I had Horizon pre-ordered but I canceled it. Sony is kinda getting the Osborne Effect with the promise of a better PC version in the near future but no crossbuy is a killer.

Dying Light 2 is going to be the open world game I buy on Day 1. But of the two you listed I'm definitely more excited for Horizon, Elden Ring has the higher upside but I feel like it's going to be like RDR2 where it just gets massively overhyped and overrated (imo) and will probably only be a "solid" game, where I feel more confident in Horizon being able to be better than Elden Ring

Definitely both. And Triangle Strategy shortly after. I'll be coming back from vacation in Mexico late February and I'll need to decide what order I'm going to play these three major releases (for me).

I want my PS5 sleeve.

Just because it's cheaper doesn't mean it's going to be a better experience.
I didn't say it means it will be the better experience, I can literally get 2 physical copies of Elder Ring for £10 more than Horizon to put it in perspective, Sony's pricing is ludicrous. So I'll do the smart thing and wait for a sale I'm not spending £70 I'll just wait till I find a physical copy on sale down the line.

Horizon Forbidden West. I like the Souls/Bourne games but I'm just not very good at them. I haven't even beat the Flame Lurker in Demon Souls yet and that's over a year old. Horizon is definitely more my speed.
Come on dude!

You gotta stick it to the Flamelurker. The feeling of vanquishing of that giant ape fucker is just too good.

I wasn't that hyped for Elden Ring until I started playing Dark Souls 3 a few days ago.

This is the first FromSoftware game I've played since Demon's Souls originally came out like 15 years ago.

Dark Souls 3 is already becoming one of my favorite games ever and I'm only like 15 hours into it.

beyond hyped for Elden Ring now. actually debating buying a PS5 to play Bloodborne and the Demon's Souls remake

Elden Ring. I would pay for it twice, just to play it once.

I also have both pre-ordered, but my spouse is excited for Horizon.

Horizon has to first prove to not be yet another 2013 era Ubisoft game like the first game.

Elden Ring is a day 1 tho... but for sure on PC after how dogshit the beta ran on Series X I am taking no chances! and Sekiro ran like a dream on my old PC, same with Dark Souls 3 and they both use the same engine, so I think I am save by going with the PC here especially after my recent upgrade...
that is doubly true because they already said a raytracing update will come after launch, and I sure as hell don't wanna know first hand how that shit will run on console lol

Elden Ring day 1 or asap after launch.

But I hope its not been made too easy when going open-world. At least not easier than Dark Souls 3.

Elden Ring. I mean, come on, it's a new Dark Souls basically, how can I not play that first? H:FW is going to be a visual tour de force, but I just love From Software's games too much to play that first.

Im getting both, but If I had to choose, Im going with Horizon. Elden Ring is of more of the same souls type of gameplay, but this is only the second Horizon game to come out with new mechanics and a graphics jump. Add Dying Light and it looks like Im going to be real busy for the first half of the year.

Horizon hands down, no questions asked.
Horizon ZD was probably my favourite game last gen for PS4.

For the easy answer - I’ll probably get both. But Horizon first and Elden Ring short after.

I will play both for sure, but in order to not WIMP OUT on the question being asked, I'll answer it. Sorry, Horizon...you will be a great game and look stunning, but if I had a gun to my head to pick just one, I'd have to roll with Elden Ring (Souls players will get what I did there!). I have so many characters in Souls games that have multiple hundreds of hours in them. I could well be consumed for a full year with this thing, especially if it's as big as some people are expecting it to be- I mean big in size of the playable environment and how much content is in there.

I pre-ordered Elden Ring the day it was available for pre-order and ended up replaying Demon's Souls, Dark Souls Remastered, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and now am working thru Dark Souls 2 just because the trailers re-ignited my interest. That takes a lot because as I said, I've spent so many hundreds of hours playing those games....I really thought that even I was finally done with them. I played Dark Souls a lot, but not QUITE as much. I'd missed the Demon's Souls furor on PS3 but finally played that as well...liked Dark Souls better. Dark Souls 2 was the first game I put SO many hours into. And I didn't do speed runs and that kind of thing. I'd go thru and get every item, every time and then again on NG+ and beyond. Same with DS 3.

Bottom line, I LOVE these Souls like games from FROM. Elden Ring looks so fantastic...I'm really still not over the fact that it's not releasing THIS month and that I still have a month and a half wait for it. I will be taking time off during that time period as well. I'll see you all there!

PS: The one thing I cannot fathom is the reports that the Moonlight Greatsword will not be in Elden Ring. Supposedly Miyazaki said this also stating that it was because 'Elden Ring is not a Dark Souls game.' This makes no sense to me. Kings Field was not a Dark Souls game. Bloodborne was not a Dark Souls game. I'm hoping this is a troll and it is because the thing is actually called 'The Great Sword of Moonlight or something like that. It's just a staple of these things and continues to be just a cool thing to find as you play your way thru these games. I've come to really like finding and using the thing in all these games. If it's truly NOT in there...make it available in the DLC for grace's sake!

Neither for me unless Horizon gets amazing reviews - and even then I'll be reading very carefully because Sony exclusives are massively over hyped. I didn't get along with the first Horizon but keep meaning to give it another go. Hated the combat, and the endless chit chat from the annoying main character.

Elden Ring I already know is not for me. I have no desire to be made miserable by any game, and endlessly rolling around while trying not to die sounds like torture.

So you basically want a game that you can breeze through with no effort? I don't know why some of you guys so afraid of losing/dying in video games? I dont see whats so fun about going through a game with zero effort.

I don't get why you need to mischaracterize games that are not as difficult as From's as "no effort". I've died plenty of times in non-From games. I just don't find From's games particularly enjoyable. Perhaps, just understand the simple fact that not everyone likes the same games you like?

Elden Ring for me on Steam.
I want a ps5 but I don't think it's happening for Elden Ring release.... I refuse to buy from scalpers.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Horizon.

No legitimate interest in playing Elden Ring unless it adds an easier difficulty mode.

And I wonder why people keep denying porting to PC is a bad idea for Playstation. PSN will lose money because of middleman Steam, and lots of people won’t buy a PS5 because they can get the games on PC.

Yes some people won’t buy a Playstation for 1 or a few games, but for some people: God of War, Horizon 2, Spiderman 2, GT7, Final Fnatasy 16 it would be enough to buy a console

They will lose some sales but I think the VAST majority of console gamers will remain console gamers, regardless so overall, Sony would make a lot more by porting games to PC. Most console gamers could care less about exclusives. My evidence is simply how poor exclusives sell. 8 million sales for an exclusive is a HUGE deal on a console even though there are over 100 million Playstations out there. Most are playing 3rd party games. I think consoles sales are hugely dependant on what people are comfortable with over what exclusives are on them. Only things like Madden, CoD, GTA, and to a lesser extent Skyrim and Spiderman would make a big impact which is why MS bought Bethesda. We won't see the impact of that until they start releasing games.

In the bubble that are gaming forums, I agree with you. Even today, PC gaming is daunting for casuals.

Just saw the tv commercial for Horizon and aesthetically, it's looks massivly unappealing. My 6 year old niece might like it though.

Didn't really enjoy the first Horizon when it came out, like yeah it did some cool things but I ended up getting bored after some hours.

I'll be getting Elden Ring for sure. I love open world games that let you explore and discover things for yourself, like BOTW or Dragon's Dogma, and this seems to be one of those.

In fairness Flame Lurker is by far the hardest DeS boss. Keep at it. Also Miyazaki himself has said that Elden Ring will be the "easiest" or most accessible one yet because of the sheer amount of tools at your disposal.

Also if you're struggling on a boss solo there's no shame at all in summoning, people whinge about Souls having no difficulty option because they don't actually play them, but that's the built-in difficulty modifier, summon a friend for jolly co-operation.

Some people play video games to relax after a long day. It’s totally understandable to want to play something “easier” and less anxiety inducing. Also I find as I get older I have less patience for difficult games and I’ve seen other people who feel the same way.

I think Elden Ring might not be too bad because its a open world game with co-op.

I don't trust any developer day one. I played Horizon Zero Dawn and the dlc mid 2019 so I wouldn't know about any issues upon release.
Thats your vieuw, i bougt and played Horizon day one and found no issues. Some developers put theyr games out in a great state. Guerrilla is on of them, just like Naughty Dog and some other Sony developers. Theyr are some gamestudios when you buy theyr games you know theyr will be some big issues when you buy them day one. So i dont buy those games never day one. My point is not al developers put theyr games out with a lot of issues.

Maybe From's games are not for you? I think this is pretty fine though, happens all the time.

Then play relaxing games?
