The Book of Boba Fett |OT| Sarlaac Spit-Up

I guess it's me, but the Mando S2 Luke looks more like Luke than the Boba Fett one.

Even when I was watching the episode, I felt like something was a little off. His face looks too clean or even "feminine" for lack of a better way of putting it.

It's still great what they accomplished.

Yeah, the mando one looks awful to me. He could not even move his face without a total breakdown in the technology, so that still shot really helps its case, but even then I think it's a blowout win for the newer one. They just need to do his hair differently, it's straighter than it ever was, and longer.

I rewatched the episode again, and I thought it was a great visual when Ashoka is asking Din whether Grogu is a foundling or a padawan how the screen is divided between them right down the middle. Din is in the foreground, drawing closer to Grogu but uncertain as Ashoka explains how his going to meet Grogu would only make things more difficult for him. She approaches Din, symbolic of these two opposing religions coming together, then appears surprised but also relieved that he decides to let her deliver the gift. So essentially Din was the one being tested here.

Later Ashoka is together with Luke, reveals the gift, and asks Luke what he thinks of Grogu - what will he do about him? So now it's Luke's turn to be tested. And Luke, apparently in the opposite direction of Din, delivers a black and white ultimatum to Grogu.

It makes me wonder. Are the writers actually revealing that Din and Luke are the ones being tested, as they are pretty blunt in pointing out that both Din and Luke are different sides of the same coin: father figures offering protection to Grogu (Luke even straight up says as much via spoken exposition), but going about it in different ways. Or, are we being fooled and Luke is testing Grogu - he realizes that Grogu should choose the armor, and if he doesn't he isn't right to be a Jedi. I think Ashoka's smiling comment "So much like your father..." might be a hint towards this conclusion - she's pointing out that Luke isn't as dogmatic and firm as he might appear to be at first glance.

I'm probably just high and reading far too much into a simple Star Wars story, but man is it fun to speculate. What a beautifully shot episode.

Replying to myself, but I just realized that in the previous episode they showed how dogmatic the Death Watch Mandalorians were when they made an apostate out of Din - a juxtaposition to what we later saw with Luke.

So maybe it's going to be Din and Grogu setting out alone again, this time without any shackles, no oaths sworn or orders to follow.

Man I cannot wait for Mando season 3. Want it now.

Not to mention, given Disney's infamous level of interference with creators and the fact that the original writer/director of ep 9 actually bailed precisely because of it, there's zero (hell, negative value) reason for anyone to believe that the movie would have even ended up following that original screenplay if it had been made.
True
Trevarrow bailed because he couldn't figure out how to make Duel of the Fates work without Leia. If you read the script you could see why. She wasn't just repurposed CG footage from The Force Awakens in it.

Had the Luke tech they used in Boba existed then, they could've done it though. In TROS they just spliced dialog from TFA for Leia, for Luke they're using an AI dialog tool to generate his lines, which they didn't have when Duel was going to be made. If they did, they could've done the Leia parts pretty easily.
TROS is the worst film in the entire saga. Duel of the Fates actually tied it all together.

Catching up now on the last two episodes.
Not sure why Mando agreed to this new ship. No where to store his weapon cases, no where to store his bounties and more importantly, no where to go to the bathroom.

You gain some you lose some. He can put his bounty in the droid space and the speed of his new ship is unparalleled.

I am disappoint.

Fuck off killing Cad Bane who was now my favorite bounty hunter type character. You suck Disney.

As for the episode.... It was very meh compared to the past two episodes which were very good. I'm asshurt over the killing of Cad Bane but the giant droids with their prequel-like force fields were cool. Absolutely love that their aim is worse than a Stormtrooper and they couldn't hit or kill one fucking person.

For those that just saw the last episode….watch the after credits

As for that episode…those giant battle droids sounded like a cross between the original robocop and ed209

Wasn't expecting to see Mando as Fay Wray.

I enjoyed the ending. Wasn't familiar with Cad. I really liked him. Using the Gaffi he got on his salamander vision in the desert ocean to kill him with a sacred weapon was beautiful.

I literally laughed out loud at that moment. Most of the episode was so cringe anyways but that scene was a cherry in top for all the crap.

The honda monkey cosplay squad...slow walk cant aim shit droids...I fucked a Jawa mechanic with her slave droid charriot...the naked weapon shoot out behind barrels...WTF happened.

How can you make series about a privateer of a galactic space opera this clunky. Especially with the money legacy and talent they have in hand.

I hate beind this negative so maybe i'm just too old to understand this master piece. But Csus.

After two amazing episodes, Boba is back where it started: inside the gut of the Sarlacc - at least plot- and cinematography-wise. Who the hell thought that Rodriguez can make a good finale? It was just so … absurd! Running and gunning is fine, but having a giant robot hitting shit was just ridiculous. A whole lot of things just didn’t make sense. Slow and badly directed action. Even without knowing Rodriguez was directing, I knew it from the beginning when Fennec gave her exposition speech.

Let’s hope Mando s3 gets better - his season 2.5 episodes are the only reason to watch this garbage.

The action scenes in this series suck so much holy shit. It felt like a pg13 power rangers episode.

Please get whoever did the train sequence in episode 2 to coordinate action scenes because he/she is apparently the only one who knows what they’re doing.

edit: just looked it up, directed by steph green. no wonder the action in ep2 didn’t suck

Grogu chose Mando.

Ben remains Luke’s first student.

StarWars.com confirmed the temple is the same one from TLJ.

I liked it. There isn't much subtext or nuance to discuss. I like Robert Rodriguez but he seems wrong for Star Wars. I wish they had tapped Howard to direct this episode, or even Green who did episode 2 and a bunch of other good episodes of TV.

Now all is right in the universe until Ashoka or Mando s3 - whichever comes first.

Obi-Wan is next (seems like May after a D+ exec fucked up on Twitter and said so). Then Andor. Ashoka has barely started filming, so that’s after Andor, then Mando at Christmas.

Can someone explain how to do spoilers? Im not sure what text to use before and after

That said I'll be vague. That one character who died still had a light on their suit. Not saying that means they are alive but ah... Another character survived with worse injuries.

That spin move from the modded guy was straight up desperado. Banderas does the same move in slow mo. I took it for what it was and enjoyed it. Definitely has issues but fuck it temuera is like 60.

Let's please never let Robert Rodriguez near Star Wars again. Even on paper, it was a by-the-numbers finale, but a good director could have made it at least a satisfying action piece.

Man.

Thankfully someone with talent is doing Kenobi.

Agreed.

Bryce FTW. She should direct whole of Mando S3.

A bit underwhelming series overall. It has such potential to be very good series.
I wonder why need to end him. At least rancor is awesome and please no more colourful vespa.

What are your guys' thoughts on Luke being a jedi fundamentalist? Does ghost Yoda really not wanna give him any advice?

This show is a shadow of what it could be, imo. Looking back at what we got, I feel like a fool for expecting some type of HBO-level fantasy experience. This was just a live-action cartoon suitable for kids.

Yeah, RR really isn't a good fit at all. Hopefully he and everyone else don't let politeness or friendships cloud their judgement on this.

So what's the verdict on the series overall, out of 10? :lollipop_grinning:

He had some good stuff, Sin City 2005 and From Dusk Till Dawn... 👀

It parallels the Mandalorian fundamentalists, which I think is the point at this time. The sequel trilogy had potential to explore this concept but.........yeah.

I'm still hoping they just leave the sequel trilogy alone. Use these shows to set up Grogu's backstory so he can establish a new Jedi Order 500 years in the future, with new ideas having learned all these different lessons and leave all this current bullshit behind. The Old Republic games show that Star Wars can work without all the trappings of the Skywalker era, and interesting stories can be told in this universe.

The Final was ridiculous....... I enjoyed it.

No one understands cover and actual battle tactics in this episode.

I don't thing Cad Bane is dead, he had a blinking light.....could be signaling life support.

The Marshal is being changed some how.

MY kids are going to love it.

The finale was easily the worst of the last 3 episodes. Felt like a Saturday morning cartoon. Everyone is oblivious to things like cover and concealment and the "surprises" were incredibly underwhelming. The fight scenes were good as an idea, but the implementation was horrendous. It reminded me of those terrible TV shows from the early 90s where everyone is a fucking moron. Geez, is this the same director that did the Bill Burr episode? Even though some of that was silly, it was still lightyears ahead of this.

Can't blame the Freetown militia for not using cover when those droids couldn't hit the broad side of a barn!

For sure I noticed the thematic parallels from both dogmas. They kinda hit ya on the head with how both Din/Grogu are pariahs from their respective cults. I'm just wondering why Luke is so dead set on those rigid teachings especially when its barely his first student. We know that Yoda's spirit is still around, so he really just sits back and lets Luke make the same mistakes as the order? Ghost Obi Wan gave him all this advice (including literally telling him where Yoda was hiding) and peaces out now just cuz Vader is dead lol like come on guys.

The combat choreography was rough at times. The scene with...

Boba and Din taking to the air together to fight in their jetpacks

... should have been one of the coolest moments in Star Wars TV history. Instead it's just a cool little part of this one episode.

Just binge watched the whole series whilst being vaguely aware of the general background fan dissatisfaction.

What an utter mess of a show. Bafflingly inept.

It even kinda ruined Mando season 2 finale.

Hmmm. I see where you mean. I see the S with a line through it but it's still grayed out. I must be doing something wrong.

I don't understand why this was marketed as a crime lord/underworld show. Fett "banishes" the drug trade on Tatooine. Not sure how that's possible to accomplish on an ENTIRE FUCKING PLANET, but we'll even skip that logic. Ultimately, he's not a fucking crime lord at the end of the show, and he never acted like a crime lord throughout the course of the show........so why even take that story angle in the first place? We were wondering why Boba Fett would even want Jabba's position before the show started.

They could've just as easily told a story where the Tuskens showed Fett a secret way to harvest water, on a planet where moisture is a commodity. Now that he's old, Fett uses this knowledge to retire wealthy and live in Jabba's palace, while undercutting the crime lords. The people get cheaper water now, the crime lords come after him, and boom there is your series. None of this awkward juxtaposition of running a "criminal" empire vs being a Disney good guy. This show is so fucking stupid as it's presented to us.

It was already kinda ruined with Luke's complete disinterest with what he was fighting and what the Empire had been up to at that point.

He didn't even introduce himself, was everyone there supposed to know him already?

Right. Just show up and start doing good guy stuff and leave. The GGI was so fucking awful he could barely nod his head without total immersion though. It had the thought process of a cameo, but they want it to be a real part of the story now. Ridiculous.

I was wondering what prevents the pikes from just selling spice in Mos esly (sp). It's not even that far away from Mos espa and Boba pretty much can barely extert control over the city he has now.

I could nitpick this show all day but ultimately I enjoyed it
