Compared to the last 2 weeks, the PS5 did much better. But its still a horrible result, considering its down YOY. The worst part is the non-existant software, for sure.

As for the Switch, its doing REALLY well for a 5 year old system for sure, but it does seem to have peaked. We will see how it will decline, because depending how it goes, it still have a high chance of being the best selling system in Japan.

Everyone still getting nintendOWNED in japan. Would have at least expected a couple of PS4 releases it's getting close to new year when the main holidays are for japan.

But I was assured last week's numbers were an indication of demand. Go on give me another laugh, I guess this week's numbers represent demand too?

As usual pathetic stock issued to Japan but at least up on last week.

Switch is officially in decline. Guess they need to think about a price drop. Decent numbers for Xbox.
They just released a more expensive model, I can't see them cutting the price until holiday 2022 at the earliest. They could do some more bundles though.
Is Nintendo making more OLED units or is that becoming the more popular Switch?
Right now OLED is the most popular model, which makes sense as it only launched a couple of months ago. We'll have to see whether that stays the case the deeper we get into 2022.

There is because they serve different functions and aren’t direct competitors.

It’s like comparing cell phones to consoles cause they both play games
The smartphone market and consoles are very different. Whereas the PS4, PS5, Switch and Xbox Series all operate in the same market as they are all dedicated video game devices, which is why these are the platforms that video trackers measure and compare.

I’d say the switch and the iPhone have more in common than the switch and the ps and xbox
How so? The only similarity is that you can easily carry them around. Switch and the PS5 and Xbox Series are are dedicated video game devices while the iPhone is not. The $60 and $70 games that drive engagement those devices are not the same as what drives engagement with iPhones. There's a reason pretty much all video game industry bodies, trackers and analysts put Switch in the same category as PS5 and Xbox Series, while Android phones and iPhone are in a very separate category.

So why is it that when we start saying, “why does the switch feel so inferior performance wise, or graphically, why is it missing so many features even last gen consoles had, why does it not do x” the excuse is always because it is a portable console?

Then, when we start talking about sales and mindshare all of a sudden the switch is a home console leaving microsoft and sony in the dust?

It’s like theres an agenda surrounding nintendo that people use to downplay or push some narrative about whatever console they dislike. Unlike the xbox and playstation there is very little actual crossover in software between the nintendo. They pretty much specialize in 1st party games and smaller AA and indie, while the other companies focus primarily on 3rd party software.

It makes no sense to me otherwise

Well with the Switch Lite it rarely outsold the Switch OG, even right after its launch. Some of that may have been due to supply, but by the middle of the following year the OG was easily outselling the Lite. I am a little surprised with the OLED model being so popular, since it is also more expensive and not much of an upgrade.

I’ll never understand comparing the sales of a handheld to a home console
The Switch is both. We can compare the PS5 to the Wii U and it doesn't paint a better picture for the PS5.

Because both things can be true. Switch is inferior graphically to Xbox One and outsold it worldwide. You can make many statements like this:

1. PS2 was inferior graphically to GameCube and Xbox and outsold them
2. PS4 was superior graphically to 3DS and outsold it
3. Wii was inferior graphically to Xbox 360 and outsold it
4. Xbox 360 was superior graphically to 3DS and outsold it

None of those statements have an agenda, all are true.

In regards to the third part comment, its true that there's not too much crossover from Western publishers. But from Japanese publishers there is now quite a large crossover in output between PlayStation and Switch.

I’m not seeing it. The biggest japanese games of this year on playstation aren’t on switch and vice versa.

Monster hunter rise - switch
SMTV - switch
Bravely Default 2- switch
No More Heroes 3- switch
Monster Hunter stories 2 - switch
Disgaea 6- switch (us)

Tales of Arise - playstation
Resident evil 8 - playstation
Demon Salyer- playstation
Guilty Gear- playsation
FF7 Intergrade - Playsation
Nioh 2- Playstation
Yakauza - playstation

Nintendo and Sony aren’t in any sort of bidding war over exclusive japanese software. Not like microsoft and sony is for western software. Usually when japanese publishers make switch games they make them specifically for nintendo hardware.

The generational gap and utility of the switch make this almost stupid to compare hardware wise so why compare them sales wise?

I know it won't happen and Nintendo hardly ever likes to give away things for free. But I wish they would do something like Sega did with the Saturn 3 game desperation pack back in 96?

Nintendo switch packaged with Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey and something else, and keep the price of the Switch the same. It would be funny to see how many more Switch units they could crank out. The fact that they haven't had to use this type of technique is amazing. But it's something they could do when the decline starts.
