LTTP: Deep Rock Galactic (The best looter shooter you havent played)

There is a big group of gamers who grew up on classic coop shooters like Left 4 Dead. Aside from competitive multiplayer, it doesn't get much better than sitting in a room and shouting at each other to overcome odds that would be impossible alone. We might have replaced split-screen antics with long distance broadband, but I've found a game that recreates the fun and I am kicking my ass for missing out until now.

In DRG, you assume the role of a dwarf who loves to mine minerals and kill bugs. You have your choice of 4 specialists who play dramatically different from each other. For instance the scout specializes in long range, single target output, and using their lights to illuminate caves, while the driller has close range crowd control, and can tunnel quickly through anything. When playing as a full team with all four classes represented, you can overcome the games' obstacles with the combined kit.

The game features procedurally generated caves and caverns to explore, with no locale feeling similar. And the caves are predictably dark and disorienting to navigate without using lighting to your advantage. This brings me to something I really appreciate about the game. "Danger. Darkness. Dwarves". It's not often a game puts its mission statement front and center, and then perfectly executes this without bogging itself down in superfluous extras. Thats what this game is. A tight and tense coop shooter, that is unique and supremely fun to experience.

I dont know why I missed on this one. I think the Steam splash page looks like the worst elements of GaaS crap. I don't care much for Dwarves or fantasy based lore (but I wholly admit the world they created here is charming and funny as hell). And there is no easy way to convince people to buy this (it's uhhh...minecraft meets L4D...kind of). I promise though, the sum of its parts are bigger. The only caveat I have is you need a friend or two. Even then, this community prides itself on being above the rest, and in my limited time of playing pubs, I agree. Play this one now, instead of Aliens: Fireteam or Back 4 Blood.

Always liked the concept but i rarely play multy titles, especially on pc where i have no friends (all on console).

And this one looks like talking with your squad is very important and it's not the best with strangers.

I own on pc and played a bit on Xbox too (motherfucking game pass). It’s a good game and I can see the appeal of a solid coop shooter, but for some reason I kept falling off. Haven’t played in many months at this pony

Fantastic coop shooter. It has excellent pacing, where it's got this first few minutes of exploration and discovery, which then kind of shifts to mining and planning, and then exciting escape. It's really well done with solid art direction, great music, and infectious style. Very very fun, crossplay with Xbox/PC is a big plus and the game just keeps adding more and more content. Def. worth a pickup. Rock and Stone.

Tried it since it came with PS+ and was just bored with it. Nothing felt exceptional enough to think something would eventually click. Very cool concept, just not a 'me" kinda game.

I play it frequently with a friend. Playing with randoms works pretty well except for the escort missions. For some reason that brings out the stupid in people.

I find Escort Duty to be easiest mission type as it plays into the games strength which is hold up in one spot and defend from bugs.

Played this on a whim with some friends when it dropped on GP and was pleasantly surprised at the depth and fun of the game. In its current state, it’s extremely polished, has a ton of content and is a lot of fun, especially with a group of friends.

ROCK & STONE!

Playing it at the moment.
It sucks when playing solo, but it's super addicting when playing with others.

Its weird because the devs acknowledge that there is a small but dedicated number of players that play the game purely solo, its why Bosco has his own skins and upgrade tree to give those few options for their AI Partner. Apparently that's fun enough for those few dedicated souls.

I on the other hand can't imagine the game without coop play, the dwarf classes synergies so well It just feels weird missing one.

Yeah, i didn't dven bothered with playing solo, it is just too easy to join a random group.

Too bad i have to collect everything i see while many people just run to the objectives...

Do you people have any beginning tip?!

Even just better upgrade for the weapons (engineer) or the best initial perks to unlock.
