US NPD October 2021

That 854 doesn't include digital either. I don't think any of these numbers do correct?

I know I bought it digitally, so ...
Numbers from Nintendo do, which these numbers are, it's the NPD that doesn't include digital.

How is Mortal Kombat 11 still on these lists? Japanese fighter publishers need to learn a thing or two from WB's marketing because they did something right. KOF XV youtube vids have certainly been seeing good success with those MK11 style character trailers.

Happy for Metroid. Well deserved.

I really don't think so..The PS4 hasn't done that, no console has done that.
Maybe not triple, but it would sell a lot more. The first-year surge of the PS5 hasn't really happened yet. Considering the big numbers it's selling and how few people can get a hold of one, if it was stocked, it would smash any record.

13.5 million sales in 11 months is great, but for reference Switch sold 28.8 million last fiscal year, and PS4 and Switch are ahead of PS5 launch aligned.

Your argument is a difficult one to make considering PS4's best year of all years on the market was 20 million.

Do I think PS5 could have beaten 20 million with the covid launch hype? Sure, but 28.8 million is a stretch, especially without Japan.

Switch is also having shortages btw and was supposed to ship 30 million this fiscal year.

Selling over twice as much as the most popular Metroid is very impressive.

Prime did 3 million lifetime and was #1 in the series. So that would be a very healthy 5-10 million copies for Dread lifetime if we were to extrapolate the numbers
TBF, game unit sales almost never scale linearly with hardware unit sales for a given platform. And, the ratios are very lopsided to begin with.

Games like MK Wii saw a massive explosion in software sales due to their platform, but those were also games with a much bigger mainstream hook, and were MP-centric to boot. The Metroid IP has neither of those things in its favor.

That said, Dread could definitely hit near or somewhere above Metroid Primes #s; I'd take the lower end of that 5-10 million estimate of yours tho TBH (say 5.5 million to 6 million LTD).

30 million was the production number not the shipment number.

Kinda shocked at how low the guardian of the galaxy is in the chart and that demon slayer game just popped out of nowhere and how is mario kart still on this chart after all this time.

Who knows. But 90% of the people I know that want a PS5 haven't found one. We get like 20 PS5 every 6 months over here, the US is where you have any stock at all it seems. If all the markets were stocked up, the numbers would be astronomical worldwide.

Numbers don’t really mean anything right now as sony can’t make nearly enough to meet demand. I’m 100% confident sony could have sold well over 20 million by now if not for supply issues

Don't forget this doesn't include digital and I'm sure Dread sold pretty well on the eshop cuz its been #1 and has stayed around the top for a while now.

Gotta be 1 mil sold already at least?
The 854,000 is from Nintendo PR so does include digital.

TLOU2 will chart the same way next year when its directors cut releases
Ghost was a new IP going against one of the biggest Sony IPs of all time and yet it had much longer legs than TLOU2.

Ghost charted 5 times in NPD top 20 in 2020: July (1), August (4), September (12), October (13), November (20).

TLOU2 charter 3 times in comparison: June (1), July (4), August (12).

Still shocks me to see how many people are still hurt over this game.

It's also not surprising to see GoT on the charts again after it was re-released on PS5.
The only ones that are hurt are Sony and their pockets, their biggest game of the generation only charted 3 times in NPD top 20 while a newcomer like Ghost did it 5 times, so the excuse of re-release is irrelevant when it comes to which of the two had longer legs.

Can't believe how popular MLB, absolutely monster franchise.

Great to see Ghosts of Tsushima selling well too, can't wait to play the Director's Cut.

I’m sure once sony updates the sale through number there will be another excuse for why this game flopped from people still hurt from video game daddy dying

In a userbase that huge it's not a great deal though - only 1m sold in a userbase of 30m+?

Better than the previous entry, but that's a pretty low percentage of buyers.

Doesn't matter really. Ghost already showed here that indeed has legs, while the only thing you guys can do is throwing petty insults and keeping holding your hopium cilinder in the hope they either showed the updates sales or launched a supposed PS5 version. The PS5 version launching is plausible though, the question here is why not launch already and why theres no info about it so far other than "rumors" about a remake of the first one. In any case, this is a NPD numbers thread so you better sit down and wait for the actual numbers so you can throw the "hurt video" lamish comment.

Nintendo usually undershoots their targets intentionally. The intended to sell the 30 they wanted in production.
Nintendo has missed or revised down hardware targets quite a few times, so I don't think its true to say they usually undershoot. The 30 million they wanted to produce this year would not all have been shipped this year. Some of that 30 million was the following fiscal year.

isn't the show nowhere near as bad as ea or 2k when it comes to microtransactions?
maybe people like sports games where they aren't treated like cows

Third highest-earning Sony game in less than 2 months.

The Last of Us Part II had longer legs. Do you think US is the only place it sells? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The game is also cheaper and NPD is based on revenue, not units sold.

Metroid is still a niche franchise for Nintendo. Iconic for sure but nowhere near other Nintendo AAA.

if they announce it's selling more than TLOU Remastered number which is around 10M, then it's a success
It's very much likely past that at this point.

If Ghost of Tsushima was at 6.5 million back in March and Last of Us performed better overall, then I don't see how it could not sell 10 million at this point.

Ghost of Tsushima didn't have strong sales in Europe compared to The Last of Us Part II.

Please provide some form of evidence for your claim, anyone can claim anything on internet. In both US and Japan Ghost had way longer legs, so your claim is contrary to facts.

I can provide more week-by-week charts. The European region is much bigger and it didn't fare nearly as well as The Last of Us Part II. Japan is the only country where The Last of Us Part II dominated, but those sales are enough to make up the ground that was lost.

They beat expectations the last two years. Shattered them in fy 2020.

Anything to backup this info?

That Directors Cut is very, very likely. I see no reason for Sony to milk some games ,but not the fastest selling Playstation game in history lol Ok pal

If Ghost and Death Stranding have Directors Cuts, The Last Of Us 2's Directors Cut is a given and shouldn't shock anyone.

I expect a Directors Cut, The Last Of Us 1 remake and that MP likely bundled into the Directors Cut and some PC version down the line. Sony Bend even confirming that they are working on a new IP supports the very rumor that talked about The Last Of Us 1 remake. With how Sony is doing things, none of this should be shocking though lol

They've made remakes before
They've made ummm "directors cuts" before
They've put games on PC

I don't think any of those rumors are that far off and they sound more inevitable then anything.

Which isn't surprising given Covid. The year before that they missed their original Switch target by over 3 million and they missed Wii U and 3DS targets on multiple occasions. It's definitely not the 'norm' for them to undershoot hardware targets intentionally.

Regardless, them asking suppliers to try and provide 30 million this fiscal year doesn't mean they were aiming to sell that many this fiscal year.
