Will Crysis 4 set a new benchmark and take the crown for graphics king again ?

Crysis 3 was the best looking game in the ps3 generation better than all First party games from sony/microsoft alongside Crysis 2007, Crysis 2 and warhead really pushed tech and graphics to a whole new level hope crysis 4 is Next-Gen Only so do you think Crytek can do it again or they lost many talented devs worked on previous games ?

" before we go into all of the details again i just have to stress how good crysis 3 still looks today i mean this was released before the last generation of consoles i think it still holds up, looks like a Ps4 and xbox one generation title in a way that kind of shocking"

Richard Leadbetter Crysis 2 in 2011
Crysis 2 on console is an exceptional release.
phenomenally attractive game, producing effects quite different and in many ways more advanced than anything we've seen elsewhere on console. We all wanted Crysis on console to be an event, a showcase release: by and large, Crytek has delivered, and those cutting edge visuals are backed by a truly impressive game design.

digital foundry - 2013
Where Crysis 3 really shines is on the PC, in which we are presented with a huge leap in graphical quality that gives us a tantalising glimpse of visual accomplishment on next-gen hardware "

The fact that Crysis 3 runs on console at all is a remarkable achievement, with Crytek deploying a wide range of advanced rendering techniques"

Crysis 3 on PC effectively offers a "next-gen now" experience - a preview of the level of technical prowess we should expect in the years to come from the new wave of consoles".

2018 - Alex
Crysis first released on PC. In 2007, it pushed real time rendering to new heights and spawned the memetic phrase, "but can it run Crysis?". Never had a game released that pushed hardware and engine technology so much, and never has one since."

There's a level of simulation here you just don't see any more in modern games". "Some rendering effects we saw in Crysis do still persist into present day titles.
There's the debut of screen-space ambient occlusion (SSAO), along with a glorious showcase in parallax occlusion mapping, an effect that only really came into its own on the current-gen consoles.
the game also supports shadows being cast from the parallax maps back on to themselves. POM only really gained momentum in the current-gen era and most games either just have parallax occlusion maps with no shadows, or just with shadows from one light source. It illustrates just how far ahead of the curve Crysis was

And then there was the character rendering - and bam, it's right in your face. At this point in time, Crytek knew that its character technology was way ahead of its contemporaries".

Crysis 3 is overrated. It's a great looking PS3 era game, nothing more. Ryse destroyed Crysis 3.

Crysis 4 could be great looking but Crytek isnt what it used to be. The fact that their announcement trailer had no footage gives me no hope. If they had the best graphics of all time they wouldve shown them instead of hiding behind a logo.

I think so. They already mastered raytraced lighting long before everyone else with their use of SVOGI even having it available on the Switch version of Crysis.

I'm sorry are those img supposed to be mindblowing or something?!
To be fair some of those scenes in Cry2 and 3 still hold up really well I think.

Probably not. Crytec is a shadow of its former self.
Exactly.

They've done some work to their engine over the years but Hunt Showdown is notorious for running like absolute shite and that's only with 12 players and a bit of AI in every server. Granted the level of detail is fairly high compared to other games but then again Warzone is on the other end of the spectrum which seemingly manages to have 150 players on a huge map with relative ease and is able to feature detailed environments to boot.

So yeah... Unless they somehow scaled up their operations over the past two years or so I wouldn't be expecting much from Cry 4.

I'm an idiot, i thought they were from the new one, cancel my gaf membership and shot me in the head like they do with cows who stop giving milk...

Crysis was demanding but it was also very unoptimized and CPU bottlenecked,a game designed for a future with single core CPUs clocked at ridiculous speed which never came.

If you never played other games since Crysis 1, sure.

Crytek devs admit the reason for 'Can run Crysis?' meme was the bad cpu use/multicore from Cryengine 2.

Even if they use the last Cryengine version, the engine inself stopped in time.

Crytek is far from what the company used to be. Considering that nowadays they've fallen so low that they try to mooch crowdfunding money from better developers to survive, I doubt they can even come close to what they achieved in the past.

They're probably going to make it as accessible as possible hardware-wise, in order to make some cash with the IP and survive another year.

Watch it be cross-gen AND on the Switch. 😂

Crysis was well optimized for the time. At the time most people were switching from 1 CPU core to 2 cores.
And the thought at the time was that IPC and clock speeds would rise considerably.

I was bout to say these where absolutely mindblowing in 2013 and looked better than anything during that time. People can criticize Crysis games for bad gameplay story pacing whatever but graphically they always set the bar higher.

This.

CryEngine has fallen well behind Unreal Engine. So i'm not expecting too much.

2007 was a long time ago, and Crytek is not the same studio anymore.

No Crysis game since the original has really wowed me. I guess that on a technological level they've always been pretty advanced, but they don't look that impressive to me.

nah, they are far from their greatest days, its hard to even called them proper aaa studio and after very underwhelming crysis remasters wouldn't keep big hopes

I don't think Crytek has what it takes to take the crown of graphics anymore. I could be hopeful but I think they are living more out of their past achievements than anything else. Hunt Showdown is a great looking game (it has amazing sound design) but it's nowhere near minding blowing. I think Crytek showing anything as we expected from them back then is just wishful thinking.

Cryengine males me cry. Cause it's very poorly optimized and now looks like shit. I highly doubt Crysis 4 will look better than the stuff from UE5, especially from a developer like The Coalition.

I remember the days where every time you bought a new GFX card the first thing you installed was Crysis and see if you could crank everything up to max and see if it was playable, it was an absolute looker in the day

I am not sure going forward we will have one game head or shoulders above others. It is only possible if the game is made with PC but I love their engine and hope they continue to make realistic looking games.

Ok, those physics are nice, but your original video (at least the part you linked to, I didn't watch the entire thing) was just a car driving past other cars at 5fps.
This game has a highly detailed model car physics model that is being simulated constantly, naturally the more cars in a scene the more demanding it'll be.

But yeah, the previous video doesn't make it obvious.

I too can set a benchmark by spawning in 10 million cheese wheels in Skyrim, does not make it all that impressive.
Having 10 million dynamic objects in a scene is mighty impressive, and definitely benchmark worthy.

A Fucking Idiot
For all those thinking they've lost all talent go take a look at what they were able to achieve on the turd of hardware known as Xbox One with Ryse Son of Rome. It's staggering what they were able to achieve and that was a launch game.

Unless they are as agile as Ninja Theory (comparable # of employees) I doubt they have the budget and the people to generate both top notch graphics and gameplay at the same time. But I have no actual clue, just a notion.

Whatever they do, I hope its streamlined and efficient. You can have bombastic visuals without bloating the fuck out of your hardware requirements because of lazy coding that requires brute force.
