Rainbow Six Extraction Review Thread

Rainbow 6 Extraction reviewed by Luke Winkie on PC. Also available on Xbox and PlayStation. Narration by Max Scoville.

Rainbow Six Extraction is one of the boldest games in recent Ubisoft history. Not only does it exchange the series' staid military realism for a wonderfully grotesque universe of oozing, parasitic incursion, it also introduces a slew of mechanics determined to make us fear death. Returning to the scene of a failed mission in a desperate attempt to pry a friend's body from the festering horde is legitimately one of the most exhilarating operations I've ever attempted in a co-op video game. But Extraction's premise wore on me quickly, and its set of recurring objectives, while well designed, didn't offer quite enough intrigue to keep me excited about coming back for as long as some other similar games. As a result, Extraction resembles a generous, well-executed expansion pack rather than a brand-new game.

Some of these reviews, not the scores, are wild. The summary on Opencritic bemoans a "high upfront cost. . ." for entry. Really? Neither version is full price. Honestly sounds like the inevitable "this should have been f2p" that will eventually be said in this thread.

I've also seen "the game is all grind. . ." which is wild given the praise for other co-ops that are class based and just one grind after another (not naming names but one is free this month).

Scores right now are about where I expected them, but the actual reviews are wild.

I think most people who played the Halloween event knew how this was going to turn out.

And yeah Rainbore Snooze : Excretion is exactly that by the looks of it, but now it costs money, It's on gamepass but what's the point when it's not even worth playing?. Its less a game and more a vehicle for a microtransactions store front.

Hard Pass, was hoping for something more interesting as Siege came out ages ago but what an unmitigated disaster.
The whole idea of a zombie based RS is so stupid, this series is grounded in realism and fun tactical play.

Now it seems like its cookie clutter rubbish and what did we expect from Ubi, MS please buy these jokers.

Just got my copy. Never played RB6S so no emotional baggage here. I hope it's fun. I'm not expecting anything. Ask away if u have any questions. PS5 version.

Rainbow Six Extraction is a co-op first-person shooter for up to three players. Parasitic aliens known as Archaeans have invaded and it's up to REACT to put an end to the alien threat. But they won’t go down without a fight, so here’s a beginner’s guide to Rainbow Six Extraction. Sponsored by Ubisoft.

Karak's review was tepid but fuck it, it's on gamepass so I'll give it a shot. Plus, Ubisoft supports their games very well, so things will probably improve with tim

Actually looks fun. Will try on GP.

It is and I'm on GP but will pick this up on PS5 when it releases there. Game is fun so far and even the early missions turn into a clusterfuck if you have randoms that don't know what they are doing (no one is clearing sprawl or covering entryways). To be fair, it's day one but I feel like if you're playing now you should know what to expect.

. . .what I find odd about criticisms like SkillUp's is that these same criticisms aren't levied at other games: guy loves WARFRAME, of all games, and DRG - yet criticizes this for the grind and repetitive nature of the game (one assumes he didn't unlock everything). Like I said in my first post in this thread, some of the negatives reviewers are tossing out are really something else.

Beyond that though, this is a co-op, multiplayer game and I'm seeing a lot of reviews with solo gameplay.

For a project that has always kind of looked passionless to me, I can't say I'm too surprised at the reception. It's a game that I don't think any of that community ever asked for or thought about. Eeeesh.

Updated as much as I could, gotta head out for now will do more later today!

Here is our review - NOT reviewed by me, but Ubisoft did provide 3 keys for us. We played in a combo of a PS5, Xbox Series X and PC and it was flawless!

I actually really enjoyed the game a lot more than I thought I would and its a 8.5 in my book. However, my employee/Zach Barberie believes its an 8/10 which is his opinion and I respect and will let him have the freedom and the right to hold up that opinion. He did awesome work - check out the review!

Score - 8/10

Plus our other coverage (Recording and Gameplay is by me, shout out to our amazing video Editor Sergei! Thanks Ubisoft for the key!)

Isn't this LITERALLY why the game exists. That the response to Quarantine mode was so large that they had to get in on a fuller experience? Every review or preview of the game mentions that this was a game mode the R6S community enjoyed.

As someone that isn't involved in the community whatsoever, it never appeared to me that way. I mean, a mode is probably one thing, but a project of this size was probably a bit excessive I suppose.

Saw the review, well done! Game looks a bit polarizing, probably develop a niche hard core fan base

Someone PM a mod to change the title back to Rianbiw

Sitting around the Low 70's on da 'critic websites:

Yeah, ShillUp is ripping it.

Though progression feels too closely tied to a mediocre challenge system, Rainbow Six Extraction offers fun incursions against a parasitic alien threat and rewards teamwork.

Very happy to get this on gamepass. Would never pay money for it. Just done the training so far but I can't say it felt great.

Will do co-op later with friends. Hopefully it's fun.

The game looks like uninspired generic garbage.
Modern gaming in a nutshell

Curious to see how this performs. There doesn't seem to be much buzz surrounding it but you never know which dopey multiplayer games will catch fire with the casuals.

The rating on top of how it looks is trash.

deal with it, this isn't R6 Siege and won't get the same support. Wake Up.

I played it for over 5 hours and its far from trash. Its actually fun and works on day 1. Not buggy, not broken. You are probably the guy who thinks every game under 80 mc is garbage.

just because you like something doesn't mean it will be successful.

I like a lot of shitty games with bad Metacritic's and that's fine, get off your high horse.

yeah just like R6 siege. Oh wait... it all depends on the post launch content tho. Foundation is great imo
Siege is popular and works because it's PvP. This game isn't and already had bad sales before launch and that's why they lowered the price. Gamepass will give it a small boost, but overall it's going to die fast, just like the Outriders game.

They could have remastered Vegas 1 and 2 and it would of both sold more and have a longer lasting player base.

I think Siege had a good run, but it seems to be dying off recently in terms of players.

I do remember it's utter dreadful launch where Ubisoft eventually managed to claw it back over several years to deliver something that was in the competitive scene for years... however over the last couple seem to have lost sight of why people actually played or watched their game.

I have no doubt extraction has solid foundations, after all its essentially a mod for Seige, the diffrence is can Ubisoft create something engaging longterm during a time that they are loosing players for failing to do that on there main title?

Honestly it should have been an update for Siege alongside some advancements to terrorist hunt, unsure why Ubisoft thinks splitting the playerbase in two is a good idea, it's like Overwatch 2 all over again.

Just downloaded it with PC Gamepass with the HD textures.

Uh, the AI is really terrible. But the levels a kind of fun. It's not great, but it's worth a download with GP.
