RGT: Playstation 5 Pro Is COMING - PS5 Pro Performance, Ray Tracing Innovations, Release Date & Specs

I think we will get a ps5 pro but whatever “leaks” happen take with a dump truck of salt.

I’d like to say we don’t really need a ps5 pro but we kind of do because of how intensive ray tracing is, and also for high resolution at 120fps.

————

ALSO we need a ps5 pro because ps5 doesn’t have the hdmi bandwidth for full 4:4:4 choma at 4k120fps with hdr ; ps5 is limited to 32gbps.

I hated chroma subsampling on ps4 pro so much that I set the console to output 1080p so I could retain 4:4:4 color in hdr. Didn’t really hurt image quality and in fact made it better sometimes because my tv was great at upscaling and the pro usually downsamples to 1080p and if it didn’t you got better fps.

On ps5 on a 2.1 tv I would just avoid 120fps modes in order to retain 4:4:4 chroma (which includes 40fps modes like ratchet) so yeah i’d like a ps5 pro eventually.

Report me if I continue to console war
This guy is not reliable.

I think pro versions are possible but unless they increase the SoC size the pure number crunching performance will be about 50% better on 5nm.

So we talking about 15 to 18tflops with improved clock speeds.

Im really not excited by that, some better resolution, some more ray tracing.. meh.

2 x gpu would put it above a 3090. Not going to happen on a $500 prebuilt.

Nothing is going to run at 4k120 anyway. Once next gen games come, everything will be 4k30 at best.

Native 4k 120? It just depends on the game man. Is there rt, how much detail etc. I do not think 60fps modes will go away.

Ps5 pro could do it but ps5 usually only hits 1080p or 1440p rarely in its games with 120 modes.

But I wasn’t really talking about everything being native 4k 120, but any extra juice for higher resolution and more stable 120fps, the better.

Heck we see how cross gen games are already struggling with their 60fps modes like dying light 2 and horizon.

I don't think even in the next year we will be able to walk in a store and buy a ps5 and they are talking about the pro lolz

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

oh yeah that totally sounds like a confirmation :messenger_smirking:

Its 100% coming and if you believe the whispers they already have working units with target specs and no I didn't click this guys videos.

I posted last week on Twitter these rumors would kick into high gear this week

Get ready for more
Do you have any info about the target release date for the PSVR2? The PSVR without parole channel is saying early next year. I hoped it would be sooner than that.

The whispers believe this is being built for enthusiasts and will be more expensive then current console price.
I was thinking 499/599 max, with a simple bump to RDNA 3, faster gddr6(still 16GB) and a CPU frequency increase it could work, it would be underwhelming though.

Maybe at the end of 2023. PS4 pro released 3 years after the PS4 so maybe? They will do the same as the PS4 Pro because of BC probably.

Dream-Knife Dream-Knife I think that, if a next gen only game doesn’t have a 60fps mode because it’s just that intensive and the devs really really don’t want to lower the resolution (or they REALLY hammer the cpu), then a 40fps mode will be acceptable. IF they release a ps5 pro with the full hdmi bandwidth.

Because that’s an issue for current ps5 as well because you can’t have 4:4:4 chroma at 4k120hz output for either 40 or 120fps gameplay and outputting 1080p on current ps5, if a game scales all the way from native 4k with taa to 1080p abd the tv scales it up it will really muddy the image (example, crash bandicoot 4). This wasn’t a problem for ps4 pro as nothing was really native 4k and if it was it wasn’t using TAA.

But again I do think 60fps modes are going to be the norm, but we will see.

I have zero info about PSVR2 sadly
Yes! Bring it. I want it. Christmas 2022. I’ll buy it and the Xbox Pro too. Make them $599 or more and pack them with power. Let me forget about PC.
All. In.

If it can't do PS5 Fidelity Modes at 60fps than it's useless. Make it 1K+ and call it a day.

Thousands of people already paid close to this for the regular one.

That’s too expensive to move many units but I definitely think it will be 600 or more. Kind of has to be 600 minimum because of inflation.

There’s no way this thing wouldn’t run fidelity modes at double the fps and depending on the game will see bigger upgrades than that.

I don’t understand the point not to replace the PS5 with a Pro because people can’t yet buy the PS5 freely.

When you do find a console, wouldn’t you be happier if it is the Pro? Assume they ship just as many over the same time period. Why do they need to keep shipping base models? Move the platform forward.

Phones, cars, so many things get new better models every year. 5-6 year console cycles before a new model are ridiculous IMO. It should be 2-3 at the most.

2x PS5 GPU would be ~20 Tflops, similar to the 6800XT, given the same architecture.

That level of performance will already be midrange later this year, seems like a reasonable target for a 2023-2024 console box.

Glad to hear it, PS5 base will look old in two years.

2x GPU raster performance
2.5x RT performance
5nm TSMC
2023-2024
End of 2024 we are facing RTX 5000/RX 8000 Generation. We‘ll see big performance leap this year. Also todays RDNA 2 is lacking in Raytracing Performance and consoles even more with the cutdown chip. In other words: In terms of 2024 we‘re talking midclass system performance comparing to PC. Just like with the last launch and the launch before and the launch before. Still 499 device. These rumors are trash bait. They just claim whats logical wirh general statements.

Man i want to want this but if the damn thing is as big or bigger than the current PS5 i just can't. I already have multiple full size tower computers in my house haha If they find a way to improve performance but slim it down i will buy one. Not buying a PS again until they figure out how to shrink the footprint.

Let me see.

Sell hardware for premium price.
People can still buy the ps5.
Current hardware configuration of ps5 is restricting sales.

Could make PS5 the lowest level of development platform.

I’m failing to see where this is a bad idea…

I think we're likely to see a PS5 Pro in 2024 Q2/Q3 and I think this generation will last as long as the PS3 generation.

Well, it may very well happen though I would not have expected any info ttill maybe about the 3rd year mark. We are only at about 15 months right now.

I think its a guess that hopefully comes true that he can claim as the insider that broke it. If it doesn't come out they can say that due to the ship shortage they decided not to do it.
It's an easy guess really. Let me see if I can do it.
CPU - Zen 3, 8 Core 16 thread @4.1-4.3ghz. Variable (I think this has worked out for Sony)
GPU - RDNA 3, 72CU @ 2.2-2.4ghz.
18-20 GB GDDR6 RAM @
1tb NVME SSD at the same speed as the PS5. No need to increase it at this point.

I mean, we know that Sony's BC relies on the number of CUs for ease of compatibility, so why change a formula that has worked for them.
They won't add too many functions like Mesh Shaders, VRS etc as the pro needs to be a similar platform as the OG PS5. The next gen will introduce those additional functions.

Having said that, once the rumours come out about the Pro models being made it's about 2 years before we actually see them, making it around Nov 24 release.
