Long Long Ago…

“A few years back, Hidetaka Miyazaki and his incredible team of game designers, the creators of the DARK SOULS videogame series, reached out from Japan to ask me to help them create the backstory and history for a new game they were working on. Now, video games are not really my thing — oh, I played a few back in the dawn of time, mainly strategy games like RAILROAD TYCOON, ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS, and MASTER OF ORION — but this offer was too exciting to refuse. Miyazaki and his team from FromSoftware were doing groundbreaking stuff with gorgeous art, and what they wanted from me was just a bit of worldbuilding: a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as a foundation for the game they planned to create. And as it happens, I love creating worlds and writing imaginary history.
So I did my bit, and handed off to my new friends in Japan, and they took it from there. And years passed. Videogames are as big as movies these days (bigger, actually)… and take just as long to create.
But the day of ELDEN RING is finally at hand.
And I’ve got to say, it looks incredible.”

ELDEN RING will be released on February 25, 2022.

Sorry but this is equivalent to every "Influencer"(who was paid mind you) to say, "[insert AAA game] is AWESOME"

I would venture to guess it has less to do with him having any interest in games or From games and more to do with having very good agents representing him.
More like he has people that tell him who is worth working with.
I seriously doubt he would have written a back story to a Ubisoft or EA game, especially when Miyazaki is renown for his world building / design in the game industry.

There’s a book coming out in Japan called “The Overture of Elden Ring”. I really hope it gets a English translation. So much to get excited about.. the game of course, but we also have the Edge magazine interview with some more info.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Got is overated as hell
Got is a fantastic series.

The saddest thing is the last season prevented the show to be a cult classic because it was so stupid made by those two idiots instead of George.

Lore needs correct me if I'm wrong here but my interpretation seems to be that the Elden Ring is not a literal ring but a council of demi gods? And Godwyn was assassinated by a mysterious force which caused the elderly ring to essentially break apart and then all the demi gods decided to go to war, presumably because they all think one of their council was the perpetrator?

I'm guessing Godwyn the Golden was the peace keeper, the one keeping the Elden Ring together?

And now I want to see Martin do Elden Ring Let's Play videos on YouTube.

Wonder how much his input here really was. More than a page or two with scribbled notes just to have his name attached to it?

Hey, he’ll have you know that he had to work for 7 and a half years for that page and a half of scribbled notes….he barely had time to eat and go to the bathroom he was writing so fast.

Sure. But it sounds like they sent him a thoughtful request along with some artwork.

I'm sure that art was killer. And from the sound of it, they asked just the right amount of work from him. World building and no further commitment.

"I'd rather be writing rather pointless advertorial blog posts about something I had minimal input in, than actually doing my fucking job of writing novels that I have already been handsomely well paid for."

So, I hate to even write this, but are you one to believe everything you read on the internet is true?
You're right. I would also argue that fromSoft is not making this game. I mean, all we have is their logo and word. Who knows what Chinese developer is actually developing it, right?

my guy is never going to finish his own series at this rate. Dude is what, mid 70s age wise? it takes him like 10-15 years per book and theres 2 to go.

it's kind of crazy to me to think I was single with no kids when the last book came out like, 10 years ago?
