It's been exactly a year since PS5 released and you still can't walk into a shop and purchase one

It was an easy and smooth way for me to obtain one... I setup some stock monitoring bot notifications on my phone and email.

Watched it for 8 months and then scored one.

I bought mine back in February it mostly has been collecting dust since I finished Miles Morales and Ratchet and clanck
I beat Demon's Souls last November. That's about it. Played NieR in April. Got through about 20% of Kena so far but was a little bored with it. Dropped Miles Morales after a few hours from boredom.

Xbox and Switch carrying the load for me.

That's not good advice. PS5 might actually get some use next year. Horizon, FFXVI, God of War. Best to just wait.
If you're smart they are easy to get. I'm selling mine, the headset and controllers all for full price in a few weeks and I've already got the replacement ps5 and headset ready to unbox. Just need to buy the new controllers but they won't be out of stock.

You have 7+ years with the thing. Let it collect dust. Dust it off when the fire games really come. Nothing wrong with future proofing your hobby.

Yeah it's pretty bad, and I think it will just prolong the cross gen games.
It's not too hard to find one in my country, there's some site that will alert you when they are in stock and they usually don't sell out instantly (it takes maybe 20 minutes so there's a bit of time).
It's just a shame Sony is price scalping their own console here.

There's only Demon's Souls and that one with the aliens. PS5 doesn't really have any huge bangers right now.

There's more to a system than just the exclusives, not everyone has a gaming PC on the side.
These new consoles also run most new games substantially better than last gen ones. It's not that I need a Ps5 to play Elden Ring, but I'd rather play it in 60fps than 30fps with frame pacing issues.

The thirst is wild to me because they’re really aren’t any native games for it. Fight me.

Never understood this argument (or rather why it is applied to the general population). I sold my PS4 and haven't looked back: playing games in a higher graphical fidelity and with better performance was more than enough reason for me to pay 100 bucks more for a PS5. I have a friend who really only plays Dead at Daylight and they got one just for that game's PS5 update.

. . .and there's no need to fight over such a demonstrably false statement.

Cant walk into a shop and buy anything anymore. Even the local walgreens is out of Candy. Haloween cleared em out.
Yep PS5 is the record holder for me having the Money set aside, having the want to buy, and not getting my hands on yet.

It's just crazy had this ever happened before with any generation prior. And when can we expect to be able to just walk in a shop and purchase a PS5, or even a Series X or graphics card. Are we talking 2022, 2023, 2024? I guess making Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West cross gen maoes sense after all. I personally think we will get another full year of cross gen with games like Call of Duty 2022 and etc all being cross gen. Next gen won't really properly start until sometime in 2023 which is just insanse. Yes we have had exclusives like Ratchet, Demons Souls and Returnal. But this ain't massive games like God of War.

I'd guess 2024 at this point.

Definitely not at any time in 2022 will there be PS5s on store shelves.

There was one glancing at me through the glass at my local Meijer about two or three months ago. I had already gotten mine through PlayStation Direct at launch. I thought about grabbing it and selling it, but I figured it might make someone’s day to randomly run into it there, so I left it be. I did go in the next day for milk and some other random shopping things and it was gone. I always wondered what happened to that guy 😢

People saying they are fine playing cross-gen games like forbidden west, gt7, Elden ring, god of war on ps4….lol

I played on my brothers ps4 the other day and it reminded me of playing Metroid dread on my switch. Everything about it was slow as hell, and the UI felt like an old galaxy phone. Not to mention how loud it is.

Yeah I’m really happy I’m not playing the best games of 2022 on 2013 hardware.

Excluding preorders, out of all the next gen consoles sold afterwards, I wonder how many were distributed to stores vs. them just stocking them as online orders.

Given how well they sell out, there's not even a point dishing out 4 units to this or that store. But it seems some people have scored walk up sales. I did mine online.

Who knows. Maybe it's 90/10 internet vs. in person.

Conveniently forgot Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. :D
I got my ps5 at launch but still can't find a XSX. Only want it for gamepass, would have saved me tons from the bad games I bought on ps5 that are free on gamepass.
It's not free you're paying a monthly sub and don't own the games you play.

Maybe Holiday 2022. Sony is making a PS5 that uses TSMC 6nm, so they'll probably produce PS5s that uses both 7nm and 6nm to boost production volume.

Guess you should have...

Sony waited until the clever haxor guy cracked the firmware. Now they patch it with soldering iron and problem solved. Oh and also sent out a hitman to deal with the threat. After everything is resolved, the chip shortage will cease to exist.

Btw. Time to open source chip fabs so everyone can cook chips at home.

One time I went to Costco in the morning and there were like 200 PS5 there. I returned at night before closing and they were all sold out!
I went to a Wal-Mart and had like 30 XSX, after one week they still had some. The series S is always in stock somewhere.

The weird thing is that when the PS5 was available for pre-order the first time, I saw it was in stock even 3 hours later. I didn't pre-order then, and waited until a second time. I had no issues at all pre-ordering and my PS5 arrived on 12 December last year.

It'd help if they actually sent some to a shop. At least in previous console droughts you could get lucky in person or line up for a drop every once in a while.

The situation is bad, but it's being compounded by bots.

Yes it does suck. I know stores that allow you to purchase from them but they currently are doing lottery's for purchasing rights. Tried several times already and I haven't gotten one yet.

I go to Costco all the time. I have never seen any next gen system ever. Although it could be similar to you as I only go to Costco after work. I never go in the morning, so maybe some pallets have been there.

Every once in a while I see Switches though.

I was kind of afraid that this is exactly what was going to happen. That's why I pre-ordered 6 PS5s as soon as it was possible, just to be on the safe side. Two of them were not canceled and actually arrived on releaseday. A third one I was able to get a few weeks later for a friend.

Not sure that would even work though even in bigger quantities because the major stores always announce it where I am, and they're gone/held for pre-orders even if you do turn up in person.

When I got Xbox One, I walked into a store and asked if any are around. The Best Buy clerk went to the online pick orders room and grabbed me one. lol.

This really isn't anything new. It happened with the PS4 Pro, it's still happening with the Switch. If you want to walk into a store and buy a new PS5, you probably won't be able to reliably do that until 2024 or 2025.

I guess Sony’s site had 4 or 5 for sale today. Got an invite yesterday. Clicked the link a bit earlier at the stated time, got into a Que for like 11 minutes, then got redirected to the site to actually purchase and…….. “Out of stock”. Fuck you Sony. Well, actually saved me over $500.

So wait, the invite to purchase isn't guaranteed? Well that defeats the whole fucking purpose.

PS1, PS2 and PS3 I got on launch day. Could have gotten the PS4 on launch too but decided to hold off a bit wasn’t ended up getting one about 3 months later. PSP was a launch day get too. Vita I did get a bit after launch. Did get a XBox 360 on launch day but that was more to tide me over with a HD console as the PS3 did not launch until a year later.
