Bethesda Wants Elder Scrolls 6 To Be Playable For A Decade, Like Skyrim

'We want our next game that wont be out for twenty years to be playable for ten years..'

What is this shit? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'll tell my grandkids who arent born yet to get ready then. Jesus christ.

In a recent interview, Howard spoke about some of the worries he has been having over developing The Elder Scrolls 6, namely whether it will be just as huge among the fan base in terms of longevity. He doesn't necessarily mean in terms of how long the actual game will be, but in how long it will endure, or whether it will have the kind of legacy that Skyrim is currently still in the throes of. He added that the next game will likely need to be a "decade game," meaning that it will almost need to top TES5 which, as of now, is pretty much still as popular today as it was when it was released in 2011.
Definitely sounds like a threat.

Yeah, it’ll take that much to iron out the bugs anyway.

Distancing releases for the biggest games is inevitable considering the amount of resources each of them takes these days, but an overly long development cycle isn‘t a good sign either. A lot can happen within the studio during all that time.

Vanilla? Not many people. The Skyrim modding scene is off the chain, there's a hell of a lot of people who've played Skyrim on-and-off with different mods for a decade.
So they want their next one to be just like that. A game the fans will fix for them, and Bethesda will be proud about that.

there is a difference between being playable and milking it. skyrim is not playable. they are milking it. sure you can play it and it's on a lot of hardware but doesn't really make it a good game. i enjoyed it 10 years ago but there's no reason for me to go play it and there hasn't been for years. There are so many games out there that do open world RPGs better. I'd rather Bethesda just focusing on making a new exciting game instead of trying to keep it around forever. Make a great game and people will naturally want to play it forever. I wish we had got ESVI about 3-4 years ago. So their plan isn't really working but hey they got to milk it a bit more for Switch, VR, and now PS5/XSX.

If TES6 isn’t coming soon it will be 15 years for Skyrim
Well Starfield is their next game and that's not out for another year...

Their last big game was Fallout 76 in 2018 and before that Fallout 4 in 2015. So it's not to crazy to think that ES VI won't be out until 2025-2028. It'll come towards the end of this console generation.

So yeah Skyrim will easily be a 15-17 year old game by the time we get the next ES game.

They would have to make a good game first which is something that I don't think Bethesda is capable of anymore. When they're already starting to count the chickens before they roost then you know this thing is not gonna deliver.

I loved Skyrim, played it non stop around 2 to 3 months a year after its launch ( waited that they fix all trashy bugs that were in the game), fully complete it with all dlcs. Incredible experience to say the least.

But this guy talking 10 years, GTFOH dude.

They already are milking tons of free news articles from it. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Remember when we use to complain how everything was a sequel and companies were just pouring all there money into churning out sequel after sequel as quick as possible? … and now we have this thread of people bitching that companies aren’t making sequels fast enough. So crazy.

You think that is confusing? Well, I agree. I'm also confused how cloud gaming suddenly became celebratory.

Elder Scrolls timeline (years between numbered games):

1. Arena: 1994
2. Daggerfall: 1996 (2 years)
3. Morrowind: 2002 (6 years)
4. Oblivion: 2006 (4 years)
5. Skyrim: 2011 (5 years)
6. ES6: 2026? (15 years?)

Got to be 100% honest here: as a PlayStation gamer I was bummed that ES6 isn't going to show up. But looking at the supposed timeline, I imagine I'd be over the franchise by the time 6 arrives.

(and the cynic in me suggests I'd still want to wait a year before picking it up, due to the huge number of bugs)

Most mods aren't "fixing" Skyrim though, they're adding stuff to it. And they probably are proud of a game that's in the top ~20 best selling of all time, yeah.

I'm not saying I personally get the appeal, I played 80 hours at launch and never touched it since, but it's easy to see why people can revisit that world over and over, especially with mods.

Incoming smaller base game with loads of dlc etc

It makes sense to release the game in chunks, unfortunately. I can see them making a base map with cities and questlines etc. But will have seasonal or yearly updates adding quests and events to make people come back every so often to play the new content, paid of course. It will be an online only game so you can't use mods outside of the creative club or whatever it is called. People will hate it. The world will end. You know how it goes...

The people you'll hear the most are the ones complaining. Those who don't care or are fine with it are less likely to post. Always has been

Thats why forums usually look like a cluster fuck

Well yeah thats a great posiiton to be in.

to be fair I did start a new skyrim game the other day and I am having a blast. lol Its not like it still sales for no reason.

If that's really what the devs wanted, then they should release it to more than just Xbox and PC. It's a dead horse though, and I am no longer interested in fighting on that hill.

Skyrim is still fun and a unique experience that I still enjoy.

Glad he cares about it’s quality and longevity

Calling devs who made some of the biggest and most expansive games in history "lazy" 🤦‍♂️

And you obviously totally missed the point he was trying to make.

Rerereleasing Skyrim for 3 consecutive generations, when a new ES game hasn't come out in that time, is in fact lazy.

At least with games like RE4, which has been released every generation pretty much, that didn't stop Capcom from releasing the subsequent RE games (i.e. RE5, RE6, RE7, etc.).

Are you stupid?

Have you played a RE game and Skyrim? You can fit the scope of 40 RE games in Skyrim alone.

After Skyrim they also made FO4 and FO76 which are two AAA games. Thats 3 games from the same dev in less than 10 years.

Article has no real full sentence quotes.. no links to anything.

What exactly did he say? They literally only quote the words "decade game."

I wonder why they didn’t keep releasing new story content for Skyrim. They had two major expansions (Dawnguard and Dragonborn), but that was it. I imagine they could’ve made a lot of money if they had kept releasing new story expansions all these years.

Sure you can.🙄

Pretty easy when animations suck, you pad out the game with dialog, and 80% of the effort went into world creation.

Typical bethtard behavior ...

- OMG! Did you guys play Oblivion? It's AWESOME!!! 12/10! Buy it now! Get two copies - it's so good you gonna need a backup!
... years later...
- Fallout 3? One word - WOW! It's AWESOME! We all know that Oblivion was kinda shitty and bland, but Fallout 3 is da bomb!
... years later...
- SKYREEEEIM!!!! You'll be playing it forever and then pass the cum-stained disk to your children asking them to continue your adventures! That's how fucking good it is. Unlike Fallout 3 which clearly was shite. Sure, we gave it 15/10 but we are men enough to admit our mistakes (since nobody cares about these games now)
