Forza Horizon 5 - Review thread

I think 1 is still such a hidden gem even at 85 review score. Lot of people wrote it off because it seemed like a cheap spin off. I think its the best one behind 3.

Best Soundtrack by far.
I agree. 1 was such a unique game at the time and blew me away, but re-visiting it after playing the others, and I think it is maybe the best setting. Neck and neck with 3 for me.

If you Google 4229 Icelandic Krona to USD it says it’s $32. However, I’m not sure if you can do it from the US, I just know that UK based people definitely can.
I don't think you can do it from the US. When I went to checkout it didn't have my payment methods from my MS account(CC, PayPal, MS balance, etc). If you go to add a card, it doesn't have the option for United States, only about a dozen Euro countries. I'm not sure what would happen if you run it with an incorrect country, I was assuming the transaction would fail.

I want to know how it looks and performs on Xbox One. I wonder if they dropped any features like they did with Horizon 2 on the Xbox 360.

Was anyone ever really expecting this not to review well lol..

This is one of the few games where you literally check the reviews to make sure they didn't fuck something up rather than if the game is good or not which is a good thing.

Congrats to Playground. Consistent kings. Looking forward to playing it next week.

Also I'm pretty sure turn 10 and playground codevelop forzatech, with turn 10 making the baseline stuff and playground adapting it and adding their own requirements. Then turn 10 takes some of those additions and puts them into FM, etc. It's not just a one way street from t10

yeah, it makes no sense t10 implementing engine features that are used only or fundamentally on fh.

You drive a whole bunch of cool cars in a huge map that looks awesome, feels great, ,and performs rock solid. There is little else to ask for, you would really need to be nit picking to score it less than 90.

right, things like large world streaming or the event lab stuff prob makes no sense, but I think from the recent IGN Forza history video Horizon was the first to have night cycles and weather and then those were added into FM. So it's give and take between the two teams.

first racing game to win game of the year?
If they would have made it that your drivers ex wife suddenly passed away, and now he had to race to pay for his previously estranged sick, yet troubled sons medication.

Have the 2 learn about each other during the course of the festival, while the dad fends off his guilt and the son deals with the ups and downs of puberty, then in the end they discover that nobody can defeat them as long as they are united.

They probably could have won GOTY. 🤣

I decided to pick this up on Steam this time around as I will most likely be selling my Series X. Plus playing on Steam Deck in bed sounds nice.

I don't see why it shouldnt be at least nominated.
Because it's a racing game, not a set piece driven tear jerking cinematic single player game. Literally not a chance in hell it wins Game of the Year from any of the major publications.

They'd also need to change the driving to just be gently nudge the car in the direction of the driving line, no throttle/brake controls, and every corner is a cutscene.

Highest rated game of 2021 (so far) not winning GOTY would be ironic

Pretty crazy that on metacritic if you take out Hades, a port of a previous generation 2020 game, the 3 highest rated games on "next gen" consoles are Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2, and Flight Simulator - all Xbox first party exclusives.

Horizon 5 definitely won't win many GOTY awards, if any. GOTY awards are as pointless as the Oscars.

100% will be my most played game for the next year or so

Honestly I keep getting blown away the more I play.

I was playing earlier on the big TV and my wife walked in and watched for a minute and even she said this game looks amazing

Can you say whether or not someone who has never played a Forza Horizon game would enjoy this if they aren't a big racing fanatic? Will certainly play this whenever I can get my hands on an XSX to try it out.

I'm not the biggest racing fan, I think the only series I got into over the past 20 years was MotorStorm due to the arcadey nature and physics of it. And before that? I guess I was big on WaveRace 64, Diddy Kong Racing, etc.

Does this have any similar hooks to those games?

Imo I would say FH is similar in the way that like those games it feels good to play and has that arcadey feel. It's very accessible to novice racing players.

I haven't played FH5 yet, and while I'm not a big racing fan either Forza Horizon 4 ended up being one of my favorite games, well, ever. I gave it a shot on a whim and it definitely put its hooks in me almost right away. The graphics, sound, thrill of zipping around a beautiful map - it's all wonderfully crafted and just plain fun, and doesn't take itself too seriously. It plays arcadey enough for someone who isn't big into cars or racing to have a great time with it. It's also open world, so you're not stuck just running race after race like a more conventional racing game if you don't want to. It's all very accessible to the layman.

I'm not sure about the progression system of FH5 other than what I had read, but FH4 definitely had that feeling of "just one more race" to get a new ride or a wheel spin for prizes. FH5 is said to improve on that with accolades and skill points not being tied to a particular car, so I can imagine this one will have even a greater "hook" than the last one.

Thanks, sounds like it may be more of my kind of game vs something like GT or Forza proper

I guess the only big worry of mine is getting bored. Somehow those older gsme series I mentioned just managed to really grab me with their challenges, but a big part of the appeal came from the mechanics and physics too.

I’m curious how much the open world will really add to the experience since Diddy Kong is the closest I’ve played to an open world racer

game is clearly very stunning with its vibrant cars and environments
