Screw that, make it 799-899 and just don't cut any corners. Let us run the new games in quality mode at 4k60 instead of 4k30.
Lol. Not gonna happen. If you want high end, PC is where its at. They'll cut PS5 price and then sell PS5Pro at $499.

Sony should do it every 2-3 years now. with 2 way full compatibility there is no reason not to. and plenty of reasons to do it.

1- no install base reset. it's gradual phase out based on developer decision, not platform decision.
2- slows migration to PC by lowering the mid-gen power gap. can even compete further by introducing premium $1000 models.
3- grow the 2nd hand market that will significantly reduce the price for base models sooner than usual.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The chip shortage is the biggest deterrent against mid-gen revisions in the near future.

I expect this gen to last longer than the average generation, so there may be refreshes, but not within the next 2 years, no way. Most major chip manufacturers are completely booked, for Sony to have a new console ready in a year or two, they would need to have an ample supply of chips, which they're not able to get a hold on for the base PS5s as they are.

Not surprising. For the none-believers please realize that

PS4 launched in November 2013
PS4 Pro launched in Novemeb3r of 2016.

PS5 launched in Novemeber 2020
PS5 Pro will most likely launch in November 2023.

My only concern is/are chip shortages. Not sure how they will deal with this.

For the Pro, the chip size will have to be smaller. The 5 nm chips will all be bought out by the the big boys if they haven't already, so that would leave the Pro with the 6 nm chips left over when all the major companies have moved on to the 5 nm platform. Of course, we are talking about 2-3 years from now.

Not gonna lie this would piss me off - there’s barely any exclusives to Ps5 yet - I’d prefer they do this in a couple years

Honestly I doubt a pro model happens this gen. Much more likely to see a slim in a year or two and ride that out til ps6.

Glad to hear it, PS5 base will look old in two years.

2x GPU raster performance
2.5x RT performance
5nm TSMC
2023-2024
2023-2024 sounds perfectly reasonable, people are freaking out for no reason, the original PS5 is 3-4 years old by then.
If it looks better and is silent I’ll buy it.

The big question here is, which parts of the PS5 are making problems. It could make perfectly sense to get the PS5 Pro out as fast as possible, because the redesign could improve in this area. Sony could design around those shortages, using additional processes and additional fabs to get as much consoles out to the customers as possible. They also could raise the price tag easily and get more money out of it.

Microsoft's reasoning for the Xbox Series S was that we wouldn't see a slim revision of the Series X this generation. They didn't expect the next expected process change to yield size / cost ratio reductions comparable to previous console generations. If that holds true, it means we won't see a shrinking of the hardware, or, we won't see a reduction in the cost to manufacture it. So, if Microsoft got it right, a PS5 Pro will either have to be larger than the PS5 to get more performance, or, it'll have to be a lot more expensive to deliver it. I'll be curious to see what Cerny and co have cooked up to get around this stuff, or, if Microsoft was off in its predictions. Sony has also been pushing the "premium" angle for everything next gen; the console, games, and controllers are all a good bit more expensive than their last-gen counterparts. If they drop a PS5 Pro, it may end up being a very expensive machine. Can't wait to see more!

What's the point of a Pro model when the base model can't stay in stock? Yes, there's future-proofing, but hardware costs are a big deal, and best to be avoided. I don't see why Sony won't milk the base model for years.

I very much doubt it, although I definitely wouldn’t mind. A Ps5 Pro or Ps5 Slim would be right up my alley.

Whether his specific rumors are correct or not, it's safe to say that Sony is planning a PS5 Pro. I don't expect it in 2023, but just 2x the GPU power shouldn't be excessively difficult to launch at a decent price and form factor in 2024.

Not buying argument about chip shortage or whatever.

If true then I imagine that this will be great for their new VR headset. A more enthusiast device sounds great, I’ll preorder if it ends up getting announced.

What an embarrassing state of affairs console gaming has become if this is even remotely true. Basically Sony wont have released any true ps5 exclusive games by the time the ps5 pro launches. What’s the point in PSVR 2 if there will be a better box for it within a year of launching?

Edit: just woke up on the wrong side of the bed lol!

also, good luck in trying to supply demand for three different boxes and having a PlayStation that costs 600 to 800 dollars a unit. I just can’t see this making sense three years in this gen. These consoles were supposed to be the end of the shit cpu console and back to delivering something bleeding edge.

so devs will need to be developing for ps4, ps5 and ps5 pro within 3 years of the consoles launching. Sounds great.

just give me good games, I don’t care about resolution and bells and whistles including raytracing. Elden Ring is literally the best game in 5 years and it’s not a looker like horizon.

At this point the current PS5 would be harder to make (esp in 1.5 years if you know whats happening fab wise) than a Pro Model would given the current situation

A pro or slim with minor upgrades would be a good idea anything to get that ugly system away from the public consciousness ugh
Although I didn't want a Pro model this time, what you said makes sense and might be the reason why.

Can't believe I got tricked into watching this video. He had nothing of anything to say.
2 X raster, which would be double the CUs which everyone knows will be Sony's next GPU design, and 2.5 times the Ray Tracing performance, which is what he would be expecting from AMDs own improvements in RT performance.

You don't know jack shit but if you create some crazy rumors about something everyone is 101% certain that will come out you look beliaveble.
