I've decided to sell the thing, not keeping something you don't use is a sound philosophy to me. If i was so high on RDR 1 i would have played it at some point since i got my PS5.

A month or two ago
I sold a bunch of bits and bobs on a Japanese version of ebay and found myself with sufficient credit on the website to cover a brand new XSS. I pounced.

As I waited for it to arrive, I found out the good news: that quite apart from being an underpowered contemporary console, it was actually a wonderfully powerful emulation machine! With some contemporary games attached.

Anyway, I have had a nice month with the thing. I installed Retroarch and eventually got it working, I play a fair few PS2 and gamecube titles (and PSP games in HD), and I've actually played a bit of the Halo Master Chief collection and Red Dead Redemption the First, which I can't seem to find on the playstation store.

But something happened about two weeks ago that has somewhat spoiled my love affair with the little white box. I got a PS5.

The 'bits and bobs' that netted me an XSS turned out to only be a portion of the old tech I was actually willing to sell, and I was able to raise enough through selling a GoPro here and a high def MP3 player there, and my ps4 pro, to snag a PS5 at scalper's prices (I live in Japan, it's statistically impossible to buy a PS5 retail here*, don't judge me, on the plus side I haven't seen another one up for that price since)

And, uh, ever since I got my PS5 my XSS has been entirely untouched. I'm sorry, XSS, I have really enjoyed you but the PS5 is just... your daddy. I won't go further into that because this thread isn't about that.

I'm torn. It's brand new, it cost a lot, it's nice and it can possibly give me access to some good games in future. On the other hand...

It's not holding my attention anymore. I can sell it for a good amount along with a second controller and charge stand. On the other hand, Starfield and TES6 are, I ain't gonna lie, interesting titles. But they're like the only ones I might be interested in, and I don't trust Bethesda, and they could be years away. So.

I'm moving house in a month or so and I'm thinking of selling my XSS to buy a platoon of shelving units from IKEA.

Aught I? Or aughtn't I?

*that could be true but i don't actually know, I'm just saying it for effect

ps. You wish to post "lol i'm not gonna give u an opinion", just don't post lol, it's a fucking forum lower ur standards

If you play a fair amount of retro and want to skip having those consoles, keep it. Just because you didn't in the last month is hardly an indicator.

I keep my Wii plugged in because it is a good retro console for my needs (outputs 240p and all) that way I can keep my SNES, GBA, Mega Drive, etc unplugged. I don't use it a lot, but I do when I want to.

I have no experience in XSS but I’m pretty sure you’ll have more fun with that than an IKEA shelf, keep it as a living room emulation box and get Gamepass cheap and leach on whatever MS put out, then buy a XSX once you can afford it and enjoy the gaming bliss that comes from having both big consoles 🤗

Depends on your money and what games you like. You like some (upcoming) Microsoft games or you want dirt cheap 3rd party games from Eneba.com? Keep the S. You don't mind spending full price on PS5 3rd parties and you are sure you won't touch the S in the next months? Sell it.

Keep it. Don't buy any games for it. Just subscribe to game pass when you feel like it for Avowed, Elder Scrolls, Perfect Dark, etc/whatever
That’s exactly what I’m doing. I haven’t played it for like 6 months because my Switch/PSN backlog is immense. The moment I clear that, I’m back to resubscribing to gamepass and catching up.

Don’t sell it, OP.

If your need the money sell it, if you don't need the money keep it for when you feel like playing a game on it. Get game pass and there are loads of games to play.

to snag a PS5 at scalper's prices
Oh bro...

With the money the guy made, he will buy another PS5 and scam someone else. Eventually, he will have made enough money to buy two PS5. And scam two people. And then, three etc...

Having a PS5 does not make the Series S less interesting. The console has all the emulators you seem to have enjoyed, they are not going anywhere. You don't have to sell whatever thing you are not using for a couple weeks or a month you know. I have a Wii U at home that is precisely my emulation machine, I am not using it all the time, but I am happy to have it when I feel like playing some GC or Mega-CD or whatever.

Console has a ton of BC games that you will never get on PS5. As well as the Xbox exclusives, of course. And if you are interested in something in GamePass, at any moment you can take a month of subscription and try it. And I don't think that Series S is the one taking the most room in your house.

I’d keep it if you intend to use Game Pass. It’s otherwise less an issue but the honeymoon phase will pass.

I bought my S a couple of months after the PS5 and despite already having a decent PC. I still use it quite a bit and it’s purely due to GP.

My tv and gaming setup is on a row of metal IKEA cabinets, if they did a bookshelf sized one I'd hit dat in a trice
I use garage lockers for storage and they have holes for cables which is the best solution I got due to the plethora of mini systems I own. Setup is not done as I need to put concrete panels on walls but it gives an idea. Plus I like that they lock since I often have dodgy people over.

why sell it unless your in need of the money? might aswell keep it and have access to more games. unless you also game on PC aswell?
i do, though mostly for RTWP and age of empires 4 atm

it's just a lot of money to be sitting, unused, on my metal ikea cabinet

If you want to limit your gaming options, go for it, and sell it.

Ms 1st party aren't the only thing on gamepass. 3rd party day1 games also gets dropped on.

Stalker 2 is coming soon this February. You might like that game.

If you have no interest in those games at all, sell your console.

Just sell it. Starfield is set for November 2022 and it will probably take another year for it to get all the bugs and bullshit out. You can rebuy again at that time or just get an X which (IMO) has way more value any way with the bigger SSD, better performance and disc drive.

Wouldn't selling the PS5 give you more cash for your Kalax, Eket and/or Bergshults???

If I could be bothered I'd upload pictures of my metal Ikea shelves.

Nice try, dude, I see you trying to flex with your 4 Series X's

Still better looking than that white PS5 monstrosity. Disk version is the laziest design from Sony I ever seen...

I wouldn’t sell it, unless I had a good PC or a Series X.
He should sell and buy an X or PC. Probably X, if he's primarily a console player.

Word. Sell S, buy X later when proper big games he's interested in will release.
