Bungie May Have as Many as 4 New Projects in the Works

Right now the Destiny developer has a massive 113 open positions available across all disciplines, from programming, art, audio, accounting, and brand management. A cursory glance shows Bungie is developing new IP, possible new Destiny 2 content, and unannounced games--all of which may be in development separately and/or in tandem with one another.

1. Incubation Project(s)

Bungie is hiring 29 positions related to unannounced games. Of these, 13 of which are for Bungie's incubation teams, which aren't technically categorized as "Unannounced Projects" on the job board.

2. New IP

Bungie has been working on new IP for a while now. Past job listings indicate the new IP will be a live service game with a fluctuating in-game economy.

The studio has 8 job listings that directly mention new IP. All of these job listings are marked in the Unannounced Projects category. Some games in the Unannounced Projects category do not mention new IP directly, which possibly indicates their being part of Destiny 2 content expansions.

3. New Destiny Content

Bungie is also developing new Destiny content as part of its unannounced project category (which shouldn't be a surprise).

Plus there's a job listing for a Product Manager - Unannounced Project that may confirm Destiny is officially coming to China in some form via external partners and outsourced development teams.

4. New Self-Published Titles

Bungie wants to self-publish its own games and is opening a new studio in Amsterdam that will focus on publishing. This particular section likely includes incubation and new IP and isn't necessarily a separate project on its own, but I thought it was worth including to highlight Bungie's plans.

Wrap-Up

Bungie says it wants to release multiple new games by 2025. The studio is ramping its teams to make this happen. Remember that Sony plans to acquire Bungie for $3.6 billion. Sony also wants to have at least 10 live service games on the market by 2026. Bungie's plans overlap with Sony's live service ambitions, and it's highly likely that all of Bungie's new projects are online-based GaaS titles.

While I think that is a nice thought. I really doubt it considering their output but I will certainly be arms wide open to have my doubts squashed. Not talking about small projects or nonsense either.

It shouldn't be a shocker. They're a massive developer well over 1000 in headcount

i wonder if sony will get bungie to do a more traditional single player game to go along with those live service games.
I mean the actual Destiny 2 campaigns were decent, short but decent. Of course you cant even play most of them now as Bungie took them out of the game.
Yeah you cant even play the Destiny 2 campaign in Destiny 2 lol, good job Bungie.

i never cared for destiny so i had no idea but that sounds stupid. why did they take them out?

It was bloating the game's size and causing issues due to the spaghetti code. Not enough players engaging in the content to justify keeping it in
The fact that people paid money for Destiny 2, and money for the expansions, should of been enough justification.
At least put the campaigns as a seperate download for the poeple that paid for them. A few games on Steam do that.

If the back end can't support it then no that's not enough justification

Then have them as a seperate download like i said, detached from the main game.
Steam is full of 15+ year games, do you think Valve just take them off Steam because they dont get many downloads?, of cours not because people paid money for those games.

I think I'm the only person who didn't care for this purchase. Bungie focuses on online-only mechanics and gameplay that I just don't care for. But hey, here's hoping they make Sony a lot back in returns.

Given how the campaigns interweave with the game's world and aren't contained modes that sounds like a terrible idea and a waste of time to build.

I really wish Sony still had a portable, then I could live in my head for a while wishing for and imagining one of these games was a handheld spin-off/experimental project like Sony used to make with its PSP & Vita titles.

It'd be nice. The money is in GAAS, and Sony bought them for their experience in that field, but still, a single-player project would be a nice change of pace (plus, I rarely play online games, so this'd be more my type of game if they did one, even if it was something mid-scale or whatever that might be.)

Not at all, i played through the campaigns solo. Sure they would have to do a bit of tinkering, but you're missing the point. They took away content people had paid money for.
There is no justification for this, and you shouldnt really be trying to.

Lol fuck off with the strawman. The outrage over this was long ago and most people have moved on and don't care.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

me too. i actually hope they use the money for other studios, oh well. Since they are the businessman i guess they know what they are doing.

Online content disappears, most people who buy online game content get this and just have to accept it. That said, though, I agree that this sucks and should not be the case as much as can possibly be avoided.

Would have been cool if Bungie could have launched like a Destiny Legacy app where you could play discontinued content offline (or at least unconnected from the progression servers.) Some people would consider it a waste, to have old portions of the game have no contribution to your progress, but that's better than them just straight out no longer accessible.
