In case you wondered what open-world game Hidetaka Miyazaki likes the most

"In preparation for Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki studied some open-world games, including The Elder Scrolls or GTA. No title served as a specific inspiration for Elden Ring, but when asked which one he liked best, he expressed great respect for the design and the freedom of play in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."

Yeah, Elden Ring definitely draws inspiration from Breath of the Wild. The level of freedom in this game is nuts. Never seen anything like it, except maybe BotW and Skyrim, although Elden Ring is much more versatile in combat and weapon variety than either of those. NG+ and beyond is going be wild, going wherever you want with a fully equipped character.

I love how they seem to nail new elements first time around, being able to call your mount instantly and have such great control over how it moves is so nice compared to other games and that's before you get to the double jump.

I frankly think its not worth of a person time to read that an open world took inspiration from another.

The horse is the worst fucking thing in this game. It exists purely because this is an open world game and the player can only jump so high.

Thread worthy?

. . . not even close. This has been stated numerous times and doesn't need another ER is great thread. Just put it into the OT.

Wrong. Swirling my flail around while running through a crowd of baddies is marvelous.

Miyazaki said that in the past, Zelda, ICO are the games that he's inspired from. That's why his games are very old school

The freedom in BOTW and freedom in ER from the start are very similar to me, and i love it. Also love this man, I really hope for more soulslike from Miyazaki and FROM

I'm perceiving a trend of Nintendo fans feeling uncomfortable and a bit jealous/envy with Elden Ring and all the expectations and praise the game got.

Relax bros, no need to enforce the importance you guys see in BOTW. Breath of the Wild won't cease to exist because Elden Ring launched, and there's going to be a sequel to BOTW in the end of the year.

This thread is hilarious after all these people trying to say Elden Ring is nothing like botw.
Yepp, that's what I was thinking too. I thought the inspiration was obvious when I played Elden Ring, but FromSoftware fans can't or won't admit that Elden Ring has any sort of inspiration from BOTW, it's like in their eyes it's a blight or something. It's like they need Elden Ring to be perfectly unique and original in every way, or else it's something wrong with it.

Nintendo fans are chill, it's dark souls fans that hate when you compare a souls game to other game, but love when you compare other games to souls game. Also people using the excuse of Elden Ring to say botw is trash, when Miyazaki obviously played Elden ring and not assassin's Creed.

Sure, it is the same whenever any game reaches 95 and above on Metacritic. It's natural to start comparing games.

BOTW surely helped to reverse a lot of the bullshit Ubisoft-ish trends in the open world genre, and Elden Ring goes even futher. Very happy to see open worlds finally deliver on what they promised, instead of being mind-numbing lists of fetch quests and completion lists.
