest or possibly lady butterfly but that was more because I was new to the game and a bit early.

Genichiro is one of the harder bosses in the game. Don’t give up! If you made it this far you will do well. If you beat the other Souls you can def do this. But he’s tough!

Mostly you need to nail the lightning parry. When he gets in the air and starts to summon lightning, jump straight up, so that when he attacks you are still in the air. Throw that lightning back for massive parry damage.

He will fall before my blade, just as all those that dared to challenge me have in previous games 😬🔥.

I put about two blocks of 5 hours into the final boss and have got to the Spear stage a good couple of times. Anyways it's kind of taken the fun out of the game beating the same first bosses over and over again. When it seems like work its not really for me. I do think the game could do with been a bit easier (not easy though)

That been said the game as a whole I have really enjoyed. I've put 72 hours into it and loved the vast majority. I'm glad I've seen 95% of what the game has to offer. I'm sure I'll see the vast majority of you in the Demon Souls thread next month! 😁

The last boss in Sekiro is genuinely the only one I will never, ever play again in a Soulsborne game. It was just a fucking awful experience. I’ve had no desire to go back to Sekiro, even though I loved it on the first playthrough, and maybe that has something to do with it. Also, it misses some elements of the Soulsborne games that I really love. I think It was a one and done for me.

That fight felt so weirdly unbalanced to me. First two stages were a nightmare, but lightning stage I first timed. Much easier.

It would be so much better with a check point after the first stage or after the second one IMO.

Like I know I might get to the 4th stage but how many times would I get to that stage and die because I'd need time to learn the moves he will use etc. Becomes more like work than fun. That been said Trophy achievement is at 25%.

I think they lost slightly the balance of fun to challenge with this boss (mainly because of the 4 vastly different stages).

I would say that boss works same way as Matador did in Nocturne, the first time you face him it can be very difficult but his really not all that hard once you get how the combat works.

Yep. One time I would have been very happy for some classic Souls jolly cooperation. I would have beat him a lot sooner... and enjoyed the experience while doing it, instead of slogging through countless deaths, and feeling no sense of victory when I finally did it - just relief. I would probably have come back again for a second playthrough if the first had ended better.

People may argue, but Sekiro suffers for having no multiplayer. It’s one of the Souls games most fun features, for both coop and invasion.

I don't know why so many people have issue with him but I personally LOOOOOVE that boss fight, its one of my favourite final boss in any game.

Eh, it’s a From game. We all have bosses we love that others hate. I wish you could have co-oped it with me to show me the fun way to do it 🤣

I think if you have found the game fairly easy and you hit that boss it's a fun challenge. If you've struggled through it's a road block.

I probably could beat it if I spent another 20 or so hours but fuck that. Must have tired about 60 times to get to the third phase. It's the repetition of beating the first phases.

That boss basically ultimate test of everything you learned, he literally wields most of the weapons you encountered through out the game. I didn't do anything special in that fight, I just fought him mano a mano and went really aggressive with him.

Sekiro wasn't easy for me but It also wasn't frustrating, for me it give me nice and fun challenge and I was just absolutely in love with combat system. It gave me satisfaction even more than FROM's pervious games.

This is exactly how I did it. I finally got him down lower in the fourth phase than I ever had before with only a sliver of life left myself, so I just went for it and somehow got him purely on muscle reflexes.

the final boss is my favorite fight of any From game. and yes it's very hard.

i first got into From games with Dark Souls, which was a struggle. i moved onto DS2 which was far easier. by the time DS3 came out i was taking out bosses in one attempt. it felt like i had gotten the formula and kind of plateaued. even Bloodborne was similar. but Sekiro, I struggled! and i loved the struggle. i think i might have spent more time fighting the Seven Spears guy by the moonlight tower than all the bosses in DS2. and he's just a mini boss! the final boss took me several days to get, and it brought me back to the Dark Souls 1 difficulty feeling. by the end I was just running up to him and quickly taking out the 1st two phases with no damage. when i finally won, i felt like a fine tuned ninja warrior. it brought back that feel from the first time i killed the Taurus Demon.

It’s cool to take a break. i would recommend instead of doing long hours long sessions just give it a try once a day. set a timer for 30 minutes. if you still want to fight past that, do it. don't think of it as climbing a mountain at once, but a step at a time.

this video has a lot of good strategies for countering his moves.

reading your progress inspired me to jump back in to work toward the Platinum Hostile_18 Hostile_18 ! i need to finish the two easier endings, one of which provides the last few unbeaten bosses. I also need to finish the skill tree, then I have it.

I got through Lady Butterfly and Robertooooo without dying, and got all the way to the top of Senpou temple (for the waypoint shrine). I think the hardest part of the game right now is grinding for skill points so that I can finish the skill tree (one of the trophies). My attack is 33 which is pretty overpowered even though I'm on NG++.

This is top-tier advice. It's how I've "gotten gud" on quite a few games.

I must admit a few days away had inspired me to have "one more go" today 😂.

Looks like it's getting a patch to be 60fps on PS5 as well. I wonder of they will keep the reconstructed 4k or go full native like the Xbox X version.

Taking regular breaks was crucial to me beating this game.

On release I was super into Sekiro, and wasn't overwhelmed.

What started to happen is a dislike for the ninja tools system and constantly needing to farm upon deaths, yet never getting much compared to the ease of farming souls in other titles.

After a while it just becomes this big slog of a game. Couple that with I had no clue where to go, and I uninstalled.

Since then I have come back a few times to try to advance, not knowing where to go, and always getting flustered with needing to farm.

In this past year or so I started dissecting games, trying speed running, watching speed runs and challenge runs etc of other games and I had this on the mind again. With completing Returnal I thought maybe I got this, this time

Low and behold I am now much farther and up to the extra Hirata Estate, and I have the divine dragon fight incoming.

I refuse to subject myself to 20 hours on a final boss like the guy above, but I will at least get to the fight and experience it. I did the two apes at once fight on my third try so there's hope.

I feel you. Overall I didn't like the game and this point is one of the main reasons !
I was hoping they patch the game that the Emblems are refilling on death to avoid the farming. Ninja tools are the thing that make the combat interesting and diverse (deflecting is OP and quickly boring). I used them extensively till my first boss (Lady Butterfly) then I after some deaths to her, I had to farm to use them and ended up using the Prosthetics very sparely for the rest of the game to avoid farming...

I sometimes consider doing another run to appreciate the game more but then I think about the emblems and my desire just vanished. I still hope they change it (maybe they have and I am not aware of it ?).

Completed the game the other day.

Hard to come away with proper thoughts. A huge part of me wants to say this is Froms greatest work but the difficulty prevented many from completing the game.

I think many like it but let it go once they hit their first major wall boss fight.

For me Owl Father and the final boss were a tie in terms of bull shit.

I saved a lot of items knowing the final boss would wreck my ass so I could make it easier. That made the second Owl fight harder due to no items.

Also, farming in this game is its one major glaring flaw. Even with balloons, max money skills, and a good route to farm the income is trash. Exp is even worse and IMO you need to do it at some point to get skills and get some attack power boosts. This doesn't make the game in anyway difficult, just tedious. Especially since all other From titles allow for good farming of income.

Lastly, I had no clue what the bell did when I rung it. After many hours of dying to Owl father with only him and the final boss left I realized through Google what it did. I turned it off and had much more success with Owl consistently after

Proud I beat most of the game on hard. Tempted to do another run with bell and kuro charm given on NG plus for that very hard experience.... but I need a break. This game is amazing but hurts you.

I got the Return Ending the first time, this time I went for the Purification Ending. I have to say, even if Return had the sequel hook, Purification is my personal canon because that's the kind of story conclusion I like and Wolf's final line is touching.

Still an amazing journey even the 2nd go around and easily Miyazaki's best work for me. Different knowledge from the origin of the land this time that you got with Return, which is fascinating. The final boss is still one of my favourite fights and I'll never get tired of it, completely fair and tests your knowledge up to this point. It didn't take me long last time and was shorter this time around, but man it's just a majestic fight and never gets old.

Replaying this makes me want Sekiro 2 more than Elden Ring.

After a few months of break from the game I'm feeling pretty good playing this game!

Just finished the Folding Screen Monkeys with first try. I had to look for a guide how to kill the green monkey (I know, I suck).

I quit playing because of Sunken Valley, but this time I'll tame the beast!

If you can beat Genichiro, you can beat the game, keep ploughing away. The last boss is harder but Genichiro is the brick wall in the middle of that game that proves you can beat the rest.

I beat him before my break. I'm suprised how little rusty my playing is.
Tomorrow I'll get to the Sunken Valley and kill the gunmen..

Guardian Ape Vanquished!

Once again such a great From boss battle!!

Haha I started my victory celebration too early. I had my controller on the table and I was standing and raising my arms when the fucker woke up and grabbed his head 😅
