Can they stop with Returnal on constant top 3? It’s very triggering.

Insane to see a coop game as the number one. Well deserved and more power to these kind of games.

I don't think I will put Unpacking in my top10, but there is something great about EG having the guts to do that, because the game is legit great.

Yeah it’s an interesting pick. And you know what I played yesterday only because the kids wanted it and then ended up really enjoying?
Leo’s Fortune on Apple TV 😅

I think Halo Infinite being number 2 followed by unpacking makes alot of sense. The campaign felt very much like it was the gaming equivalent of cardboard, anyone who's played a Far Cry past 2 would feel right at home.

Its nice to see somewhere correctly rating Hitman 3 in something and not Deathloop since Hitman 3 is essentially a better Deathloop, it's a shame its Eurogamer so it means nothing though.

Halo Infinite hitting the mark yet again, it's only the beginning as well with so much to come.
They managed a campaign mode on par with the genre defining first game with a modern take and the perfectly balanced multiplayer that matched Bungies best.
Can't wait to see it expand.

I'm willing to bet money that the people crying about the list haven't played through every single game on it.

I'm looking at it thinking, there are some great potential games I completely missed this year whereas other people are seeing those same games as a threat. Why are we in this hobby again?

Yeah, these lists have been great to make me aware of games I didn’t know about:

The procession of calvary
Death trash
Unpacking
Artful escape
Unavowed
Cyber shadow
Chicory
Death’s Door
The forgotten city

Each of them looks to be lovely stuff. That’s what awards are for. To give relevance to good stuff that’s not at the surface for numerous reasons.

Unpacking is a good game but putting it #1 is bit of a snowflake moment.

But I haven't read Eurogamer since Bramwell and other actual journalists left the site.

No disrespect, but it sounds like what you are saying is that 343 have managed to make a game on par with one that came out generations ago. Bungie were genre defining (still are in a way), but 343 are copy and paste in my opinion.
Saying that, Halo Infinite campaign is not on par was the original Halo - not even close. The original Halo will always have a special place in my memory.
I admire your passion for everything Microsoft, but this sounds like hyperbole to me. The kids have moved on now, to play Fortnite, a multiplayer fps that has actually moved the genre forward. All 343 have done is add a grappling hook.

Strange not to see Deathloop on the list as it has two black leads which they should absolutely love and praise the game just for that.

I was there on Xbox launch night with the console and Halo, you don't need to tell me anything about it, also kids playing Fortnite is irrelevant to what 343 managed to produce.
The original game gave you set ways and weapons to approach any given situation, it was normally just before an encounter. This game gives you the freedom to approach it how you see fit with no right or wrong way, that's what I love about it, nothing copy and paste about it.
As for the multiplayer it is on a par with the best Halo ever.

I kept thinking unpacking was 12 minutes starring the green goblin.

Had not heard of it. Just got chicory, deaths door, and a bunch of other stuff last night in the ps sale.

Don't give them clicks. I know its tempting to check out everyone's end of year lists, but this year I'm making a point of swerving people/sites who's opinions I know I'm going to find disagreeable. Why validate them with your attention?

All I’m saying is that the only redeeming feature of Halo Infinite is the same gameplay beat Bungie created in the original Halo. Every open world shooter allows you the freedom to approach an encounter any way you see fit, with Far Cry 6 being the latest example.
I don’t believe 343 have brought anything new or original to the fps genre.

Far Cry 6 doesn't have the gameplay loop or tight shooting mechanics, the pronounce difference of weapons, the variety in enemies or even a hint of the AI. It's a pretty lazy take to compare Infinite to that.
343 have brought something new to Halo, that's what is important.

Eurogamer has been the drizzling shits, top-to-bottom, for literally years. That's my opinion, so why should I care what they think?

Just saying, its nothing to do with this year's product or the games scene specifically, its about not wasting my time entertaining the opinions of those who I have no respect for. Especially because doing so out of habit or "tradition" just preserves the status quo, and honestly I want change. The enthusiast press has always been kinda sketchy, but this latest super-politicized generation is fucking atrocious.

I wasn’t comparing it in the way that you are suggesting. I‘m just trying to point out that 343 have taken Halo 1 and put it in an open world and added a grappling hook.
Bungie Halo games had special moments, some fairly open, that allowed you the freedom to approach them in any way you wanted. I’m not sure 343 are capable of creating those moments.

Could be worse. They could be Nickelback tshirts…
Nickelback are a little later and only really an internet meme in the UK. The sort of retro shirts I would respect from that era would be Gary Numan or Hawkwind because the UK music press hated them.

Unpacking is a solid game, but Eurogamer lost most of its "gamer journalists" a while back and hired blog writers and such, so that's why half the list are more laid back easy indie games, because half that staff doesn't actually play that many games, unless it's laid back indie games.

All good games, but really strange order imo. Also missing Psychonauts 2 which feels like a strange omission.
