Elden Rings UK Sales Were 70~85% Digital. PS5 ~50% Digital - Xbox ~85% Digital - Breakdown By Platform Inside

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Posting this breakdown here so we can see that those boxed UK sales topics that get posted every now and then, how inaccurate they are.

The total breakdown of sales between the three platforms is pretty good and it seems like the widest majority of Xbox owners in UK like to buy their games digitally (Series S effect maybe).

GI.biz article:

According to GSD's figures, digital downloads accounted for over 68% of Elden Ring's sales. Xbox and PC were the biggest digital platforms. Almost 85% of Elden Ring sales on Xbox were downloaded, and on PC it was 73%. For PS5 and PS4, the sales were just over 50% digital.

According to GSD's digital and physical numbers, 32% of sales were on PlayStation 5, 30% on PC, 29% on Xbox and 9% on PS4.

Although most people already knew this, its nice to get some hard data to show Xbox users buy digital way more than PS users (90% for Vanguard too). The 'UK boxed physical sales' threads were beyond cringe and frustrating when people already knew this but pretended they didnt so they could console war.

2.5x Horizon FW likely means the game sold around 7-10 million copies in the first week or so worldwide. Thats cod numbers.
Ur assuming H2 did 3 million week 1. Everything is indicating it fell short of H1 launch numbers. Despite 130 million consoles out. It def has to do with releasing around a saturated ass market.

Destiny
Sifu
Elden ring
GT
Cyberpunk
Horizon 2

Stupid to release 5+ AAA games at once not expecting sales to be taken away from the other. It’s like Nintendo releasing Mario odyssey and then Zelda a week after? That’s stupid.

In the end the games still sale better on PlayStation which is what the UK threads point to.

That's crazy, 85% digital sales.

I mentioned prior that 9 of my friends had picked the game up for their series X/S and all of them went digital except me.
So even just with friends I talk with on Xbox, represents the figure pretty closely.

I think the 6000 rewards points and quick resume are big factors on the series consoles and obviously series s, before anyone tags me and mentions that (but only one of my friends has the S)

Wrong, HFW did better in UK than HZD

So even with digital included, Xbox ended up in 3rd place behind PC.

Its nice to finally have numbers that clearly shows that PlayStation is the lead platform of 3rd party games sales. Remember when some thought Xbox would match PS in sales if digital was included. Guess not.

I'm surprised at how well physical is holding on (looking at PS5 breakdown numbers).

Overall, congrats to the devs. They made a phenomenal game and deserve huge sales. T

Neither I get this stupid battle between digital and physical. I get physical and gonna stick with physical, but I not against people looking for digital.
The main focus of the thread is Elden Ring sales getting very high numbers.

I love game pass but digital was normalised long before game pass was a thing. Even Sony have like 80%+ of their games sold digitally.

It skews to digital for post first week games and smaller indies for sure. The thing of note is the first week sales for AAA games.

The people trying to use this to discredit the UK threads do realize that the game still sold 40% more on PlayStation right?
What some people discredited is that some tried to assimilate the percentages of physical box data with the reality of total sales.....

Not to mention that it is a "Soulgame" and the sum of PS4+PS5 is greater than the sum of XBO+XS..... Which is precisely the argument on which those themselves relied to defend 70% vs 17% and some even to "ask" certain games to stop being released on Xbox.

But ok for you just focus on one part 😉

41% of sales vs 29% of sales

Roughly 60mil XB1/ Series consoles vs roughly 130mil PS4/PS5 consoles.

I think Xbox is doing great and punching well above its weight.
People can keep changing the goalposts now hard data is showing you were wrong in those cringy boxed sales threads (funny how we havent had one since the 90% digital Vanguard sales on Xbox data too), but it doesnt change the fact that it was wrong, and most of you already knew it at the time.

It's very very bizarre. Externalizing some inherent quality to... something (??) that makes the difference between buying something on a certain format a pretext to duality

you do you I suppose

Am I reading the title wrong? UK digital sales were 70-85%? Then the comments confirm digital sales were overall just under 70%?

Digital price also seemed good from what I remember seeing (£50 when games go for £60/£70 these days).

What do you gain from this us vs them mindset? It's quite surreal and yet mildy intriguing
They have been shitting on digital store alot, saying you dont own anything.
It gives me smile, seeing 70% of users buying digital version, instead of the disc version.

Other than that, its harmless petty between us digital users and physical disc users.

We have fanboys from all places and different types.

I always say to stick with Physical because is my personal recommendation. I get my games from stores near to my apartament, but I buy one or two games (Doom 64, Street of Rage 4,...) digital. I'll never be against digital so I can't understand why so much stupid with this little digital x physical war.

I'm against DRM, not necessarily digital software.

not really. Most gamers right now buy digital. Since its cheaper access, compared to discs.
Only old fossil gamers buy discs in this current age.
I'm referring to the difference being associated to gamepass. It's more that they are manufacturing and selling mainly cheaper entry Series S consoles which have no disc drive. I'm not saying the majority buy one or the other.

People will always buy digital there because there is no drive. The Series S 'normalised' digital sales by having a cheap console without a drive, not gamepass.
