Titles added to Xbox Game Pass in 2021 were reportedly worth over $6,300

I just started it now and it feels like I stole Halo Infinite when I didn't. Let alone thousands of dollars in other games.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

How is it even legal ....

but jokes aside, even if you don't use the Gold to GPU conversion and just pay the flat $9.99 per month, just 2 MS published games on day 1 will offset the price you pay in a year. Not even accounting for anything else that goes on, or is already present. It really is a good value for money.

While I didn't play 6300 worth of games on it this year, I certainly played more than I paid, had I bought all the ones I did play separately.

Yes, but its also really easy to stack up on codes during sales, holidays, etc. there is also microsoft rewards which I haven't messed with but people seem to get a lot of value out of that and pay for gamepass with it.

MS Rewards is what makes Game Pass indispensable to me. Using Rewards points alone, Game Pass is currently paid until the end of May 2022 and I've also used points to buy Dolby Access as well as The Witcher 2 (Xbox 360). And with all that, by the time Game Pass expires next year there will already be enough points to pay for another 9 months. That is a ton of value for few minutes effort every day getting Rewards points. And the Rewards quests actually make it pretty fun as well.

If you can't see the difference between 2013 and 2021 (almost 2022) that's on you.

A lot of what yhey proposed back then, would have made for a healthier (digital) future now.

The problem was that Microsoft tried to force physical games to play by the same rules as digital games. That was a mistake and it damaged the reputation of Xbox. Turns out it was needless as consumers started gravitating towards digital games anyway. But yeah, quite a bit different scenario back then versus today.

The only reason they had to impose those policies were due to digital trade in an licensing.

Sure we are all past it now, but we could be 10 years ahead of where we are now with digital ownership if not for that pushback

It's going to end in the same place, people just made it take longer to get there.

That part all sounded good back then, but I doubt digital trade in would have ever become a thing regardless. MS couldn't force publishers to adopt those policies and I don't think they ever will. There is no value in a digital license to a publisher after the sale.

If they offered it for themselves 3rd parties would have to follow. Similar to how they do refunds now, and 3rd parties seem OK with it.

If I bought it within 2 weeks and didn't play significant time, they give me my money back

No they just give me my money back

They would have had more options under the other way. I could have sold it to a friend or traded them lixenses

Edit I forgot Sony doesn't offer digital refunds

On Xbox, if you buy a game digital and don't like it you can get a full refund.

My bad for forgetting that not all digital gamers have the option.

Sorry....I'm not following. Who offers to give you your money back now for digital licenses? Or are you just talking hypothetical?

No I literally bought NBA 2K22 the other night didn't enjoy it and got my money back from MS .

They offer full refunds as long as you bought it less than 2 weeks ago and didn't pump a bunch of hours into it.

Instead of them giving me a full refund I would have transferred that game to a friend as a gift, if the option was available like they first suggested

You really don't understand the word refund, and we can get it from digital purchases?

Sony got U trained.

My mistake. I obviously missed where you changed the subject and started talking about refunds.

Sony got U trained.

Are you not able to have a civil conversation without resorting to nonsense like this?

Regardless, a reminder of what Microsoft proposed back in 2013:

Microsoft-Published Games

For the games Microsoft publishes, Microsoft Studios will allow you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games to used game stores. There are caveats:

  • You can only give Xbox One games to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days.
  • Each game can only be given once.
  • Anyone can play your games on your console -- regardless of whether you are logged in.
  • Microsoft allows you to gift games to friends but they can't "borrow" them. Microsoft says of this, "loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."
  • Xbox One will also allow you to give up to 10 family members access to "log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One."
  • You can always play your games, but only one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

Third Party-Published Games

Third party publishers, like Activision, Ubisoft and Square-Enix, however, may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this arrangement. Third party publishers also have the choice whether to allow you to give games to friends or not.

This was an amazing year for Game Pass. Games like MLB The Show '21, The Ascent, FS2020(console), Psychonauts 2, AoE4 IV, FH5, and Halo Infinite. Then tons of AA and indie games. Plus perks like free Crunchyroll and Youtube Premium. It's hard to beat the value you get from GP Ultimate with Gold and GP Xbox+PC+xCloud rolled into a single sub. I recently re-upped for 3yrs for only $165. Also did 1yr for each of my boys for their PC+Xbox setups. It's become our main way of playing games.

The Yakuza games are a huge one for me

About to beat Yakuza 0 and start like a dragon

Yakuza 0 is top 3 story I’ve encountered in a game. Honestly might be #1.

Love it...Now keep adding more espeically since FF games besides 10/12 are all gone and the yakuza games are going (I really shoulda played these)

Never thought I would survive with a series x and gamepass. I’ve only bought resident evil village and it takes two on the Xbox this year and I could have just waited for it takes two lol.

That's where the missed opportunities come in. In 2013 the publishers wanted digital to take off and seemed more than willing to sweeten the pot to make that happen. Now they know that the majority will go digital without the perks, so we'll never get said perks. If gamers had accepted the digital future back then, we might have a much better digital marketplace now. We shot ourselves in the foot and lost our leverage. It is what it is.

No, it was draconian what they wanted back then. They bring it in now and all of a sudden it is perfectly fine? Admittedly they didn't bring back ALL they tried to implement at the pre launch of the One but still, this is very similar to what they wanted almost 10 years.

I was fine with it then and I’m still fine with it now. 🤷‍♂️

None of it affected me in any way as I don’t buy and trade in games. I did lose some of the upsides of it, but it is what it is.

I need to look into it. I just checked and I have 23k points and I don't even know how lol I think its just from using the edge browser on my PC.

Are the reward's quests in actual games?

No, not in the actual games. There are some weekly sets in Rewards app. There are also individual game quests on your profile page. Hit Xbox button on controller, RB over to "Profile & system" and go into your profile. At the top you will see "Welcome", "Social", and "Gaming". Go into Gaming and then on the left side you will see "Game Pass Quests".

Looks like this:

That's not my profile in case anyone is wondering. Just pulled it off a google image search. But it is kind of like a regular achievement. But if you do enough of those a month you'll get a bonus of 1000 points. Typically that is done by doing 15 weekly quests and 45 daily. You see examples of the weekly there. Daily can be as simple as logging into your Game Pass app on your phone or playing a Game Pass game.

I bought an S at launch with gamepass and literally haven't bought a single game in over a year. $5 a month for GamePass Ultimate with all the titles that have been launched has been a steal. Plus, I have little kids who burn through games and Gamepass has been a godsend.

Gamepass is 100000% a system seller.

It’s a pretty good deal, anyone saying otherwise are either delusional or have an agenda.
Well, I`m on the fence because I own the 360/one games I want, 1.000 Gamepass titles I won`t touch do nothing for me and I could buy Halo and Forza for 45€/ each.
On the other hand I could get two years gamepass for 90€ (45€/year) and Starfield is coming.
I never buy games at release at full price.

Good deal for ~50€/ year ->maybe.
Best deal in gaming for 180€/year... certainly not for me.

You might be surprised. I would take a test drive and see if you like it.

Before GP I had slowly started just playing old favorites and the new entries in series I was already familiar with. Once I started looking at GP more I started playing a lot of titles that I wouldn't have and trying a lot of the smaller games and having a lot of fun. It has reinvigorated my gaming spirit so to speak. I've seen others say the same, makes me think you have to try it for a while to judge the value.

Would be cool if GamePass had a stats page personally for users, that showed time spent on GamePass games, and the amount of money a gamer would have spent to buy all of the games played.

You know big fans would treat it like some extra sort of GamerScore and would show it off online too. Would need to put some sort of threshold on games to make it so playing for a few seconds didn't add that value to your account otherwise people would pump it up lol

MS would likely never do the above though.... it'd just be endlessly pointed out as misleading.

$6300, and not a single game in that offering is better than God of War or Bloodborne which are both free if you get a PS5.
Do you really want to bring those here?

If you want to troll around, I can give you all elder scrolls, and fallout series from gamepass. That is what you get, when you have xbox console.

On a serious note, you need ps+ to get those ps5 games. Its the same thing as gamepass games. It will go away, once your sub runs out.

I've definitely gotten my money's worth from Halo and Forza Horizon 5 alone. Everything else is just GALLONS OF DELICIOUS GRAVY!!!

That would be a fun idea, I can see that being something that would get shared around a lot. One snafu might be when you had users that didn't game as often but kept up their GP subscription, the app would basically be pointing out that they weren't using it much. :messenger_tears_of_joy: But I doubt that would ever come up often. Like you said, to keep the numbers true you'd have weed out the games where someone just completed a GP quest and then never touched it again.
