Gran Turismo 7 has been largely unplayable for half a day due to extended server maintenance (VCG)

We see what you are doing. Enough. Take your buddies advice and “Go Outside and play”
What an asanine argument.

Imagine a crook breaks into you house steals your playstion and the cop says "Shit happens. I understand what you want, but life is not always going to give it to ya. No matter how much you pay for it." "Go play outside or something"
Comparing server issues with someone breaking into your house?
Ok. I get ya. Well then. You can continue to be pissed off and feeling miserable about this.

Terrible analogy. Internet goes down, you call the cops

You: "Yo, somebody stopped my internet, investigate immediately!

Cops: "Internet goes out sometimes. Shit happens."

I pay a premium for my actual internet. Guess what, that goes down too. Power outage, light bill paid what you gonna do?

Hope you're not one of those that go out on an expensive dinner, order the most expensive stuff on the menu, get a waffle, a pat on the back, a waitress telling you "we are out of what you ordered, but we got you this thing instead" and still pay for the expensive stuff.

1 your combing the two. 2 this isnt the same thing as the internet going out. Like i said before im pissed about the single player.

No there really isn't.

The design choice will severely hamper the games longevity.
No it won't.

Some people won't buy it because of online-only/mtx, but they'll be few and far between. The game will be supported for years. This is a huge franchise regardless of your feelings.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Just because we know this requires an online check for SP, means it won't be a viable game for preservation after a few years unless they completely remove the online check part of the game.

This isn't a feeling, it's a fact.

A few years lol.

Let alone any time the servers are down for whatever reason, like now, that people won't be able to access single player either.

It's ok to acknowledge this as a shortcoming. We really don't have to bend over backwards to try and defend our favorite brand ™ every time.

Apparently FIA required the online requirement to prevent cheaters in the eSports mode.

If that's true, they could always patch it so that you must be online to access that competitive mode while the rest of it can be played offline.

They can just very well tie the Esports mode to Online required and let people play the solo parts offline.

Man locking the single player behind an always online connection was a major design mistake and this couldn’t have been a better example of it. I’m really enjoying the game but I was pretty angry last night. They need to change it and allow us to do local saves. The “cheating” explanation seems wild. Also what do they care if people cheat in single player? Or are they talking about the Sport mode (which you need online for anyway?)

No there really isn't.

The design choice will severely hamper the games longevity.

Surely Sony/PD need to prevent cheaters obtaining in game credits illegitimately?! (I have no idea if this would be possible though). Their whole MTX model is based on in game credits spending.

If you're worried about not having access to the game in a few years, maybe you shouldn't buy it - or sell it if you actually own it.

This has been a fucking disaster, tried to play today and it's just loading to nowhere.

Is the game still down? Looking to do my daily racing shortly when I can get away

Still down based on the latest feedback I can find online

Ridiculous.

Why not rollback to the last update and up the server?

Wait a couple of days for a new update is way more reasonable than waiting one or more days to play the game.

Drm is a part of console gaming, it's not a big deal overall. Servers are up 99.9 of year, same with power and internet in most places.

Have I missed a decade or something where single player games are now always online as the defualt without any pushback?

Where the hell did this new argument of "oh I pay for Internet anyway" suddenly come from? I have never heard this terrible false equivalence before and yet 3 people have suddenly decided to repeat it today across GT7 threads.

Yeah. Imagine paying Premium for something and this happening.
Up next. Cars that require an internet connection to run.

Edit: I remember a few years back a certain console maker got raked over the coals for requiring a daily internet connection.

It started sometime around E3 2013 by a bunch of diehards 🤫

Damn it just keep getting worst for GT7 a shame really

Iv been enjoying my time with it (although the secondhand dealership refresh takes foooooooorever)

however I can't help but look forward to the new Forza Motorsport especially when I can't play the game because servers are down when I don't even want to play online.

Come on Sony just give up on this part of the game and let me play offline.

People have been bludgeoned over and over again with such shitty practices that their expectations have fallen incredibly low. There are even arguments being made now that people who desire a working product are acting unreasonably entitled.

I'm sure these billion dollar corporations love that their customers are starting to bend themselves over willingly and defend the corporations' shitty practices.

It's a crazy new world right. You can read the reactions right here on GAF

Someone is gonna be called a Karen for wanting to play their single player game they paid 80 bucks for, you just watch

I had given up for the night, but yes it is still unplayable.

They must have fucked up real bad. The last patch only broke tires in some events.

This also happened at the worst time where Reddit and GT Planet are already shitting on the new patch and in game economy.

It feels like GT7 dropped the ball a bit overall anyways. Forza Motorsports is doing a whole new engine and only on Xbox Series consoles and could be better.

It's called modern technology, it happens. Sorry it offends you. It does appear you missed a decade.

Remember about two months ago when everyone was living in a Mad Max apocalypse without internet?

I can’t tell if this is a serious post
He's totally right. I remember how the original Gran Turismo couldn't be played if you didn't have a dial-up connection. Everyone back then would often have to do other things after booting their Playstations and finding their single player game was no longer playable due to online issues. You probably don't remember because that's how spoiled you've become.

But at least people aren't cheating to earn nice cars. Now only those who pay money... er... I mean invest time in this game can have the best cars.
