Digital Foundry - Dying Light 2 (PS5 vs Xbox Series X/S)

Wow, this is not that great imo.

pc it is for this then.
I really wish developers would start having a mode for the series consoles where it’s VRR mode and just lets the frame-rate fluctuate as per gpu load. We could maybe see closer to 40 fps on the raytracing mode for example with some drops.

that would go good As more and more people adopt TVs that support it.

This might get me banned, but im gonna say it, are we still waiting for tools? When is the 2tf gonna turn up, i wonder
Most likely, since this game sure as hell does not use the latest tech, wouldn't surprise me, if the code was 90% untouched from the previous gen.

But not like we can' t really evaluate the performance, when it's capped and not that it matters, when you have both machines at 500bucks

They said that's coming still, might be for launch.

PC port seems sucks too at least reading the title thread in the same gaf.

Did you see The Matrix UE5 demo running on it? Did it affect the amazingness of UE5 on PS5 or XSX?
That wasn't his question.

Anyway if they can't day one patch the crashing... things will get bad fast.
Anytime people are comparing a games issues to Cyberpunk, it's not a good look.

Also need to up that resolution on the two current gen consoles.... 1080p isn't cutting it.

Not good enough for me. I'm going to wait for a GPU upgrade to play on pc or wait for patches or sales.

I bought and never played the big dlc for the 1st game so i might just play that. Though they did announce a next gen patch for the 1st game, so maybe i should wait on that too.

I'm playing it rightnow on ps5 in quality mode and it's OK. Almost Spider-Man smooth but something s is off. Can't quite put the finger on it. I hope the ominous day 1 patch fixes at least some of it. No glitches or anything so far. Performance mode runs flawlessly and resolution mode looks damn fine.

Or even for crazy people like me that don't care about variable frame rates. I played Deathloop and Death Stranding on quality mode with the frame drops and didn't give a shit. I've said before that I find it cool to see the machines giving everything they can. Probably nostalgia from old arcades where the more enemies on screen the slower the frame rate would become. Give me frame-rate fluctuations and the best graphics.

It has, the 2tflops is 17% and the difference here is 16-17%.
Also we're getting a VRR mode for better framerates, being a last gen game I doubt it uses Tier 2 VRS or SFS which would increase Series console performance even more.
No quoting this actual(constant) derailment Stuart360 Stuart360 ?

Riky Riky Riky you do know that when comparing the two consoles that you can't hang your hat on just the 2TF difference.
Other factors have to be taken into account.
If 2TF's gave the XSX the power advantage most games wouldn't end up better on PS5 would they?

They don't. But let's not derail, the results are what they are for this game, like Far Cry 6, Like Doom Eternal and Hitman 3. There is common theme like it or not.

Riky mentioning VRR is not derailment. The 5 or 6 usual suspects jumping on his post is though.
Grow up.

Funny how the answer was right under his nose.

What some fail to understand is that we're dealing with a closed platform, that means that the closer you are to hitting a ceiling, the more it will affect your game. There will eventually be a point when you compromise everything just to hit a stable 30fps, just like the 360 PS3 days, just like the XBO PS4 days... sudenly someone zapps 20% of power when you move to the other platform and you have to deal with it; you will have to make compromises to get the game to 30fps, and if the native res is already at 1080p, then something else has to get cut.

If you take the blinders off it is and he does the same vrr spiel in almost every thread.
As expected you have nothing to say about it so therefore can't be taken series MR I am a PC guy! But I argue with playstation people and have 360 in my name! Can't make this stuff up 😄

DF are the ones who mentioned the VRR mode in their write up, I just quoted it. Please try and keep up.

Considering Techland's history with the previous game, I hope everyone is happy with exactly these modes. They're most likely not going to change them.

That wasn't his question.

Seemed like a rhtorical question followed by a statement. And yes, his question of whether XSS is a next gen console has been answered, only next gen consoles can run The Matrix UE5 demo.

Let's answer a quick quiz just to be sure:

1. Is the PS5/XSX running a "next gen" CPU? If yes, then great, the XSS is running the same Zen 2 CPU
2. Is the PS5/XSX RDNA 2 architecture considered "next gen"? if Yes, then great, the XSS is running the same GPU architecture.
3. Since one of the distinctions of "next gen" is the SSD. Do PS5, XSX and XSS all have an SSD? If yes, then great, all 3 pass the test.

Concern is concern. XSS despite having all the next gen bells and whistles, it does not pack the same power punch as PS5/XSX, so does that mean that PS5 and XSX games will be compromised because of that? Again, the Matrix UE5 demo just proved that XSS can coexist and even do a great job of translating UE5 games, while at the same time PS5 and XSX get to shine with nothing holding them back.

If you don't like the way games look on XSS, then don't buy it, period!

What a piece of shit.
1080p should be a sin in 2022. It looks terrible. 1080p is so low even DLSS would struggle to save it...
And my old topic returns - We get 3 weirdly named modes without any explanation. And no mode is satisfactory. Every mode leaves something to be desired. No matter which mode you pick, you are left wanting.

Resolution - only 30, not even 4k.... no 40fps option
Performance - heavy TAA 1080p
Quality - apparently quality mode is only 1080p but has (only some)Ray Tracing... and it's 30fps.

Like cmon... I am already against the choice on consoles as it leaves me choosing what I want to sacrifice. But at least make there to be TWO CLEAR choices. Or two clear choiced + separate framerate unlocker to support future vrr.
Quality is not quality, resolution is not resolution...

This is the worst they could do.

Quite impressed how stable the framerate is on all the modes on all the consoles, barring one little section on XSX/PS5, and part on one cutscene on XSS.
Techland have def prioritized framerate and consistency over resolution here.

The game looks like ass.

What the hell are people "impressed" about when the game is running at 1080p and looks the way it does?

Well i meant impressed by how stable it is on all modes.
You need a 2060 on PC for 1080p/60. The game might not look great to some people (i think it looks good, although i still think the first game looks good) but the game is very heavy for whatever reason.

I own A xss. No it's not one of my main machines but it fulfills it's purpose in my home.

I won't show you how it isn't current gen cause it's not worth the ruckus it will cause.
