I was asked my "preferred pronouns" today when making an appointment. First time this has happened in my experience

Personalized pronouns are just another expression of our narcissistic self-centered society. It's just another way of holding power over other people and having them cater to your whims.
If you need pronouns to express your identity, you're doing it fundamentally wrong.

Don't people have more urgent problems? I'd consider the luxury of whining about your pronouns a truly privileged position.

They do have more urgent problems, but focusing on this bs is easier.

Yeah, you may say that i'm kinda bothered by people overreacting because of things like these

They are no different from those people that they probably call as "snowflakes"
Don't think anyone here has overreacted. People are mocking the stupidity of it, because it's funny.

Much like most people would if a friend one day asked people to start calling them your highness. People critique and mock absurdity. Have since forever.

Haven't personally been asked it but I'm seeing it a lot in the industry I work. I don't think it'd bother me if I was asked it. I'd just answer it without being a shit head.

Why does it bother you so much? are you really that fragile?

Genuine question, not troll. If someone wants to be called he / she / they / them whatever the fuck, its their business. Times change for the better over time, being a luddite isn't a good look.

Who's fragile here for not being able to be referred by regular pronouns that follow their (real and only) gender?

Fucking clown.

Eh. It’s fucking ridiculous, but I can’t manage to get myself worked up about it, to be honest. It’s a current trend that’ll either fade, or just become another part of life. I’d be surprised if it catches on here in Europe though. America does like to indulge in weird, self absorbed bullshit a lot more than the rest of the world.

Gender and sex are completely separate things.

Sex is what you were born as biologically. Gender is what you identify as socially.

Science Bitch!

Even if you're a liberal, asking the question as a default makes no sense. The people who use non-traditional pronouns are in the vast minority. They can let you know what they prefer to be called. Having 98% of people specify that they are a man who identified as a man or a woman who identifies as a woman is just a waste of time.
Not to mention there are way more people with disabilities, but you don’t see the same public outcry when e.g. so many metro stations in Paris are unusable for people on the wheelchairs. Likewise, companies do not highlight how accommodating they are to people with disabilities. This is virtue signalling of bored liberals (and I consider myself one).

Putting what is a psychological concept in the same way you put hard empirical science is a stretch. Gender is an opinion, rockets do not fly if you mess up with math, it’s not the same thing.

Not singling you out as 2 or 3 other people have said something similar in this thread, but this is what people mean by 'normalize' this shit.
Basically implying that someone is a 'shithead' or arsehole, bigot, etc if they dont conform to this lunacy.
It will get to the point in the not too distant future where someone asks you this, you say you're not getting involved, and the person takes a step back with a suspicious look on their face asking 'Why?, right before they call the thought police.

This is honestly turning into some dystopian 'Logans Run' shit, and thankfully i'm going to do a Logan and escape to the woods or soemthing away from this clown world!.

I started seeing it as an option on forms last year. I've never been personally asked that. I don't know how I'd feel. I mean I am a six foot tall guy who rocks a near perpetual five o'clock shadow and can bench more than my own body weight. Someone being like "so are you a dude or a bitch?"(sic) would have probably felt like fighting words three or four years ago. I suppose now I'd maybe bristle and first and then in my head be like "Oh yea, this is our world now....".

The secretary from my doctor's office called me sweetheart yesterday. I could get used to that.

Totally normal here for male or female, not a thought is put into it. It's not gendered in the slightest.

It's basically standard since I was born anyway when you are a child or simply nice.

I even say "thanks sweetheart" at certain times wish them a good day and leave.

It's not the same outside of America. Also can translate into other languages but you better know your ground there.

Polish/Catalan, you better know each other already. English it's perfectly fine once you're not a creep.

EDIT: Correcting the above, you'd likely get punched as it would be considered gay in English speaking countries. I meant friends. For foreign travelers don't do that unless you know them. Say it to a stranger and you'd be fine with them ignoring it but they may not like it.

Yes denying trans people exist makes you a bigot. It is called transphobia.

By not calling them by their preferred pronouns you are basically telling them they are not who they are. I’m not trans but I understand where they are coming from and it’s also none of my business so I treat them with respect. Calling it lunacy is not being respectful.

You should look up the definition of gender then. And also look up sex. Cause there is actually a range depending on what chromosomes are where.

Gimme a fucking break.

A trans person is a male or a female that was born with the wrong sex and they feel uncomfortable with their body so they try their best to become the other sex.

When they become the other sex, one single pronouns like he or she should be enough, no need to butcher the english language by asking to be called he\she\they.

You were a male and now you are a female, she is the right pronoun.
You were a female and now you are a male, he is the correct pronoun.

Everything else is bullshit, trans people are not special people and they can't pretend that other people bend the english language to make them happy, it doesn't work that way, there is no imaginary oppression pyramid where people on the top have more rights than people on the bottom.

If you feel more personalities inside you and you want to be called with 4 different pronouns your place is with a specialist in bipolarism.

Whoever ask for more than one pronouns but doesn't have a serious personality disorder just want to feel special because their life probably sucks ass.

Some people don’t identify as either. That’s where “they” comes from. Non-binary is a thing. Now beyond make/female/non-binary then we might be getting a little crazy but those are the main real ones.

This would get more support if access was rebranded to "Wheelchair and pram/stroller access". There's not that many disabled people compared to parents with babies. Suddenly you'd get a fucking load more support to improve things in a way beneficial to many more people.

I'm not gonna bend english language because of their weird beliefs\sexual preferences.

And if you get offended by someone not using your favourite made up pronoun then you may revaluate your life's choices...

Those are not real problems dude, this is the equivalent of not knowing what to play first between horizon 2 and elden ring tier of problem...

Have seen retail workers listing theirs on their name tag, but haven't been asked about mine yet.
If I ever get asked I will tell them mine is "doot". If they ask what doot is, I will tell them that's my privacy. :)

This is my main point of contention with pronouns. We use he or she for animals to denote the sex. But in the new rules are apparently that it’s for your gender since that split off, which according to some can be “fluid”. But if you’re fluid or unsure of yourself, to me it makes more sense to just refer to the sex like we do for every other animal. It doesn’t define anything about your personality, and I can’t imagine that pretending it does is beneficial to anyone.

What’s worse about non-binary is that I can see why it exists as the true middle ground just like intersex is a thing. Intergender, really. Mistakes happen in humans, I get it. But besides the above where sex pronouns are logical, my bigger issue with the NB community is that the vast majority are just Gender Non-Conforming. That’s just an aspect of your personality and it comes across as a way of being “alternative”, just like previous generations had. Except that unlike intersex, a true NB person will have the sex to fall back on.

Very true, and I can relate since I have a baby in a stroller. Funnily enough our mayor is left-wing (also liberals don’t get shit done, which is why people don’t vote for them).

It's the entrance to a medical center that could be acknowledging a differentiation and inquiring to avoid a lawsuit from recent problems or as part of its services, maybe research. All or more.
The question doesn't seem threatening. If it's irrelevant to to the medical reasons for the visit, it's irrelevant.
Another medical center might be better.

I'm almost certain there has to be a moe anime with a cast of cute Chopper Girls...

AH-64-san is the standoffish Tsundere
UH-60-chan is the hard-working Genki Girl
Ka50-chan is the crazy Yandere
CH-124-kun is the derpy Bakadere of course - always falling off the deck into the ocean on the way to deployment.
And like that, a new fetish is born somewhere in the deep underbelly of the internet.
