Huh...didnt know PS5 also had a higher resolution at times.

Interesting.

Also interesting that 2 different analysis show 2 different resolution results...

Oh well.

Yes. Load times>frame rate stability. And the perf mode on ps5 hovers around 55fps. There’s absolutely no reason to sacrifice all that for VRR. The screen barely tears and the drops are not that noticeable. I’m sure I won’t notice them. John is crazy.
The bc version locked 60 and load times are almost identical. That dual entitlement disc is interesting.

Digital Foundries video?

The written analysis didn’t mention the resolution unless I missed it.

Edit: I haven’t watched DF video btw only read through the written analysis.

last 2 years have been a real crapshoot in terms of releasing a complete game...even HZD2 has some annoying bugs that you would never see on a sony console 1st party game
hopefully things return to normal soon
Now do Halo Infinite when we are taking about “complete games” and waiting on something … anything. Even FH5 was/is a bug riddled mess online since launch.

The video. Again, its best to watch the video and read the article, its always something missing from the other.

Just different analysis with a focus on different things. Thats all. AFAIK the resolution results in the DF video is different than this.

So played this on my 2080 at 1440p and it is very curious. Most of the time the GPU utilization is around 65-75% but then you make one turn towards some nearby trees and boom, shoots up to 85-95%. Catacombs look last gen and by last gen i mean PS3 era graphics and the gpu utilization shows that too. 45%.

I think whats happening here is that their draw distance system is rendering too much. they are either not managing the LODs properly or they didnt optimize this game at all. I dont typically see GPU utilization jump that much in open world games. It's way too variable. I saw this recently in Cyberpunk but only in one area. I was playing with maxed out settings driving around the city, 75-80% usage at 30 fps capped. But then I went into a night club and it had ray traced reflections and what seems like a billion light sources, completely tanked my framerate. Clearly that room wasnt optimized for ray traced lighting and reflections, and I think Elden Rings feels that way for the entire open world.

VRR will fix that

Report me if I continue to console war
This comparison is not very good, he keeps going between modes and often the video being shown is different to what he's talking about, for example when talking about the res difference between the xsx + ps5 is sound likes hes talking about framerate mode but he then shows a picture comparing quality mode.

He also contradicts himself, he says at the start the resolution difference between the xsx + pst "stands out", but then goes on to say the difference is barley perceptible.

Series X putting those extra flops to work.

I wonder how much worse it would perform if it had the same flops as the ps5.

Elder Ring
Cyberpunk Next-gen
Rainbow Six Extraction
Dying Light 2

Forget any?

Elden Ring: Yes.
Cyberpunk: Toss up. SX has slightly higher resolution, PS5 has 2% higher avg performance as per VGTech.
Rainbow Six: SX has streaming stutter at level launch, PS5 has lower average dynamic resolution as per ElAnalistaDeBits. VGTech did not cover it.
Dying Light 2: Outside of difference in shading in trees in the prologue area, SX is the only version which supports a 120 FPS mode. Not sure how you counted that as a PS5 'win'.

The only thing you got right was that we definitely are in February yet ;)
Rainbow Six stutter issue was patched as well - https://updatecrazy.com/rainbow-six-r6-extraction-update-1-03-patch-notes-1-000-003-official/

Dying Light 2 as a 'win' for PS5 is hilarious, resolution mode is higher res, performance mode is 80-100FPS vs 60FPS.

No point in having occassional smooth frame rate.

The dips become much more noticeable.

If it's wavering all the time, you get used to it and it just feels like standard 30fps game.

Just started playing this on series x , quality mode is literally pure trash I don't have a vrr tv and performance mode is the only way to play.
And this looks like last gen how the fuck can performance be this bad

20 seconds of loading vs 6.
How is this even possible?
It can’t be due to hardware.

TWENTY seconds. What year is it, From?

Make a stand against lazy developers, don’t give them your money ! Only than change will happen!
yeah sure, lazy developers who develop the best Game in years, a Masterpiece. Very lazy...
performance are more than fine on PS5, sadly I don't have a PS5, and my only choice is XSX.

You have numerous layers of lazy.. they clearly did a lazy on polishing and optimizing for a great experience all around . They could have delayed half a year and fix this .

If you read all reports of crashes and shit downs on PS5 and pc .. let alone SERIES, there is not good talking here ..

I’m actually shocked in the loading time on series x. Did they even use Xbox API? Hahaha there’s no way the loading should be that different.

what a mess technically, but I’m jumping into play so see you later tarnished.

With patches will be fine.

Playing on ps5 and performance SUCKS. The stuttering is happening every couple of seconds. This is a major bummer after seeing the Network test and everyone reporting how it was basically a smooth, locked 60. I didn't play the network test so I can't compare but I know stutters when I see them and this is pretty bad.

It makes me not want to play the game, honestly. The image quality is very soft on ps5 too. It's blurry. What pisses me off is that this is a) not pushing any technical boundaries and b) using some heavy upscaling and c) on a new fucking console generation so how can they not get this running at a locked 60?

Have you played it on ps5? It's not more than fine dude it stutters constantly and looks very soft. It doesn't feel good to play. Why do you feel compelled to defend developers despite the performance being worse than 90% of current gen games? I seriously don't understand this behavior from gamers. Does it just bother you too much seeing negativity from people even when it's warranted? I'm serious I want to know. If a game runs worse than 90% of games out there then what are people supposed to say about that?

No way to get a 97 on Meta if the situation were so critical as few of you are assuming...

Like Cyberpunk 🤣 all will be fine .. but that developer was slammed .. nice double standards ..
These two games are not on the same level, come on...go and check Meta, overall quality and performance. You're making things much bigger that what actually is.

Poor optimization for Xbox, performance difference is negligible, however the loading time is not.
If it's like the Network Test demo, you have the PS4 versions load very close to XSeries while the XBO versions can load up to 3x slower than their Sony counterparts.
It is clear that the coherent explanation is that the "magic HDD" of PS4...🤔😏

In short, it is clear, as was seen in the Network test, that the Xbox versions have not received much love.
