Elden Ring Is Now The Highest Rated Game Of All Time On OpenCritic

Far and wide, low and high, everyone who’s played it is giving Elden Ring a perfect score. IGN, Screen Rant, Game Informer, VGC, GameSpot, Game Rant, Destructoid, and even our own Jade King have graded Elden Ring with the highest possible marks.

In fact, Elden Ring is currently the highest-rated game of all time according to OpenCritic. That’s with almost 100 reviews and an average score of 96, meaning virtually every person that’s played Elden Ring has given it a perfect score.

It’s rare for a game to generate this sort of wide consensus, and rarer still for everyone to agree to award a game the highest possible score. If this is any indication, we could truly be looking at a once-in-a-generation game like Skyrim or Red Dead Redemption.

It has the same score as Mario Odyssey. I think you mean it's tied for the highest rated game of all time on opencritic.

Checkmate Souls nerds.
they only show that far but the sorting obviously shows that they calculate further to something like 97.XX and then sort by the number they don't show the public

edit: also since that tweet Elden Ring has fallen to a 96

Mario Odyssey is a 98? I bought my daughter a Switch for Christmas. I got Mario Odyssey for her to play. I have absolutely 100% no idea how that game is rated that high. As a matter of fact I can't even fathom it. I'm not saying it's terrible, but there is utterly and entirely no way that game should be that score.

Wow. Just wow.

Idk how Mario odyssey was a 97. It was arguably not the best Mario 3d platformer. I can understand breath of the wild being up there tho.I hope Elden ring ends up being the best of the souls games as these reviews are claiming.

This is from the tweet in the op, but yes for some inexplicable reason Odyssey is a 97. It's hilarious.

Edit - welp, Elden Ring is a 96 now.

What I meant to say was that reviews are absolutely meaningless womp womp
Mostly in this industry. Video game reviewers are just kids reporting from their bedrooms. There's hundreds of reviews for every major title, yet so few of them say anything of note. I've read PC Gamer's and Polygon's review today and boy... it is fucking embarassing how nonsensical and often contradictory every paragraph is.

Just read this opening paragraph from PC Gamer's review. It's borderline retarded.
The Dark Souls series, including Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, were open worlds before the term referred to the structure of games like Grand Theft Auto and Assassin's Creed. Far off castles and swamps caught your eye, you puzzled out a linear path towards them, fell down a hole and went looking for a new destination. They didn't need maps or icons, because their worlds were dense with clues and lures leading to new paths and back to old locations.
When the fuck were Dark Souls games open world? Before GTA even? There is nothing video game critics won't assign to Dark Souls. That's why you should all take Elden Ring reviews with a grain of salt.

Hilarious. But I reserve the right to suddenly act as if reviews are credible when they say Souls or Mario games are good

It's crazy how odyssey is higher then Breath of the Wild.

Not really. Both are giant open world games, but Assassin's Creed: Odyssey doesn't break your equipment when you use it, and there is a lot more dialogue and side quests (regardless of how you feel about them) for the space. And it has more replay value in that you can make different choices and even use a completely different character.

EDIT: For clarity, this is supposed to be a joke.

Which is odd because Mario Odyssey is probably the least popular game in the series. There were 2-3 games ahead of Mario Odyssey in it's release year alone for GOTY

Those are inflated Nintendo-kiddy #'s and I wont hear any differently

Without a doubt my least favorite/highly anticipated Switch title, overrated to a fault
