Luigi Mansion does sell alot more than people think.

Getting the following visually

In terms of actual games: the person is right but they are excluding like gift cards for mtx. its basically the area that Sony/MS are killing Nintendo on.
Ah so people go physical on Nintendo platforms because of the insane used game market

Didn’t expect to see such domination, but it’s not that surprising really when you think about it. Switch is a current platform almost in the category of 100+ million consoles sold worldwide, so of course people are buying games for it, games that aren’t available on other platforms. On the contrary, it would be weird not to see so many Switch games here.

Makes total sense really when you think about it. Switch is still in it's prime while Sony and MS are in a transition phase, a difficult one at that, with low availability of the systems, not to mention that a significant portion of these next gen machines are digital only. Most Series X owners that are interested in Forza or Halo probably have gamepass and didn't need to buy physical versions either. CoD and BF both kinda suck this year and a large portion of the playerbase prefers Activision's and EA's F2P offerings such as Warzone and Apex Legends. There's no real PS5 exclusive this holiday since Horizon II was delayed to next year. When you factor all these things it not very surprising that Nintendo games dominate the physical sales at Amazon. If you look at the top 3 items though they are $10 gift cards for each of the big three and Nintendo is third in that regard.

What is the point of this thread? Obviously Switch is popular. And Nintendo being shit at digital marketplace, people naturally gravitate toward physical copies.

But I wouldn't be surprised even if this was compared to digital sales on playstation/xbox. Nintendo games are just much more mainstream, and closer to free to play mobile games in that regard.

Nintendo games do not resemble free to play mobile games

It's very interesting how starting in 2014 the top of the list is consistently a digital currency card. PlayStation card has been number 1 all but one year since. This year the top 6 are all currency cards for the systems and freaking Roblox.

The transition phase definitely plays a part. You can see the decline in sales on the last-gen machines when numbers get release, the buying energy is steadily reducing there as players prepare to move on. Not to diminish Nintendo, they have always done a great job selling their software to the base. Looks like another great year for them.

We discuss sales data all the time in this forum. And data from Amazon, the largest retailer in North America, should carry some weight. Plus it's the end of the year, it makes it more interesting to see what Americans are buying in 2021

I think this speaks more of stock issues than anything.

Data throughout 2021 suggests when ever there was stock you would see games from Xbox/Sony charting.

They do in a way that they are much more mainstream and approachable to non-gamer audiences. That was my point. I did not want to insinuate they are like f2p mobile game in terms of quality or anything.
If they were "non-gamers" then they wouldn't be buying video games. Comparing them to f2p mobile games doesn't make sense since some mobile games are popular and some are not. It would be more accurate to say they are games with wide mainstream appeal like FIFA, Madden or Call of Duty.

Really not surprised by this list. PlayStation and Xbox users skew heavily to digital games. Premium consoles and a premium Ethernet experience. Nintendo consoles are loaded to brim with casuals, children who need physical presents for Christmas.
How to goad someone into getting banned without stepping over the line yourself.

Nice try, mate.

You know Microsoft is generating more gaming revenue than Nintendo? Where is that revenue coming from? Hardware? First party software sales?

You know that Sony is like generating 60% more revenue than Nintendo? Where is that from? Hardware sales? First party software sales? Or mtx/DLC revenue f?

Do you have proof that MS actually has more gaming revenue? All data I got from Google put Nintendo slightly ahead of MS. Not that it would make any big different, MS gaming rev and Nintendo's are pretty close, but would just like to see your data where MS has more

MS has been very creative with their revenue model whether it's subs, gaming pass, hardware, 1st party, 3rd party software, and Minecraft (which continues to be a monster seller)

Nintendo is the most conservative of the bunch: their revenue is mostly hardware and first party software. Then 3rd party software and now they're slowly growing their online

MS is sadly still an 'approximation' because it's been based on constant calculations of YoY growth
Last Q: $3,593.00M (https://workingcasual.com/microsofts-xbox-division-records-best-first-quarter-sales-ever/)
Q Before that: $3,74.00M (https://workingcasual.com/microsofts-xbox-division-sets-new-annual-sales-record-in-2021/)
SO Last 2Q $7,307.00

These numbers in line with what the other analyst have.

Nintendo
Nintendo Last 2Q's 624272JPY which equals $5,647.70M using the conversation rates at the end of each Q

*1. Nintendo Switch platform includes hardware, software (including downloadable versions of packaged software,
download-only software, add-on content and Nintendo Switch Online) and accessories.
*2. Includes platforms other than Nintendo Switch and also amiibo.
*3. Includes income from smart-device content and royalty income.

I have similar numbers; slightly smaller actually. I also might be using too harsh a JPY conversion rate but i end up with the following graph..

Happy to be corrected cause i want to make sure the numbers are right.

Your data seems correct, MS has around 7.3B in the past 2 quarters vs Nintendo 5.6B

There's a quite jump in MS revenue 2 quarters. They completed their Zenimax acquisition in March 2021, so Zenimax revenue is now rolled into MS gaming division. Prior to acquisition, Zenimax has approx 500M annual revenue

How is that possible when Nintendo is selling a ton more consoles, their games are selling much more than competitors and their games maintain high msrps for much longer than their competitors? Is it due to the subscriptions that ms and Sony sell? Nintendo is still far behind on that. But everywhere else they're killing Sony and ms.

I have all consoles and love them all specially PlayStation consoles.
I just think hilarious compare gift cards with a retail game.

You can see my history of posts here, i like games and i do some stupid jokes and gifs about console wars or fanboys. On every console.

I don't give a sh** about ms, sony or nintendo. I just want their games!

Third party developers/publishers pay MS/Sony/Nintendo for each game they sell on their platforms. Given a whole lot more 3rd party devs supporting PS and Xbox, it's easy to see how Sony and MS can have higher revenue even though their 1st party games revenue is lower than Nintendo.

For Nintendo consoles I almost always buy physical because Nintendo games retain resale value better than any other system. For XBox, I just rock GP. There's no need to buy games period. For PlayStation, I just buy PSN cards.

I think it's partially stuff like xbox live/gamepass but it's going to be mainly fortnite/fifa mtx which two people clearly don't agree with.

Just saw the strength or lack of of the JPY in comparison to the USD or GBP, more confident in the fact that when we compare numbers that Xbox is going to make more revenue than Nintendo.
