Games you've beaten in October 2021

Hi fellow gaffers!

This thread is the revival of a classic series from the past.

The idea is self-explanatory: list the games you have beaten in the past month, being October 2021 this time.

Obviously, a few words on the games are more than welcome.

If you feel so, you can try to succeed in the 3 games a month challenge to spice things a bit.

So, what games have you beaten in October 2021 ?

D2r only, all difficulties. Now playing gotg, I want to finish this and play only this one. Hard task with my short attention span, price of getting older :/

Sable is my 2021 game of the year. It may not be game of the year for the vast majority, but I will throw hands as I do consider it the 2021 most chill game of the year. No combat, no fail state, just relaxing exploration. Easy game to get all achievements too if you're into that sort of thing (I did). One of those types of games you didn't realize you needed in your life until you try it. Still does have some odd performance issues but hopefully they'll iron that out soon.

Edit: As said later in the video, intrinsic motivation is key to the experience of Sable. I just hope future GTA games can learn something from this.

Live from NeoGAF, it's Friday Night!
Diablo 2: Resurrected, two times now but i'm stuck on hell difficulty.

The game is pretty straightforward up until the highest difficulty but then you should know what you are doing. I can't remember when i sticked with just one game for that long.

I made it to three last month! Short games as usual but I'm still glad.

Aviary Attorney: I was really into the art style and I love the Ace Attorney series, but playing the game was a but disapointing. The cases are either obvious or hard (because of the time limit system in investigations). The trials are very shorts, without the drama and craziness of Phoenix Wright's series. 5/10

Gunman Clive 2: What a fun little game! Quite an improvement after the first game. Colors are really popping, gameplay has more variations and level design is also better. Really great times on this 3DS game. 8/10

Mortal Kombat 11: I only play the story mode of the Mortal Kombat games since the 9th entry. They are always a lot of stupid fun, with great production value. That is still true here, but the story is less exciting, I did not care about Kronika. I played the switch version because my library has not the Xbox version, and it is enjoyable but technically sub-par, especially in handheld mode. Tldr; still fun and great visuals, story could have been crazier and better. 6/10

Next month I do not think I'll get those 3 end credits, Steamworld Dig is almost done but I started Hollow Knight and it is quite long.

Metroid Dread and Far Cry 6.

I just put together a GBA consolizer and finished Metroid Zero Mission in 3:06 and getting ready to play through Fusion.

I finished all the Borderlands 3 dlc and topped off the rest of the achievements. Now my collection is complete.

Only two games for me:
Alan Wake Remastered and it's still a brilliant game, but unfortunately the PS5 port was from perfect because of small but annoying technical issues.
Far Cry 6 reminded me why I don't enjoy modern Ubisoft games, because I didn't find it original and I didn't care about any of the characters.

Finally got around to finishing A Plague Tale: Innocence. Good game that got seriously weird towards the end.

Also finished my first playthrough of Dark Souls 2 and all the DLC, which I enjoyed so much I respecced and went straight into NG+ for another go. So good, and for me better than the first.

I beat the cod black ops cold war campaign on veteran. I got the "bad" ending but loved it. So satisfying.
Also a throwback but beat alien vs predator. Very fun. Would love an isolation 2 or new game that plays more like dead space or re2 remake

Tormented Souls. More on that here

I also played a ton of Darkest Dungeon 2, managed to beat the run about 10 times last week. Despite being early access it's already one of my favorite games this year and can't wait for the finished game in 2022

Finished and platinumed Terminator Resistance.
Such an underrated smaller budget game.
Best Terminator since T2.

Alan Wake Remastered. Still so good especially in a time were almost every AAA game is an open world game.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
October was a busy month for me! I finished seven games:

Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance - PC
Psycho Dream - Switch
Rock Band 4 (Rocudrama) - PlayStation 5
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope - Xbox Series X
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart - PlayStation 5
The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes - Xbox Series X
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox - PC

Ys was my favorite of the bunch, but Ratchet and Clank surprised me. I had a blast playing through last year's Dark Pictures game as well as the new one, I played them both with my son in movie night mode. Rock Band 4 is a staple game at my house still, I'm always jamming out. Psycho Dream was cool, it's always fun to play through a SNES game I never played back in the day. The only stinker of the bunch was Dark Alliance - an awful game that I almost dropped several times but somehow managed to slog through. Jermaine Clement really made it sound like a lot more fun than it was.

This is from my 52 games in 2021 post. It was basically metroidvania month for me.

41. Ender Lilies (PC) - 20hrs
Loved it. Brilliant art and music. Combat is fun and I liked the bosses as well.

42. F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch (PC) - 13hrs
Wonderful metroidvania with good mechanics and upgrades. Nice graphics and style. Ran really smooth in DX11.

43. Hob (PC) - 9hrs
A game with no words. A masterclass in good game design. Great soundtrack too.

44. Metroid Dread (Switch) - 20hrs
Really loved the mechanics, and even the emmi sections (minus when I failed 10+ times). Boss battles were fun to learn for the most part, but the game would've been better with more unique ones. Devs made a fantastic game.

45. Ori and the Blind Forest (PC) - 7hrs
Really lovely. So glad I gave it another chance.

46. Ori and the Will of the Wisps (PC) - 12hrs
Didn't like it as much as the first, but had a decent time.

47. Unravel (PC) - 6hrs
Struck a chord with me emotionally, but multiple bugs and having to redo sections from one-hit fails made this a meh game.

48. Metroid Fusion (GBA) - 10hrs
Great game. Bosses were a little frustrating, but that was my only qualm. Loved it.

Lost judgement. It dragged a bit, but those games always have too much content. Overall, still really enjoyed it.

Now moving onto dying light and death stranding. Lttp on both. GotG after that hopefully off of a black friday deal.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole - Not a bad game but the first one was far better.
Rage 2 - Liked it, felt like I was playing mad max.
Zelda: BotW - Wasn't into this one.
South Park: Stick of Truth - I have to say, I liked this game a lot, surprised me.

DOOM Eternal

I completed the game twice in a row last year when it first came out but did another playthrough last month in an effort to refamiliarize myself with the controls before diving into the two expansions, which I've yet to play.

I love it every minute. The top-secret boss really had my wit but unfortunately, the Weiss battle is easy if you know the method.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

I expect great things from the reveal and I am glad I got it right. With beautiful art direction and souls- like difficulty, what's not to love?
I hope it gets nod for the sequel.

Had to play Resident Evillage 8 due to it being October, also because it was 25 years :lollipop_astonished: since I played the original. I ran through it a little too quick though but discovered it has an extra mode that won't be available till next year apparently.

Control.

Awesome game. Glad I waited to play this on PS5 (along with a bunch of other titles)

I FINALLY beat Legend of Grimrock 2. I had started and re-started it so many times. Still, proud of finishing!
How is it compared to the first game? I'm planning on picking it up at some point.

9th - Sonic Mania (Switch) ★★★★★

This game has jumped up from being a really great nostalgia trip, to being one of my fave 2D platformers ever made. I highly recommend this.

17th - Wolfenstein 2 (PC) ★★★★★

In a world so politically correct and with games having imagery censored, it was brilliant to see a game like this. It adds to the atmosphere and world building. The story wasn't as good as the first game, but overall I enjoyed this much more than a lot of the people I see online. Some of the scenes in this game are absolutely BRUTAL and I hope we still get games like this moving forward. I'm not some bloodthirsty gaming meathead, but it's nice to have diversity in the gaming landscape so this is a nice contrast to some of the other games I enjoy.

21st - Psychonauts (PC) ★★★★☆

the way this game tackles mental health issues is nothing short of amazing. There's a level involving a Milkman which will forever be in my god tier list of levels in games. It's a tad frustrating at times due to the jank of being such an old 3D platformer and I really wanted to give it 5 stars... but some of the jank just killed it for me.

Lost Judgement - XsX

Before I start....I wasn't really a Yakuza game series fan. During lockdown I bought Judgement, the first one, on sale just to play something that wasn't a FPS or zombie game...I was hooked ever since I started playing the first mission. I liked it soo much that I pre-ordered the sequel Lost Judgement ultimate edition to show my support to SEGA's RGG Studio. Then something funny happened...one of the DLC expansion packs with lotta goodies, which was due late October, got unlocked for the Xbox version by mistake in early October instead....moreover it had the BEST style for the character called Boxer style. So like whole of Oct I played nothing but Lost Judgement....since I'm a causal gamer with limited time.

IMHO LJ has solid fighting mechanics...one the best adventure fighter/beat'em up in 3D to date from RGG studio. And with new DLC boxer style...I got addicted to it & got a bit too good with it where I was beating up the bosses in the game with no damage in hardest difficulty. For example...

I really am enjoying the fighting mechanic in LJ which feels very polished, not to mention awesome music tracks the game has. On XsX I encountered zero bugs...so that was another mega plus point for me. The game is XsX optimized and supports quick resume...which helps a gamer like me who gets interrupted by real life NPC's and their quests a lot. Gfx is pretty alright, not really next gen but in performance mode it holds up 60fps really well. It has lots of mini-games like boxing, skating, dance club, casino games and other weird stuff to keep you busy if you want to do anything else but the main/sub story. Now the overall package might be a little underwhelming than the first Judgement game but LJ still is my GOTY for 2021...don't think anything will dethrone it. I highly recommend it if you are into the Yakuza games, IMHO this is the best spin-off game to date!

I feel ya on this. I finished it on Xbox One, Ps4, PS5 and Series X. The DLC is harder than the main campaign and is still very much the shit show that the main game. I obviously enjoyed it.

I rolled credits on Ghost of Tsushima (for the first time) and the Iki Island Expansion.

I feel super spoiled having played it for the first time on PS5, but I never had a PS4.

Now I'm working on Horizon Zero Dawn for November. I'm roughly 14 hours in, and it feels a bit dated (maybe because it is). The dead eyes are real.

Such a sad story of the futility of revenge and loss, and of how we as a species are just fucking doomed to pathetic tribalism should a catastrophe of the same nature happen to us.
I ended up liking Abby far more than Ellie too.

I’m doing a secondary playthrough with the kids too, about halfway through there. Game of the Year 2021 for me, absolutely loved it from start to finish.
