God of War PC Has Been in Development for 2 years

So what other PC related news is Sony hiding, like possibly say and date launches in the future. Maybe Sony is taking an Xbox approach where the hardware is purely just another method of access to their software (the real money maker).

Tag, you're it.
I mean...this month alone we got 2 PlayStation releases on PC.
It's clear they are taking this seriously.

Look how far they've gone from that messy Horizon release to God of War now.
And honestly HZD wasn't THAT bad, especially when you consider some recent releases on PC *cough* BF 2042 *cough*

I think their PC approach is perfect so far if they keep the timing like that. Probably even day one might not hurt PS5 sales as we would think with all the production restraints so far. I would think that Ghost of Tsushima's movie will see a PC version hitting PC around its release, same ghost with future releases.

As a Sony lover first, PS second, that could help the company much more. Especially if most games are using the touchpad then the DualSense would be the PC controller of choice for their games = more controllers sold at a profit.

Horizons was fine by the time I got it... so at least they fixed it. It runs and looks a lot better than other PC titles that shouldn't be so slow.

Sounds like PS games on PC has been in the works longer than we thought. Still think they should stop fucking around and give us that Bloodborne port.

That explains why GOW Ragnorak got delayed to 2022. These things take long and delay other projects. SSM isnt a huge studio. Only around 200 employees and Cory already took some devs with him for his new IP.

Lets hope Nixxes handles all ports going forward. Let them work on Ragnorak on PC for a day one release. Doesnt look like Horizon will be getting one, but GOW is months away so that should be their priority. I loved playing Forza and Halo on PC on day one.

Oh, I was looking for games that already released. I knew Uncharted was coming to PC in 2022, I just didn't release it was going to be releasing in January. Thanks!
Edited my post but you answered faster. Seems like it's PS5 only this month. They just announced it for PC but to be released a bit later than the PS5 version. Sorry. My mistake.

It kinda shows. The upgrade is tangible. I was trying to barter setting and it's one game where you really notice almost every step along the way. They really made this the gold standard version of God of War. This bodes well for the waiting time for the sequel I think. They're already balls deep in investment porting that engine.

I would like to believe that "The Last of Us" franchise isn't far behind "Uncharted" in terms of making it's way to PC.
Yes! I never got to play any of them and would like to see what it's about. The original remastered version for sure.

I have to say that might actually be a total waste of Santa Monica’s time.

Might as well have them do 2 year 40$ GOW in line of Spider-man Miles Morales.

Probably why they bought Nixxes, needed some professionals for the job.

yeah especially because after all this time, the game still doesn't run that well on PC whatsoever... the CPU being hit hard on a single thread is not good at all. 120fps is basically impossible and loading stutters are present because of that

If GoW sells well Sony will see the light, they will always be too scared to do day 1 releases causes Sony's gonna Sony, but 6 month console exclusivity window would probably work well for them.

Not really surprising, I think porting their engine on PC was quite a challenge. Now the good news is GoW Ragnarök is probably developed with PC in mind from the start.
Really? This is very surprising to me. It used to take 2 years to make a full fledged AAA game in the PS3 era. Now it's taking two months to port a game from an x86 platform. This isn't a remake or even a remaster.

That's a long time.
I was expecting x86 ports to be super fast and easy... like almost automatically working on pc.
So the consoles are not so similar to PCs like we expected ?

If they have a porting studio this could become faster. Market conditions are completely wrecked for this generation, and same goes for PC. The problem with the console market is that the scalpers maybe causing too much damage in the long run, and if people cannot buy the games, because scalpers have the machines. You kinda can see why crossgen is going to be here for a bit longer period, or why Sony is porting PS4 exclusives to PC... it needs money. The people that shout that it devalues the PS5 for not having true exclusives (cause it goes out for PC only) .

Sony ran the numbers and they realized... oh it's just a bunch of people that scream on twitter, but people still buy the PS5 in record numbers and our games so who the fuck cares what some random ass youtuber shouts around. In fact as long as they make quality PC ports, the PC people will be with us... hurray for Money.

How many devs worked on this? I'd say like 10.

Average salary of a game programmer in a large corporation (according to google) between 54300€ and 43700€ = 49000€

So ten times 490000€ x 2 years = 980000€

980000€ / 34.993€ (if 70% of 49.99€ is what the company gets) = 28005 copies to break even.

I guess the PC version of the game will make a lot of profit.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Not surprise. You can really see how much effort they put into the game on PC. Ultrawide, DLSS, Nvidia Reflect, better shadows and much more

I think it was more, but still highly profatable. No marketing, no production, no discs/packages, no logisitcs, no storage.

I think, from reading the interview with Barlog that their Engine and tools is very much custom and probably proved to be a nightmare to port to PC. Fingers crossed the work has been done and should help with future releases.

That's the average salary?! I'd imagine it would be much more. Like at least 70k.

But the port probably didn't cost them much at all. Especially without having to spend money on all the things Gameplaylover Gameplaylover mentioned.

I honestly have no idea. Just googled it and it seems like this is the German salary.
What can you earn as a game developer?
Your salary as a game developer depends a lot on where you work - on the one hand, it makes a difference whether you develop games for Microsoft's Xbox or for an ambitious small startup, on the other hand, urban centers and big cities usually offer higher salaries than the countryside.

Your degree, as well as your work experience, will determine what you can earn. Your starting salary as a junior game developer can range between 35,300 and 43,800 euros in a startup, but in a large corporation it's a different story, with a range between 43,700 and 54,300 euros. Your average salary as a professional game developer with a master's degree is 48,200 euros. As a senior, you can earn 60,000 euros or more per year. Depending on how good you are, there are no limits to your salary as a final boss.

But even if it's double or triple their salary or manpower, it's not that much.

Man’s said Sony lover. You’re really in too deep.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

i think Sony have acquires several support studios recently, may help to speed up the port process and development time for PS5 games..
