Meanwhile: EA Director of Comms for Shooters Comments on Battlefield 2042 Silence; Says Expectations Are “Brutal”

Not happy with the current state of Battlefield 2042? Eager to hear what DICE has planned for the shooter this 2022? If so, you’re not alone.
While we’re just in the first week of the new year, that hasn’t stopped BF2042 players and members of the community to ask DICE and EA just what is happening with the game.

Unfortunately, some of these people might have asked in a rather not-so-nice way, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Over on Twitter, Global Director of Integrated Comms for Shooters & Star Wars at EA Andy McNamara acknowledged the silence from DICE and EA, though also comments how the studio isn’t in yet, and how fan expectations are “brutal” in a now-deleted tweet:

andy-mcnamara-tweet.jpg

While McNamara has a point in that DICE devs have to rest and get back from vacation, the players who purchased and are playing (or have played) Battlefield 2042 have a point as well.
Communication regarding the game, future updates, and other stuff haven’t exactly been on-point, which further adds to the community’s frustration.

Maybe stop using customers as QA? Im not a game designer or dev. but maybe, just maybe you play the game you are selling to see it works first before spending millions on marketing and using streamer slaves.

LOL, I just realized that was GI former EIC. He like other honest jounos no problem taking that $$$$$ and completely change their attitude.

Because it's way better game, I got BF 2042 for christmas and it's shit only thing good going for it, is the old maps through portal. Looks like something sewed in 6 months honestly.

Also fuck off Andy, as far as I know BF V had single player campaign, so what kind of ((scope)) are we talking about? Try harder

I hate to harp on this game but they deserve this failure. That beta was evidence enough for me not to buy this broken un-battlefield mess.

Further more, it's over. This is a multiplayer only game and normally if you don't make good impressions or change quickly for the better is a death sentence. They should abandon this mess and put their resources towards another game and not release another broken game. EA/DICE simply don't learn from their mistakes and I'm glad to see players not entertain this bullshit because nobody should at $69.99.

Expect it on PS+ or Gamepass before June I'd say.

They had three years to work on it. They had five studios helping them out full time. They had no single player to focus on. And they still fucked it up.

I also dont know what gamers expect them to fix aside from some bugs. The game is shit. It is poor on all fronts. Bad classes. Bad maps. Poor modes. How the fuck do you leave out operations for two games in a row after it brought you so much success in BF1?

This shit is unsalvagable just like BFV was.

What an asshole. He should be calling the devs brutal.

Maybe if EA/Dice launched a better game in November, there wouldnt be a crash course in patches and gamers expecting more fixes with Christmas around the corner.

He's correct in pointing out crunches and customer expectations/execs demands are bad, but 2042 is a shit show that shouldn't have released. This is an issue they are at least partly responsible for. They need to pay attention.

Work culture at DICE is not players responsibility. Releasing a broken game to paying customers is also not players responsibility.

- Players didn't institute crunch
- Players didn't pick a premature release date
- Players didn't give the go ahead to release a broken game

Take some responsibility for your actions, don't blame the players and maybe look at your own leadership for what went wrong.

This is misleading.

There is 1 time of day where BFV has more players. Im not sure why exactly, maybe its a large group of players from one region who suddenly jump on at that time. But for most of the day BF2042 still has quite a few more players.

Not saying its doing well but that tweet is straight up disinformation.

Just imagine if you bought a new car and it had issues day one.

You're already pissed and bring it into the shop waiting for repairs under warranty.

You keep getting the run around about delays, parts on order and with Christmas coming, your car wont be ready until some TBD date.

And to top it off, the service guy at the counter goes on Twitter and calls you and all the others with issues brutal customers.

Worse yet you take said car for a test drive (like we did in beta) bring up these issues to the dealer and he tells you these issues are in our demo unit but that shiny new car doesnt have them, yet its as broken as the demo unit

Wasn't this already posted? Maybe it was in the OT, I'm not sure.

Now where's the topic about how Forza Horizon 4 has more players than 5 in that same chart?

Also, that Tweet is stupid, but it's Twitter so it's no surprise.

What a stupid fucking tweet.

"The things you want take time to scope, design, and execute."

Are you serious, Andy? The community is rightfully pissed off because 2042 is a complete fucking disaster. You get no sympathy because the game should be 110% better than it is right now. Why should consumers have to wait for you to fix a broken product? Shouldn't they have got what they paid for in the first place?

They removed Rush from the playlists as well and put them in portal. Im sad I preordered this and will never do so again. This is very far from what I expected
It's pretty absurd, it's like they're completely clueless about their own IP. An IP that has a massive community behind it that has existed since its existence with 1942. Sure, employees have come and gone unfortunately, but all of that content and material is STILL there.

I don't preorder too often, but I typically DO preorder the few things I'm incredibly excited about, especially if there's an incentive. I figured after V that they'd come back even harder with 2042, and I was wrong. I don't think the game is AWFUL, but good God the game most certainly could and should be better than it is.

Get it right from the start then!!! Consult with oh I don’t know…….your god damn fans!?!?

Everyone for years has been saying either remake BFBC2 or make a successful successor, but no, suits know best. 😣
What they probably do is look at the revenues and see those old BFBC games selling fewer copies and it was during a time mtx wasnt rampant. So on their sales and profit charts it'll always be low compared to recent BF games.

They also realized shotgunning BF. BFBC, MOH, Warfighter and Crysis games are too many.

So it's all or nothing with Battlefield.

Right! And people aren't mad at the individual devs.. they're mad at EA & management for creating this whole situation in the first place.

Oh and whoever wanted this game to be a battle royale clown shooter, fk them

Numbers are still bad, but here is a chart that represents this better:

V being the green - 2042 the blue

Damn fine point actually regarding the MTXs.
Which is precisely why they went with specialists. Exactly what the consumer didn’t want.

EA/DICE have really missed the detail here. We don’t want Battlefield to become another COD. Battlefield can be so much more than it currently is. We have all this technology and computational power, but physics, destruction, weather, gameplay is going backwards not progressing at all.

Save the massive player counts for something like battlefront where you could potentially have land, air and space battles in a single map.

Battlefield would be better contained in to smaller maps, with destructible buildings, gameplay much tighter, reduce vehicles and put in dynamic weather, day/night cycles amazing physics etc. throwing 100’s of players into a space doesn’t make for good gameplay.

Battlefield for that last couple entries have all released broken and fixed up mostly after 4-6 months. People are fine to get pissed but don't act surprised they released a broken game. It's been their MO for a while with battlefield. Very much was noticable on battlefield 4 release.
