Sounds like a much better effort than the dreadful Evil Within 2. Excited to day one this game. An action horror game set in Japan is right up my alley.

From an options perspective they really stepped up their effort, now i'm curious how it does performance wise although I can't recall having performance issues with evil within 2. Evil Within 1 was a shitshow though.

First thing I'm turning down is raytraced reflection and shadows. No need for those options to be maxed out. Full resolution raytraced reflection are a waste of resources.

Looks like it wipes the floor with the ps5 version. I don't think the game looks that great though and would've preferred the Evil within 3. From the previews I've seen the open world structure looks very rote, the side quests are kinda standard shallow fare, and the combat looks repetitive. I'm seeing a lot of 7's and a few 6's and 8's as review scores. I've also seen people saying that it doesn't control all that well.

I hope I'm wrong but we'll see but as of now I'm not hyped.

Tag, you're it.
Here's some PC footage with RT enabled and set to max apparently.

First minute of this gameplay: follow a ghost that does an annoying sound every second and goes slower than you even when you walk. There is already a lot of bad design choices for less than a minute, it's probably the start of the game but still...
But Evil Within I&II where good so wait and see I guess.

Would assume that it is the start with the tutorial messages popping up. Evil Within 1 had you doing that slow follow thing aswell at the start, it's not something I enjoy either.

Marketing for this one is even worse than it was for Deathloop, I don't think Bethesda/Sony has much faith for it, why should I?

Ray-traced Culling quality. That's a new one.

Yeah, what does that mean? Culling as in geometry culling using rays somehow? Or culling the number of ray bounces?

Need DF or someone to get the devs to explain. Could be some interesting new technique!

EDIT: "Culling distance for ray traced effects." Thank you, Mister Wolf Mister Wolf ! I got excited there for a minute thinking someone use ray tracing to improve some atypical aspect of the rendering pipeline.

Look at the video I posted. It explains what the setting does in a description at the bottom.

As a entry level RTX card owner (3050 8GB), I very much appreciate the DLSS support here. There are also a good amount of laptop 2060 and 3050 chips that run on lower wattage, too, all of which could really use the leverage of their tensor silicon to get their performance up at native res (especially when using RTX as well).

Really hope DLSS becomes more standard so this is a very nice surprise!

Its nice that they've given us more control over the raytracing functionality. Most raytraced games don't. Culling is an easy setting to utilize if you want to claw back performance but refuse to give up any raytracing features.

Ghostwire Tokyo is a new IP from The Evil Within studio Tango Gameworks. However, unlike the third-person survival horror of those games, Ghostwire Tokyo is something we rarely see, a Japanese-developed first-person shooter. So lets break down everything you need to know about the latest game from Tango Gameworks, Ghostwire Tokyo.

The game places you into the shoes of a young student in Tokyo named Atiko Izuki, who wakes up after being hit by a car. After, Izuki is saved by KK, not to the singing dog from Animal Crossing, but a mysterious spirit who merges with Izuki a la Shadow of Mordor, giving Izuki new supernatural abilities. This ultimately proves to be incredibly helpful given that nearly all of Tokyo’s residents have mysteriously disappeared, and dark spirits now roam the streets, looking to take down anyone who might still be left.

Great point! It's kind of meme how so many PC gamers opt for "RTX off" because otherwise it halves your FPS or worse, but that's probably because most games don't let you cull the distance that it's used.

I'm impressed with their PC port for this game. For some reason I wasn't expecting much there, but in fact they offer quite a lot of PC-specific features and settings customization.

FROM Software, please take note, if you can read this through the piles of cash you're drowning in.

I would be interested how your 3050 handles RT Shadows and Reflections on low with adjustments to the culling, and DLSS of course.

I'll report if/when I get to play it for sure. Hopefully it'll be on GamePass. GW:T actually recommends a slightly faster GPU than the 3050 (gtx 1080 recommended) so I was concerned until I saw it supports DLSS.

I run my 3050 at 2100/8300 and undervolted at 1.0v which gets me around 10-15% more FPS than stock (depending on the game), which has it trading blows with a stock 2060 (also depending on the game) and usually beating it at 1080p in less bandwidth-limited games and scenarios. The 2060 still edges it out by a couple frames where bandwidth gets hit hard like in Cyberpunk, for sure because of the vram interface difference (and PCI-E difference). The RTX features seems to run a little faster on the 3050 at 1080p probably just because of being 1 generation newer.

EDIT: I think the actual entry level for RTX right now is the laptop 3050 4GB running at probably 55w commonly, but can come in configurations all the way down to like 35w maybe? That would be a very interesting test to see how games like this can run! DLSS would be completely necessary probably.

You base your game purchases on marketing? 😅
Not exactly, but it kinda tells me that company isn't very confident in it's product. I really liked TEW 1/2, Dishonored 2, Wolfenstein The New Colossus. All those games had pretty poor marketing campaign and yet I bought them day 1.

Yoooooooo! separate sliders for the quality of each RT effect? THAT IS HOW ALL GAMES SHOULD DO THIS! and even a draw distance slider FOR THE REFLECTIONS? that is crazy! this looks like a very promising PC port right there and only solidified my decision to go with the PC version even more.

is there an FOV slider tho? that is something that can easily be modded usually but still would be good to know

Ghostwire Tokyo is some good stuff. It even looks great on a 1080GTX. Just started playing it.

I will have to try it on the laptop with my RTX card. I really need to put the 3060RTX into my desktop PC.

Oh. Yeah. You definitely want to turn on DLSS if you are using raytracing. That is what it is there for. They might as well make it turn on by default if you use raytracing.

It’s probably the best game I’ve played this year that no one talks about. It went completely under the radar. Looks tremendous and the gameplay although repetitive is highly addictive.

I don’t mind repeating tasks when the world looks as interesting as in Ghostwire. It’s a sight for sore eyes if you’re fed up with tropical beaches and banana trees.

Also, it’s the first game to make me want to get a VRR TV for the unlocked frame rates on PS5. It’s not going to happen, though.

I seems like that game plays best with a mouse and keyboard. I have not tried it with a controller.
I don't know if the XBox One controller has a gyroscope in it. It seems like that is needed to break the seals.

You just use the mouse for that on a PC. I guess you just use a stick on the controller.

What is neat about the game is that it plays off all the old yokai folklore, like it is a real thing. Not many things do that. You got Yokai Watch and GeGeGe no Kitaro.

Crunchyroll has the new Kitaro series. They also have some recent movies, but they are harder to get in America.
For some reason, the rarely translate that stuff to English. I got a book with the old Kitaro comics.

Definitely revisit it with a Dualsense if you get one down the road. You use the touch pad to break the seals (or analog stick). Unless I'm mistaken, there is no gyro in Ghostwire, just great rumble and resistant triggers. Controller speaker too but I played with headphones the entire time so didn't experience it.

The rumble and resistant triggers are the best that I've experienced so far on PS5.

Yea, it's a shame. Dog piled for a variety of shallow reasons.

I won't say that people are flat out wrong if they don't like it, but the amount of dog piling it got, so ridiculous. It's a solid game across the board and has received a ton of support via patches and extra options, etc.

I wonder if I can use the Dualsense on the PC version.

Edit: Yes. It looks like it does. Deathloop also supports it.

I thought it was great as well, Tokyo with raytracing just looked amazing and all the Japanese creepy urban legends were fun (especially the train to nowhere mission).

I love the colors in the game, absolutely gorgeous.

The atmosphere is spot on and can put you edge when it wants you to be. Going deeper into the subway tunnels, and then the area with the massive shrine, so awesome.

The bulk of the side missions too are really thoughtful and touching. The mechanics in them might repeat from other missions but the little stories within each one were really effective.

Have they added FOV options? Been waiting for that before I get it.

I was playing and had to pick up a call. I was looking at the screen while talking and it started to rain in the game. The music was swelling as well. It’s super atmospheric and beautiful. It’s one of those games you can just leave it on and it totally creates a mood. I took a screenshot during the call. :D

Those big video screens were playing some abstract ads. Lush visuals. If it holds up to the end, it might end up being my game of the year.

More screens from today:
