A modder has been improving GTA Trilogy textures to make it look better

Modder nigeez is working on the GTA SA Project Texture Overhaul mod in an attempt to make the game look better than the version included in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

The mod won’t be changing every texture in the game, but instead aims to improve the ones that are most likely to get the player’s attention.

This includes the main roads, which have a new asphalt texture at up to 4K resolution.

It also includes new pavements and tiling around San Fierro and Los Santos, and some new sand, dirt, mud, concrete and rock textures.

In all there are 85 completely new textures, and nigeez says there’s still “a lot more work to do” but that the project continues to be a work in progress.

There's plenty of texture mod packs being made, I don't see what's special about these ones say compared to ones that went and found the master textures from the original games.

Still looks bad. Especially when you take into consideration how much better GTA IV (a game that is 2 generations old), still looks better than the DE.

I mean cool and all but the textures in this game are the way they are because it fits the visual palette of a PS2 game upgrade

Chucking some 4K road textures you bought in Unreal Engine on it will just make it look worse

Considering how much Grove Street Games messed everything up, this is wrong, because they've been accused of NOT preserving the original looks properly.

This should be embaressing for Take2. No wonder they dispatch DMCAs like its nothing on mods that are related to their games. Zelnick and his legal team should get their heads out of their asses and figure out a way to co-operate with the community instead.

Well.. I guess these fucked up textures fits the much fucked up characters even more than the remastered fucked up textures now.

Hum but that's one of those mods where it's obviously a big no: the colors and tones are all fucked all over if not gone and that's one of the biggest aspect of those games

Slapping HD textures into a game does not always make it look better.

They have to fit the aesthetic of the game.

This is well done. The textures are a good match for the original art style and aren't jarring compared to the basic geometry of the time. Also holy shit this guy can play Mario 64.

This is a horror show, Jesus Christ.

LOL I thought maybe modding had declined since a majority continue to be the same old games from a decade a ago, but as usual they continue to amaze. Hell, some have been hired at CDPR and now this mod looks great. Fcking AAA is an absolute dumpster fire, maybe DICE should drop some mod support so they can get the fck out of the way and let actual talent fix their shit.

the textures are not really the issue. it is almost exclusively the bugs and the updated meshes for objects, buildings and characters that are the big issue

this looks great!

and not to burst your bubble, but what you see in that video is not someone actually playing, this is clearly a TAS bot doing the inputs
