Far Cry 6 - Official Review Thread

Can you still pancake people with thrown melee weapons in this? That was the best part of Far Cry 5.

Edit:

No, you only have your machete for melee and another weapon that you can use the shield as melee. This game has a lot more regular weapons plus a lot of special ones too that make up for shovel throwing lol.

I'm loving incendiary rounds on my SMG and LMG.

I was using an LMG with those for awhile. I switch up weapons a lot to keep it interesting. Currently using a AS VAL as my medium range, a .50 cal for sniping, and the minigun resolver weapon with blast rounds for vehicles.

After the update I notice enemies flash a gold color when I get near them? What's up with this, is it another graphical glitch?
It might be a setting or could be a bug. I had a bug a few weeks ago when the enemy color for everything changed to yellow from red without me changing anything. A restart of the game fixed it.

This game is so bad for me on PC / Win 11. Ryzen 5900 / RTC 3090. It really makes me regret installing Win 11, but it is probably general Ubisoft Bullshit.

It will not run in full screen anymore. It did at first for a couple hours, then decided it was no longer an option. Cant toggle in menu or use the keyboard command to toggle. The best it was letting me do without tinkering is some weird res between 1440P and 4K. The best I can do while fucking with files is to force, a nearly FS 4k window that the game then scales down by a few pixels to keep the window's menu/top bar in view. I then have to autohide the taskbar. The latest update kept crashing but I was able to get it to work after reinstalling the latest AMD Chipset drivers. ( previously installed them before the windows update). It did not fix the full screen bullshit. Neither did uninstalling / reinstalling the game

Another thing I want to bitch about is the blatantly manipulative HD texture pack "requirements" These are bullshit and skewed towards AMD GPUs. They claim 11GB or more is required. For the RTX 3090 I think it uses just north of 8GB with full settings. I did have it running full screen with HDR to start and then it got borked and will not let me do either, so my memory results are not because of the windowed setting at slightly less than 4k. Clearly the memory requirements are GPU dependent and a 3080 would do just fine.

I've got a 5950X and Nvidia 3090 on Win 11. I haven't encountered any of the extreme issues you have, but here is what I did to fix some of the issues with the HD texture pack:

Go to:
  1. Documents
  2. My Games
  3. Far Cry 6
Then delete everything in that folder.

Finally, load up Far Cry 6 and you'll see it go through the Shader/PSO update. This could take awhile, and it could also hang. If it hangs, just start it up again and it should load just fine.

Also, please make sure you're using the latest AMD chipset drivers (whoops, saw that you are--maybe check your Bios for updates):

Hope it works!

Got this on sale and started playing it , yes, it's another far cry but I've been enjoying it.. but the mix of cultures has me(cuban) and my gf(Mexican) laughing.. it's like they just grabbed a pot and threw them in there and shaked it up. Still fun. The AI is typical Ubisoft though. Also find it funny how they throw in the casa del papel(money heist) song in there to and a dlc.. I can't with Ubisoft 😂.

I've started playing this from my backlog and I struggle with crashers. Play an hour, crash, another hour, crash, etc. Setup is fairly standard. RTX 3080 latest drivers, Windows 11, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU, 16GB memory. Nothing special otherwise, and other games such as CP2077 runs fine on this rig. Output is 4k to my living room OLED with VRR and 120hz max refresh. I use DLSS and High details, HD textures disabled.

I think the MC for this is a little low. Put in just less than 50 hours to wrap up the platinum and had a really good time with FC6. Would probably give it a high 7 or low 8 myself. Interested to see what setting the next one goes to , maybe a north pole or snowy setting? Russia could be cool too
