Brie Larson Stars in New Metroid Dread Ad

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

Over the years, Brie Larson has spoken at length about her passion for Nintendo, and the Captain Marvel star is showing that off in a new ad promoting Metroid Dread and the Nintendo Switch OLED. The paid ad appears on Larson's Instagram page, and in it, she talks about what series star Samus Aran means to her. Since the first Metroid released back in 1987, Samus has been depicted as one of the most powerful women in gaming, and Larson discusses how important it was seeing that while growing up. The actress also reveals that Samus has been her go-to in Super Smash Bros. over the years.

A Fucking Idiot
Is the game selling so poorly that they turn to her of all people because she has (limited) star power? Is this Nintendo trying to reach a new audience. I don't think the militant nazi feminist crowd would give a shit about a hard-core 2d Metroid game. What is the angle here?

Also it's OLED, not o.l.e.d. it just sounds weird when she says it.

Or because she started a mainstream Animal Crossing trend. And Nintendo hope she can do it again. She has become Nintendo‘s de facto advertising partner.

I watched captain marvel when it released on Disney plus. what I could muster deep down in the pit of my stomach to finish it. I left the app, left with a cold and blank feeling, I said to myself. "Why was this hyped, and why was everyone running around when she was announced as the main character. as she was some fantastic, note worthy actress to court and fawn over?" till this day, I don't know how she manages to stay relevant. she has to be one of the most blandest, uninteresting, driest actresses currently in the movie space. there was nothing about her interpretation of captain marvel that stuck out to me. So seeing this, is really cringe, because it comes off as her trying to look cool, and play on the whole "I'm a gamer" angle when it's...uh...well its pretty damn embarrassing.

Four replies and no Larson feet closeups. I'm proud, GAF.
Impatiently waiting for them. Are they bad?

I’ll admit to unfairly judging celebrities that advertise games. Comes off as a cash grab. But who knows? She could be the lifelong gamer she claims to be. And who am I to judge?

At least it’s not part of Nintendo’s advertisements. Just a shoutout from a “fan”

The previous commercials she did for Nintendo looked fake. This looked genuine at least. It was cute.

She was a big factor into Animal Crossing success (at least for Nintendo's eyes). I guess Nintendo wanted to keep that going with Metroid Dread.

Also, she is a Metroid fan. She has cosplayed as Samus before and have said many times that wants to play Samus in a Metroid movie (which could actually happen now that Nintendo is into making movies).

The video is cringey indeed, but at least a fan is selling the game.

Awww, man, and I was THIS close to liking Nintendo again!

Just kidding, I've got nothing against Nintendo, but Larson is one of the most toxic personalities in her space. Pretty tone deaf.

Please. Larson was born in 1989. If there’s one female role model from video games for people born in that period, it’s Lara Croft and Lara Croft only. I seriously doubt Larson even heard of Samus Aran “while growing up”.
