GT7 will require online connection to prevent cheating (same at GT:S)

I'm really not seeing any great arguments against why this game being always online is a negative thing.

So far we have:

1.What if I want to cheat?

2.What if I want to play in 15 years when the servers are off-line?

3. What if I don't have internet?

I read the conversation mate. He only mentioned the campaign to show people went from making whole anti-drm campaigns to defending it in a span of a few years. He wasn't directly comparing the DRMs.

If you can't interpret what someone else says, thats on you.
and my post was saying how in the hell a system locked on drm the same as a game?
if you are not happy with a game with DRM, don't buy simple as that that doesn't affect your ps4 or 5, there are tons of games with no DRM to play. i love how to fill the chest with pride and shout how the most popular games on ps5 are fornite and co. forgetting that they all are drm games

5. What if i'm playing in a place with no connection?

6. What if i do want to play this 15 years from now, like how people still play GT4 almost 20 years after it got released?

This is about having control over the stuff you own, or should own.

6. Your making an assumption on the worst case scenario that Sony decide to nuke the entire game when they sunset the online server. We don't have any precedent for that happening with a GT game (taking the GT5 and GT6 servers down doesn't count as it didn't have any impact on the SP content). So if that eventually does happen, then I will come back here and admit I was wrong. Until then let's enjoy the game and not make a purchase decision based on something may happen in over a decades time.

What if you lose internet connection for an extended period of time. There is no GOOD reason to force constant online. Who cares if someone wants to cheat? Fuck this!

Point 2 and 3 seems like good points to me.

I mean the game is not MMO or a loot game so what’s really the point that it needs internet connection on a single player campaign aside from cheating?

Still incoveniences. What if i wanted to play GT at those moments? That shouldn't happen for a game that in essence shouldn't require internet connection.

They still nuked them which already counts as a precedent, and what saved those games was precisely the fact SP didn't require internet.
I'm not saying they won't patch the game to make it work without internet. I'm saying we're left in a situation where our only option for the game to live on when the servers are down is to pray they will patch it later.

You and the other guy are just trying to draw a connection that isn't there though. One is DRM too but it's cloud saves to prevent cheating. The other was DRM to stop second hand sales on a console. You can't see why one might be ok with one type of drm and not the other? You're a Steam user after all you, deal with DRM daily too. Not all DRM issues are equal.
4. What if my internet isn't stable? (just the other day i had my internet out for almost an entire day)

Then I can see your complaints. Any connection even if unstable is ok, it's not a constant thing and doesn't send huge data. If you are in a place with no connection though then you can't progress on your save. It's that simple. It sucks but you can't earn cars or Cr that day.

I'd imagine you can't play some of your steam games either unless you saw the outage coming or always enabled offline mode thereby disabling Steam Client features, had no updates pending, had the correct credential settings, and the game specific drm allowed offline mode on steam. I'd be interested to know if thats how you actually use Steam though (offline) . I kind of have my doubts. Otherwise you're at the mercy of an internet connection too already for your entire game library in an unpredicted outage, you wont even be able to launch most games.

15 years from now if the game was ever shutting down there would be no online multiplayer or game economy to prevent from cheating so they can remove the online sync and rely on your local save. A simple solution.

cloud saves mean you cant progress on a save file without a connection and that sucks but I suspect most people are making a mountain out of a molehill. Especially those trying to draw a parallel to all games on Xbox One requiring a connection in a bid to stop second hand sales. They are not even remotely the same. Some others in very specific circumstances that do need to play offline are probably genuine. It's not hard to tell which is which.

You can play GT in those moments. You can't earn Cars or Cr. It's that simple. The game was designed with a shared garage and access to online any time and not two separate save files you grind individually. This is the cost of that design choice. You can play the game offline but earning new cars or Cr requires a cloud save. You don't personally like that and that's ok. It is what it is.

The system knows what horsepower values are possible for what cars, surely
Cheating isn't just about going outside of some bound. Imagine you were grinding away races to earn Cr to upgrade and tune your car and some guy comes and whoops your ass with a fully maxed out car because he hacked a save file.

1. Sure it's an inconvenience, I don't disagree with that but the positives out weight the negatives here in my opinion.

2. Again, we don't have a crystal ball for this stuff but the sunsetting of old unused multiplayer servers is par for the course for most old games, its not uncommon nor is it that big a deal for as it usually comes well beyond any meaningful community being affected.

Given the extent to which online is used in both GTS and GT7 I would find it hard to believe that Sony or PD would want to completely wipe its existence from the face of the planet. I just don't see it happening.

Its a correct analogy. You can sit here, react to and compose posts all day from an offline mirror, but without a connection... nothing happens and nothing changes.

The online requirement is to save PROGRESS. So what's the difference?

Besides, the larger issue is that its a nothing-burger to complain about in the first place. Get over yourselves. its not a problem.
Boom!

Then how are you using this website?

Its 2022. everything is internet.
I love they way some are angry they have to connect to the Internet for GT7. Once to start and then just to save progress but I bet these same people would lose their rag if their smart phone disconnected for an hour.
If something bothered me so much I wouldn't connect anything to the Internet.

Which is why GOG is my main store to go. And why I always check the DRM specifics on Steam when buying a game there, as well as crack availibility if the game does have some sort of DRM. I always avoid games like that until there is either a crack or they remove the online requirements, unless its a game i strictly plan to play online anyway.

And yes, i did use steam offline that day, there are other occasions i use it offline too, like when my sister wants to use my account to play New World on her own PC.

Any unnecessary requirement for internet connection is bad and should be criticized.

This is bad option during internet outages. Outside of that, everyone games online. It will just be another online game.

It wont that way for long. Once someone buys cdpr, they will remove that option. They wont keep store, which doesnt have drm games.

And yes, i did use steam offline that day, there are other occasions i use it offline too, like when my sister wants to use my account to play New World on her own PC.
offline steam is nice. but I like cloud savings. much easier to save my game files.

everything these days needs internet connection. It would be like that in the future. When internet makes everything easier, people tend to use that method. You cant fight, what the masses use.

People who live in rural areas or in third world countries where the internet is'nt stable enough to mantain a constant internet connection will suffer.
So how would these people download a 20gb update or patch for the game? I would imagine it would take months?
I've used my phone as a hot-spot for my console when abroad. Worked absolutely fine for games just requiring a check or to save progress.

Yes, they find ways even in always online games. I myself am aware of some ways you could cheat in the game, cloud saves or not

It is a bad option now that they're forcing an online requirement. I was actually considering getting GT7 if it got ported to PC, but i'm 100% skipping it now.

It wont that way for long. Once someone buys cdpr, they will remove that option. They wont keep store, which doesnt have drm games.
Thats a lot of assumptions. But if they do, i'll simply stop buying there and take the games i bought with me. There are other DRM-free stores, or i could just handpick the games with no DRM or with available cracks.

Good for you, i also use it. But even better is having both cloud and local saves

I'm not against internet. But if something doesn't need it to work then it shouldn't require it.

That is something these companies and gamers dont understand. These guys cheat, because they can bypass the system.

If you play any online game, you wont have an issue with this. Only people who have issues with this, are those that dont play online games alot.

You either ride the wave, or put your drm pride down. There is no escape from these guys. I was like you, until reality hit me down. We cant fight this fight anymore. We are too weak.

both are great. But with alot of things on my plate, its impossible to keep track of my local saves.

Its not whether it needs or not. Its about doing minimal things. Internet made us super lazy, due to easy it is to do the work.

I've been escaping from them very well so far, so i'll keep doing things my way thank-you-very-much.

There's nothing to track, the game does that for you. Cloud saves are just a back up.

Its not whether it needs or not. Its about doing minimal things. Internet made us super lazy, due to easy it is to do the work.
It has also made my life unnecessarely complicated at times.
Imagine being able to take a game setup to another PC, installing it and just playing it! No account syncronyzation, no need to install extra bloatware apps, no two steps verifications.
The future baby! Nope its just what drm takes away from us.

Sad to see so many consumers being ok with this.
I used to be adamantly against it, but after experiencing GTS and having an issue one day only durring almost 2 years playing it, that all I had to do is leave my console on in game menu for an hour till my internet came back online and I could save. I had to shut up and eat my words becouse it really is a non issue for all the reasons detailed so eloquently already:
It is the year 2022. Everybody has internet and practically every electronic device and entertainment service requires internet. Who gives a shit?

“B-b-but 15 years from now I might not be able to play it!”

A. by that time there will be a new iteration of GT that does everything better, nobody aside from a few purists are going to want to go back and play it

B. They’ll probably patch it and remove the online check once it’s EOL

C. For fuck’s sake, it’s a $70 entertainment product that I’m going to play and enjoy until I get tired of it and play something else. It’s not some lifelong investment. I’ve spent more money for dinner and a movie.

Me, I'd assume a lot of people would. People play these games online competitively and if people are hacking save files to have all of the cars fully maxed out with 1000bhp it would mean you are never winning or setting the best times in any categories.

Your point earlier was that there are car category races but it takes a lot of saving/spending Cr to buy cars and tune. Imagine playing an online RPG and people are lvl99 with all classes because of hacks and you're there grinding away with your single character. GT is like a caRPG.

thats what you get for jump in the middle of the conversation with smart-ass comments..

the ps4nodrm campaign was regarding the console itself having DRM, not a game. DRM is not a new concept that always has been around forever for any game required to be online.
the user was using false equivalence as ''but but ps4nodrm campaign'' like is the same thing. if you don't get that i don't know what to say to you

The main idea behind the no drm movement at the time was to not require online connection to validate the copy of the game. This is exactly that, just at game level.
If you dont like dem at system level, you should refuse to accept the same thing on a game instance.

There are so many games though so you can fight a little longer.

I still play online required games. But a traditionally offline game losing that mode is enough for me to vote with my wallet.

It’s an online required game now so I’ll treat it that way. Maybe once it’s less than $20 like all my steam purchases then I’ll consider it.

Thanks for your posts here. Happy I’m not the only one fighting this unnecessary punishment from a once proud franchise.

I’ll continue to hope for a GT7 A-spec release in a couple years with true single player campaign.

Okay, try this: IMO, games are art. Polyphony and its director have been put on pedestal for producing great masterpiece artworks - until GTS. Their choice to change from making masterpiece paintings, to now making sand drawings or ice sculptures, or they have failed to speak out against the unsavoury requirement - put on them by Ryan/Hulst means it is no longer their artistic vision - degrading it as art even further.

You wouldn't accept this requirement of a piece of literature, music, film or painting, etc, so why games?

/as for my reasoning why great games are art, it is because my interaction/reaction to great games is organic, because the thoughts and experience I have from playing is not predictably engineered, like the great games get accused of, as why games aren't art. A desire to re-live those thoughts/experience the game has provoked - at a whim, just like rereading a book - shouldn't be trojan-horsed by servers shutting off for the sake of it, IMHO.

U dont need a online conection to validate ur GT7 game. You can boot it offline and play the arcade mode. Thats not DRM.
I understand the inconveniance for ppl with shitty internet, but ppl that played GT Sport know the single player experience is much better with its online feautures than if the game was fully offline. The same way for souls game single player experience is much better with an online conection for its online feautures.

Im glad thers an anti cheat system in place, i never found any cheater during my time in GT Sport. As i mention, i understand the inconveniance, even with a good conection servers go down for maintnance and when that happens u cant save ur progress untill the servers are back again. But the pros, outweight the cons. The game is much better this way than if ppl was allowed to hack they saves and then u would find ppl playimg wipeout 9n online matches, instead of GT.

Because you can use the cars from your garage in online races. If ppl was allowed to modify they save files they could hack the cars in they singleplayer garages and then use those cars on online races.

Alot of ppl complaining about this issue dont have touched GT Sport or any GT in years and are clueless about how the online feautures improve the game.

Because it's not a solely single player mode in the same way that Destiny isn't a single player game even though a lot of it could be done single player to earn guns and level up your character. It requires online. The guns and characters I level up playing 'solo' are the same ones I use if I were to jump into crucible later. It's a GaaS game. So is GT now. You don't like that, that's ok, I'm not a fan of it either but let's not pretend there isn't a reason for this already eloquently described in the OP and act surprised. The solution suggested to this would only create more complaints from genuine buyers of the game than it quashes on this forum.

Not the PC is the problem. You can cheat on PS4 (hacked consoles). So far I don't think there will be a PC version.

But this is really ridicules. Let them cheat in single player as they want. This shouldn't be their business. Just try to get cheaters away from the multiplayer-mode.

As of today, almost nine years after it's release, the moment you enter online with a "hacked" (jailbroken) PS4 into PSN, you're slapped with a ban.

A PS4 cannot run unsigned code online at all, in your terms "hacked PS4's online". An Xbox One cannot even run them offline (yet).

This isn't about PC as well.

What Yamauchi meant was the free access of save files via removable storage, that has the possibility of being edited on a jailbroken PS4 or PC, and used on unmodded PS4's with official firmware.

The only clueless people are ones writing excuses for this.
"Oh someone will have 10000hp car"-did you ever race online? There be restriction for races as usual so you don`t have situations like that ( i think they call it PP or something) where they take car performance and rate it so you don`t have "10000hp" racing in Yaris Cup.
"Oh someone will have 30 000 000 credits while I had to grind for it" - I bet first day on release there will be credits to buy on Sony store that create this kind of deal, only someone will have to buy them using cash. Are you ok with that? "Don`t worry about preserving this game, in a future there be new GT game to play" - I assume you burn your books after reading, cause in a future "there be new books to read".
Bunch of corporate rats not gamers, always coming with excuses for their favourite brand doing greedy/idiotic things.

Thats such a smooth brain response and your knee jerk reaction is obviously based on not actually have any experience with Gran Turismo Sport and how it works. So if your going to call people corporate rats at least don't make it look like your just pulling stuff out of your ass.

it does not matter how any of this works. online requirements for a single player game is a shit thing to do no matter the reason.
and if you look at Sony's history with supporting online functionality EVERYONE should be worried by this.

Sony is among the worst when it comes to turning off Online features for their games. often not even keeping them online for long enough to last until the sequel is out.

"Oh someone will have 30 000 000 credits while I had to grind for it" - I bet first day on release there will be credits to buy on Sony store that create this kind of deal, only someone will have to buy them using cash. Are you ok with that?
That's the debate you want to get into? I'm not ecstatic about it but at the very least the guy buying the credits with real money grinded somewhere else and is funding the free content updates I'm getting. Just like in GT Sport. What's the guy hacking a save file doing for me?

that is the only reason this has an online only DRM tho, THAT is the reason, nothing else... it is THE ONLY reason.
they want to SELL YOU CHEATS and do not want you to be able to cheat any other way.

so the game restricts your ability to play it offline so they can sell cheats to whales. not a good look you know.

Forza Horiton 5 also gets free content updates without limiting offline playability
