I've done this already with Blizzard, Supergiant Games and the Assassin's Creed games. I've decided to do this until i run out of interesting companies/series to gauge opinion on.

Rockstar Games, alongside arguably Valve and a few persistent console developers, are one of the few great 00s developers who haven't at least partially tarnished their legacy of high standards and consistently medium-busting titles.

They are fond of the third person, it's true, this seems to be by and large their favoured way of seeing a game world, but what they lack in wholesale innovation they make up for in innovative iteration. And money. In the 10s especially their games have been present in pluralities near the pointy end of Top Games of All Time lists.

You can't see votes before you vote, your can't change your vote, we all know what you voted for. For fun.

GTA and RDR we all know. Midnight Club was an accessible arcade racing series with some great graphics and tight controls. LA Noire an innovative crime/detection sim with an engrossing story and impressive setting. The manhunt games were controversially violent.

Note: For the sake of some kind of poll brevity, I've had to curate the list sightly. This is not a comprehensive list, and I've striped out expansions, handheld console releases set in mainline titles' worlds, etc. Believe me I'll believe YOU if you want to vote for a PSP title, but I can't open that can of poll options. I consider Max Payne 1 and 2 to be Remedy games, despite their presence on certain lists of Rockstar games. There are a few games I chose to omit - I actually love Monster Truck Madness for the PC, but I never played it on N64 and i rather think it wasn't better than Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Revolver was largely made by Capcom, though Rockstar did make it coherent (perhaps not the best word choice) and finished it.

i should probably have omitted Oni for the same reasons I omitted Max Payne 1+2, dammit.

If I get one vote it's going to Bully, I probably played VC and SA more overall but Bully holds a really special place in my heart. After all this time I actually sort of DON'T want a Bully 2 since Dan Houser is no longer behind the wheel.

Seems a shame to omit the GTA Stories games but I guess if people get one vote they're probably going to fall by the wayside.

Didn't Capcom only come up with the title and theme of Red Dead? I'm pretty sure the studio that was making Revolver was bought by Rockstar and renamed Rockstar Whatever.

Anyway, my vote goes to Vice City.

My favourite game video essayist, he says a heap about the development of Revolver, I may have slightly understated how much Rockstar contributed but yeah, it was certainly worked on by Capcom - apparently it almost forced one of their star directors to quit making games lol

I still have my ps2 Oni copy... It's beautiful, i love that game!
I have very faint memory of that game. I remember I was shocked to learn the game was made by Bungie only years ago.
So what is it, bungie or Rockstar ?

edit: R* was publisher. ok

Voted Max Payne 3. Feel like MP2:The Fall of Max Payne slightly edges out Vice City as best Rockstar game ever made.

Bought rdr2 for 20$... And if I could I would ask for a refund, how can anyone prefer that game over San Andreas? Game is just one big fucking cinematic with little gameplay... I prefer to watch a movie.

RDR is better than 2, no way people find the new one better with how boring the story was.

so yes my pick is RDR :)

The story was one of the best parts with one of the best protagonists (Arthur Morgan) ever written in a game.

Red Dead is interesting but rockstar will have to adjust the Wild West isn’t as interesting as people think it only dominated humanity’s timeline for 20 or 30 years and yet all of a sudden it’s the best, the Wild West eventually dries out, GTA’s could last forever as humanity, gang wars, people adjust.

I know it's popular to shit on it these days (rightfully so), but I thought GTA V was a really fucking good game back when it was released. It felt so polished for an open world game, was fun to play, and had an interesting story. First GTA I ever finished.

That's the last R* game I played though. But they have only released one more since then I suppose.

Red dead redemption for me. I went in with low expectations since I was never a big fan of gta and for the most part I was blown away. It was a bit overlong, but still a lot of fun and engaging story as well. And none of the try hard shit found in the gta games.

I really need to try rdr2.

To be fair the Wild West has been less boring than its representation for like 80 years now, R* were paying homage to classic western movies not the time period...

Those Wild West movies and tv shows were some of them most popular and longest running things in us history, so yeah it's cool that were brought to the game life...

... R* games are so big and represent such jumps that i can't imagine RDR3... And i can't imagine what it'd be about...

Dude, of course it's Vice City. RDR2 might have had a pretty engaging story but honestly, that game is nowhere near as fun to play as Vice City was back in the day.

I'm really not that big of a fan of Rockstar's obsession with self-indulgent "realism" and ultra detailed immersive elements. They're kinda pointless and make the game a slog to play. Unless of course you use it to ragdoll charcters around, then it's a bit funny.
