Grand Theft Auto 5 PS5 Version Gameplay - Peformance RT

what happen to the water? It looks like white caps are gone and it just looks way worse.

Yeah, I noticed that. GTA V's water rendering was stunning for its time and still looks awesome in the PS4 version but the new game seems to have reduced quality water effects. Could it be to keep the game at 60 fps? Looking forward to the inevitable Digital Foundry "Deep Dive" (no pun intended) on the PS5 and Xbox Series X version.

In comparison this was the free state of decay 2 update for next gen

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Do we have a confirmed list of exactly what RT this has ?

Shadows, reflections, GI ?

I think it looks great, at least better than what I was expecting 🤷‍♂️

I'll be happy to buy and play it! The single player campaign is amazing, I have no idea what people are complaining about. Certainly a lot more fun and enjoyable to me than RDR2.

I prefer RDR 1 though, but GTA V is still one of my favourite games for the past 15 years, at least.

Looks like a fucking gta 5.
Same shitty game with graphics that are less and less impressive....
I still can't believe how they butchered the story with tryhard satire and 3 pointless characters.
And most importantly - how they butchered euphoria physics and car physics. They could've tightened turn radius a bit, sure. But now the car just teleports few inches up when yo go up the curb. Stiff suspension

in both Performance and the other 30 FPS mode ? a bummer if that's the case.
Both use the same RT settings it looks like. Fidelity adds higher res SS/cubemap reflections, further draw distance etc.

In these pics it’s the same shading between the two and no extra AO/GI that I can see. So it seems shadows are the only thing being ray-traced.

And sure enough the PC version is showing the exact same banding shadows as the fake video while the PS5 doesn’t.

Man...

Its basically PC version with a bit better draw distance and some RT reflections/shadows?

Im kinda pissed at Microsoft and sony for allowing or doing themselves such measly upgrades for a "native" version and charging for it.

GTA V doesn't have as many cars as, say, the Spider-Man games because of design reasons. Have too many cars and you would find yourself unable to navigate in between all that traffic, specially during police chases. The navigation of the environments in Spider-Man doesn't take place at ground level, so of course those games have much more traffic, since they are all pretty much background scenery.
There are ways to mitigate it but yes it would be harder but cooler. Lack of pedestrians and general life is still an issue. They still look like vast empty cities and they pull me out immersion wise.

It’s a next gen update, not a remaster. That will come later 😜

These consoles don’t have the RT power to accelerate shadows and reflections (much less GI) at 60fps. Cold War did rt shadows and barely kept 60fps.

Improved I guess, but it still looks like a PS3 game with the settings cranked up. All materials in particular look very flat, no PBR here. That could have gone a long way towards making this look like a modern release (but would of course have required effort).

there are no RT reflections. so shadows or GI only, and barely visible compared to PC ultra from what I have seen so far.
at least I have not seen any rt reflections yet, and you'd assume they would be obvious with so many videos out there now

Well that was underwhelming - it looks about the same.
What did you expect? It's the same shit like they did with the "Definitive" Edition. Nobody was invited for a preview.
No gameplay videos before the releasedate. Just let the clueless sheep preorder and enjoy your quick cashgrab.

Game will sell millions and again physical copies one month later to prevent dissapointed people selling thousands of used copies on eBay. Yeah I know they sell this update for 10 bucks. Makes physical copies completely useless until they raise the price for digital.

Have you ever driven in downtown LA? it's maddening, you always have to wait to make turns because there are constantly people in the crosswalks lol at the same time it's not like the sidewalks are packed like NYC, people do mainly drive here so I don't know why anyone would think they don't have enough people walking the streets in this game unless they picture LA as NYC.

It's an optional $10 upgrade for people who have it on PS4 and $20 for xbox it's not like they didn't have to pay people to make the upgrades that they did make so you shouldn't expect them to be free, this was announced a year and a half ago so they've been working on them longer than that.

The definitive had a lot more new technologies added, but they messed up the art style and made things look even weirder then the blocky character models of the PS2 era.

Here it looks like literally the PC version.

Not that much different to a fps boosted BC version, besides resolution.

No GI from what I’ve seen. I haven’t seen any RT reflections, if there are any it would probably just be with the changing room mirror and that’s it.

The RT shadows though are noticeably less glitchy than PC version especially on close up shots of characters, and in certain scenes it really does improve the shading a lot:

At around 7:20 with the girl on the beach, the girl has noticeably improved self shading and the sand castle in the background by comparison doesn’t look like it has any shading at all on PC. It’s minor in the grand scheme of things image-wise but it’s still an improvement.

They've upped the amount of cars and pedestrians in this version though, be interesting to see if that is true.

Why can't the uber rich company like Rockstar get shit like this right ?

Good question. I assume they are worried about some way to game the micro-transaction system by making you migrate one time. But sports games have allowed you to play either generation's version since launch I believe, so that excuse wouldn't really hold water IMO, assuming that is the excuse. As for not transferring profiles between eco-systems, Fortnite has been allowing you to play the same profile on any system for quite a while. So not sure why they don't have the same system in place.

It might be the codebase might be too different to be compatible between platforms, and constantly having to save a character on two separate databases to avoid that would double the server load for each player. If that’s the case it’s the writing on the wall that last gen is getting ditched at the next corner for GTAO updates.

You couldn't play the PS3 version once you upgraded to PS4 either.
For PS5 version there are going to be new upgrades to cars that aren't compatible with PS4. New engine upgrades etc.

In a post under the video they say they're using the NaturalVision Evolved graphics mod on PC, so it's not really a fair comparison.

biggest difference in the whole game seems to be the snow textures in the beginning lmao
