DF: Elden Ring Back-Compat - Xbox Series X Running One X Code Can't Hit 60FPS

DF tried running One X version on Series X to see if they can hit 60 fps like the PS4 version running on PS5 does. The answer... well, no, the game runs like on Series X in Quality Mode, "almost worse actually", according con Alex. Tom says ir runs 2 to 3 ffps slower indeed.

The reason for that is that apparently the games doesn't use Series X GPU to push for higher fps, but for better visuals instead (resolution, shadows, AO and motion blur). They think the game does the same on PS5 but since the Pro version runs at 1800p CB the threshold is different, and that might be the reason for the better performance.

Amazing how From really couldn’t care less about the Xbox. That’s really sad tbh. There’s no reason to treat part of your userbase like that.
to be fair its not like any version runs very well... its just that Ps5 owners have an option that works out well for 60fps. also with VRR the series X version is fine. In fact its better than PC.

So why exactly does the PS5 version run poorer than the PS4 version?

I mean I'm not willing to trade the PS5's speedy load times (a godsend in a game like this) for a higher framerate, but I'd at least like to know.

¿?

Not sure what you mean. PS5 (and in fact Series X too) runs the gane way better than PS4 and PS4 Pro.

What runs better is the PS4 version on PS5. The reason for that needs no explanation: the game runs at a much lower rez and settings than the native PS5 version.

They kinda messed up every version didn’t they? They will be patching this for some time I suspect. Ok by me to wait a bit, watch some lore

Perhaps I'm just too casual to notice, but my game runs fine on my XSX natively with frame rate mode.
Yea, I'm too busy playing it and loving the game to really care, sometimes I think "too imagine sometime it'll even run better".

I'm loving the game, but I do hope they get their asses in gear and start optimizing soon.

In the meantime, my deaths aren't caused by sucking, it's FPS drops. /s

They don't care much about PS5 either it seems. At least not enough to make it run with acceptable performance. In fact, NO version runs well on its own platform, the only way to get good performance is to run the PS4 version on PS5. It's a mess.

The PS4 version loads really fast (sub 10 seconds) on PS5 if you install it on the internal SSD.

Out of all the version I've owned, I now prefer PS5 app with BC.

I'll take the lost of detail over Elden Stutter-Ring any day.

Its a shame I have to throw away my PC save, but the smooth experience is worth it.

I'm pretty sure the PS4 version running BC on PS5 still loads faster than the native XBSX version. The trade isn't as bad as you think.

This thread isn't for people who want to enjoy the games. It's for cheerleading, gloating and validation.

I understand some people are sensitive to minor performance differences and actually do enjoy the games more do to a stable framerate.

I'm just cranky because I know some people would be unable to enjoy one of my favorite games of all time, Ocarina of Time, because it runs at 4FPS.

To be fair, this was never intended to run this way due to how smart delivery works, so it was not something the devs put any effort into - they were barely able to get smooth performance for the PS5/XSX versions.
It was a good shot though.

To the surprise of no one. In legacy mode the PS5 has the greater advantage in numbers versus last gen (10.2 vs. 4.2 and almost double bandwidth), making it easier for them to push the results up. Basic math.

The situation of this game on Xbox platforms is totally incomprehensible and we only needed this "discovery" to curl the curl. I have no idea what they intended in XBO X. Compared to Sekiro both XBO and X have clearly seen their performance target worsen (and especially load times as already seen in the network test) while in PS they have kept it intact. They have limited themselves to carrying the code and that the scaling of the engine did the rest. The problem is that the engine seems to give priority to the resolution and graphic detail instead of the framerate and what you get is a version of the game far from what is preferable for a hardware with the advantages and possibilities of XBO X that should be, by far, the best oldgen version. It is noticeable that this goal was never attempted.

The game itself can be magnificent in the rest of the sections, but the technology and performance is a very important one and, in that aspect , it is 2/10 and therefore giving the perfect note is incomprehensible for me. I repeat my opinion again... A game with this level of performance and technology in more than capable machines should have been penalized and highlighted in some way in metacritic. If it had been an Xbox or PS first party game, or an EA game, UBi, capcom etc they would have seen penalty and criticism and in this case it has been blatantly overlooked. The thing is that if the voice is not raised, FromSoftware will do the same in its next game because it has appreciated that it does not penalize it.
