The most popular game console on Black Friday 2021 isn't the PlayStation 5 — it's the $300 Xbox Series S (due to availability)

An unlikely video game console is dominating sales on one of the biggest shopping days of the year: The $300 Xbox Series S console from Microsoft, according to the Adobe Digital Economy Index.

Though Sony's PlayStation 5, Microsoft's Xbox Series X, and Nintendo's Switch OLED models remain the most highly sought after consoles, chip shortages and high demand have rendered them nearly impossible to find.

The Xbox Series S, on the other hand, is readily available at a variety of retailers right now — from GameStop to Best Buy.

Among the "over one trillion visits to U.S. retail sites" measured by Adobe, the Xbox Series S was among the top selling items thus far for Black Friday 2021.

Doubtful.
Here is our local expert telling us that it's the least desirable console:
Nah I'm quoting you because I've been saying this for days now: Series S is the least desireable next gen machine. There's a minor but vocal group on GAF that insists Series S is secretly the most popular Xbox. Thank you friend, You have given me new ammunition and I will continue the good fight. To War!

Isn't this just a matter of availability? There's a chip shortage going on and the Series S only needs half the chips of a Series X.

People often seem to think it only applies to the APU. But it apples to GDDR6 and NAND dies as well.

Series S's have been available much more than the others. It also was sold buy one get one $10 at GameStop.
That was error price. Gamestop is retarded in that matter. I won't feel sorry for them though. They trying to rip me off, when I try to sell my consoles.

Microsoft got their money it's GameStop eating the loss from their mistake though, so I'm sure Microsoft is fine with it

If you don't have a pc you will need an xbox series console for great games that are coming to that platform so xbox series S is a great choice.

Yup so goes Ireland so goes the world right? I'd imagine the same story is told in larger markets like the US for instance?

I just wanted check once more when will the XSS be removed from the market because no one is buying it? 😉

It being available to buy doesn't mean it isn't selling. Glad to see the multi-prong approach is working for MS. More people gaming is a good thing.

Only one that’s available. Local GameStop sold out of 24 series X in 2 min yesterday and still has 20 S in stock as of today when I asked about inventory. They said they’ve only ever had X in stock in store 3 times since launch.

Makes you wonder…..

"Selling" doesn't make it the "most popular" either. Seems obvious to me that the "most popular" are the consoles everyone wants but can't find anywhere because they are the "most popular".

Again, no it fucking hasn't.

  1. Xbox Series S – 2,243 (50,999)
  2. Xbox Series X – 350 (67,716)

You can search the rest. The total might go to xsx, but lately, people have been buying the seriesS.

hmmm.....
You do understand that being "sold out" isn't the only indication of demand right? Being sold out could be a indication of low supply or high demand, or in this a mix of both. Besides, no matter how high the demand is, if I company can't stock something they can't earn a penny on it. Seems that XSS is much easier to produce and stock and those consoles sitting on the shelves are all potential sales Vs no potential for consoles which can't be produced and stocked.

When they're available, they sell out completely. And they're still selling more than the S even in weeks when there's only 350 Series X available in the entire country.

How is it tracking against the Switch? Most popular could mean out of available options as well. Still far cry from predictions that it would be discontinued soon.
