[IGNxGamer] Forza Horizon 5: Performance Preview

This looking leaps and bounds ahead of anything else on a last gen engine is pretty remarkable, I haven't even seen any mention of Tier 2 VRS so there is a huge amount of performance left on the table.
Turn 10 will use all of it on a closed circuit racer so I'm expecting a huge leap even over this.
There's no need for VRS if you can achieve the level of visual quality you want at your target frame budget (16.67 / 33.3ms). VRS makes sense when you're over budget i.e. dropping frames and you need a solution that can save some rendering time with minimal visual impact.

Where are the god tier textures?
That normal doesnt look any better than most, and the parralax actually looks pretty bad....everything else doesnt really make me think god tier.
Look at the wall and floor

I wonder at what resolution they could have had the performance mode a locked 60fps on without changing anything else from the quality option.

I expect Forza Next Gen to have Ray Tracing in game, so the next gen engine should use all the RDNA2 features. If they had used Tier 2 VRS here then they maybe could have had less cutbacks in performance mode or offered the quality mode at 40fps for 120hz sets.

1440p will give a noticeably softer picture.

I went from a 4K monitor to a high-refresh monitor almost the same size. 4K/60 < 1440p/144 unless you're only worried about screenshots.

Isn't there some trick that Insomniac uses to convert 40fps to 120fps?

No they made a change that lets you play 40fps on a 120Hz screen instead of 30.

Some people here think that real life is desaturated and cloudy all the time. When you go to a country like Mexico it is full with saturated colors and bright highlights because of the immense amount of sunbeam. Forza Horizon 4 and 5 nailed the lighting of the country they are based on. Forza Horizon 4 lighting was one of the best last gen and it got the british lighting almost spot on. Forza Horizon 5 takes it even further and gives us a even better lighting model this time of Mexico.
I mean look at this, it looks soo good and soo close to the real thing

FYI, VRS tier 2 doesn't specifically come under "RDNA2 features". It comes under "DX12 Ultimate" or "DX12U features", so that's what everyone should be saying not "RDNA2 features" as Microsoft's VRS tier 2 is available for other IHV's products as well. Turing, Ampere (NVIDIA), Alchemist (Intel).

Why do people continue to come into Forza Horizon 5 threads and insist on comparing an open-world racing game to a linear third-person Souls game?

IKR, sheesh, the relative speed that the environments have to move past the camera in a racing game makes any comparisons to a typical 3rd/1st person games a bit nonsensical. Although comparisons between track racers and open-world racers often come up as well, and those also are apples and oranges for the most part.

He [NXGamer] made one for MS Flight Sim as well, 100% hype, he may have a preference but he can definitely give praise when praise is deserved, like here 👍

I like that he appears to have acknowledged this preference. When people claim to be without bias, I have a very hard time taking them seriously.

Yeah iirc he said on a Twitter discussion that he had a preference. I certainly have it too. I honestly think it’s nearly impossible to be deeply interested in anything at all and not develop a preference. Doesn’t matter if it’s game consoles, cars, guitars, mobile phones, TVs, sound gear, sports teams, etc. If you’re truly interested you’ll like one thing more than another even when it’s not perfectly logical, it’s natural as far I’m concerned. Just don’t foolishly hate everything else and it’ll be fine. Give praise when praise is deserved and we’ll all contribute to make the hobby better. 👍

I am talking about textures, If you look at the rock and floors there are areas where the details that are lackin. Not as High polygon as UE5 demo

You are comparing a shot of the floor directly beneath the character vs a zoomed in shot of a rock a ways away? How can one draw any meaningful conclusion from this? And what does UE5 have to do with your screenshot? Who is talking about UE5?

Horizon maps are always a compressed version of reality. With each game the biomes are representative of the real locations.

Horizon 4 for example includes about half of Edinburgh just about 1:1 including Arthur's Seat

You can do this for sections of each map in the series like Surfer's Paradise in FH3.

That's..Interesting. I'm a big fan of FH and I still thought it was leaning more fantasy map rather than accurate condensed realism. Even more respect to the devs. NICE.

yeah too bad this dynamic 4K60fps open world game doesn't look as good as a linear graphics demo made to run at dynamic 1440p30fps and has almost no dynamic objects in it.

I've seen more Demon's Souls screenshots in Forza topics than in the the official Demon's Soul topic.

Yeah, it is awesome when people start comparing games with totally different environments, themes, art styles, etc.

i doubt you'd find Forza screenshots in a Demon's Souls thread. Pretty annoying that derails happen

There were definitely Flight Simulator screenshots in Ratchet and Clank threads though.
