*shit ass games "journalists" who suck ass at games using people with disabilities as a crutch
Interesting point : how will the gaming gentry react now that their narrative about difficulty being toxic has been so obviously defeated ?

We know (and they know) that those types don't care about what the games they consume - they are only motivated by their FOMO on the new big thing of the day in their social circles. Will they begin to ignore From in their criticism starting from now ?

12 Millions in roughly two-weeks-and-change (and keep in mind that given how these things usually go at a corporate level, the public statement probably started being prepared and send to the press few days before).

Also, the game is STILL the best selling title globally on Steam now, and I expect it to "have long legs" over time. Yeah, I can easily see this eventually going over 20 millions in its first year alone.

Now, a little too soon, obviously, but what will be next? EldenRing2? DS4 open world? Bloodborne2 open world?
A Bloodborne game in the past, when Hunters were common, all around Yharnam (it can use the original one with little touches), with more cities, mountains with caves/dungeons, forests with lost huts, a castle pehaps and beast bounties... Oh my...

Absolutely well deserved.

This makes me so happy for them, honestly. FromSoftware is a dev that I admit I didn't quite get in the very beginning, especially with Demon's Souls. But when it clicked, it clicked hard, and now I "get it." Elden Ring, to me, has been one of the best (if not THE best) game that I've played in the past decade, I'm pretty sure. There have been good and great games within that time, sure. But I'm talking about the feel and flow of everything in the package. I don't remember the last time I spent THIS much time in a game and I'm STILL discovering new areas, items, enemies, etc.

I mean, I'm over 120 hours+ and level 151. Stuff just keeps coming!

A Bloodborne sequel in the vein of Elden Ring would be mind blowing...

Well deserved. The game is unique and special. The open world aspect gives us noobs a chance to taste the experience of a souls like game.

Assassin's Creed: Elderly rings coming soon.

Why are so many people bringing up Sony buying FromSoft
Because Sony said it has more acquisitions coming and they had a budget already approved for that.
So they are expeculating who it will be.

But I don't believe it will a Japanese Studio... I think Sony wants western studios.

And they have some skillset/experience in mind... that is how the others purchases happened.

I mean thats fine, but FromSoft already has a parent company

Unlike many here i don't think Sony will aquire Fromsoft, not only Fromsoftware are already aquired by Tencent but also this very talented studio is too Japanese for modern Sony.

Yeap... the purchase talk was about the parent company... Sony even acquired 2% of it shares.
But like I said I think they will go with a western studio.

i don't think devs studios usually get royalties, it's mostly bonuses for milestones.
The ones swiming on cash is probably Bamco.

It also, obviously, assures that the next fromsoft project is going to have no problems securing a budget, i hope they go selfpublished for the next game so they can cash in all this popularity.
I'd find it pretty strange if From hadn't negotiated at least some profit sharing into their contract with Bamco this time around.

Gamers are voting with their wallets. Seems like buying games that aren’t available via a monthly subscription is still a big thing.

"Souls" games are now officially mainstream. Two things I hope, From Software, doesn't let this success go to their heads and start cranking out cookie-cutter games, and each release is unique as Eldin Ring is to Sekiro, and Sekiro to Dark Souls. Secondly, I hope other publishers down rush to clone Souls games, sometimes people need to stay in their lanes if they are on the right path.

I really hope games won’t follow the difficulty too closely. I finished the game but it was such a bs with some bosses. Like constant ringed city + difficulty. I almost feel like cheesing using spirit summons and other mechanics and still just barely beating last bosses

Deserved. Fantastic game.

Will this now be the standard for open world RPG's?

No, just like all the amazing stuff BotW did for the genre didn't become standard (surprisingly few games have copied that one). I think most devs just aren't creative or talented enough to make a game like that or this, so we get mostly the typical Ubi-style open worlds.

The game that has heavy BOTW inspiration is Genshin Impact. One of the most profitable and popular games in the world this past year.

Common sentiment on GAF is that Sony should buy FS. Why? I don’t know. FS, with all due respect, would lose a lot of their identity if they lose Miyazaki. Just like Smash wouldn’t be Smash without Sakurai. I’m not sure it’s worth anyone buying a studio where all of the execution is pretty much dependant on one man. We saw what happened with Dark Souls 2, which despite being a solid game, is pretty much seen as the black sheep of the family by most fans.

Oh don't bother. I remember one guy making a thread saying how much he liked Wreckfest and his immediate reaction was declare "SONY SHOULD BUY THIS STUDIO!!!". Its impossible to comprehend the thought process of some of these people.

Why would they lose Miyazaki? Sony would allow him to remain the head and give him creative freedom. Also plenty of development budget. Win win

FromSoft ticks all Sony’s boxes for acquisition. History of working with Sony, Has good relationships with Sony. Make critically great games. Sony owns 2% of Kudokawa meaning they have some sort of relationship.

The metacritic rating and sales will convince Sony quick time to buy

I'm glad we got facts that steamspy is irrelevant. I don't know why anyone sites it since the changes.

Because it helped people in their crusade against UBISOFT and GUERELLA GAMES. . . that they were waging for some reason. Anyone with an ounce of common sense would realize (and should realize now) that a game developer going "open world" isn't going to be enough to generate two to four times the sales of their last game. . .on PC alone.

. . .even now people are going all in on some wild predictions for the legs of this game. My money is that this is a wildly front-loaded game with the majority of folks wanting to get in early to enjoy the community aspect of the game. However, now you've got to convince the people who normally wouldn't touch a Soulsgame with a ten-foot pole that this will be a personally rewarding game for them. Might be a hard sell.

I hope that more games will follow the "dump me in a world and don't tell me shit so I can figure it out by myself" formula now given Elden Ring, Breath of the Wild success. Heck, Tunic just dropped and it seems to follow the same idea and it's also reviewing well.

Exploration is rewarding and shouldn't be overlooked.

Huge success and so well deserved.

Also, I really hope they stay 3rd party. They absolutely banked on a wide audience (sales opportunity) when designing this game that is very unique for people like me. I do not want them changing anything about how they approach games to fit someone else's expectations or to account for a reduced audience.

Yeah, a Chinese clone game (I know the gameplay isn't really anything like BotW, but DAMN have they ripped off a lot of stuff). But other than that?

Traverse and climbing aspect sure, but the cell shaded look wasn't started by BOTW.

No, but this game looks almost exactly like BotW. It has the same opening shot of the open world etc. And then there's the glider and a bunch of other stuff that's so obviously ripped right out of BotW even if that game didn't invent those things either.

hype and word of mouth do wonders..just today, as insignificant a personal example might be, a collegue that never tried a souls game told me he was thinking about buying the game just to see what the fuss was all about
