Gran Turismo 7 has been largely unplayable for half a day due to extended server maintenance (VCG)

9 years and they are more microsoft than microsoft ever got chance to be. They deserve some grilling for this but I doubt they will really get it.

Just hope it comes back online soon for those who want to play it.
This.

Microsoft was completely reamed at the time… and Sony was one of the first to jump on the bandwagon…

I’m amazed that a game like GT7 even requires an online connection. Outside of updates to fix bugs in the game and content updates, you should be able to play the game - period.

Its ok to provide enhanced experience if you happen to be online and want to take advantage of it, but to make a conscious design decision to require it for no real reason is absurd.

Update - game is still broken for me. Even with update it says I need an update and can only play offline. Time for work anyway but this is not looking good.

If this weekend starts without this problem solved...they will have to start allowing refunds at least for sure...this is a mess.
I would have already asked for a refund and reversed the charge on my CC for this kind of crap by now. This is also why I rarely buy any game on release date anymore…

I don't necessarily mind games being always online, but you sure as hell better get your infrastructure correct and deployment processes seamless. Right now I have a game on my PS5 that I can not play because they can't get their shit together, there should be some form of compensation for time offline.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Holy shit it took NINETEEN MINUTES to copy a 350MB update ?

This is a car crash to forgive the pun. Could defend the progression but this is pretty embarrassing m, sticking to online only blowing up in your face. Still love the game mins you.

It's Tom Warren and PlayStation. 19 seconds to download this already sounds like a lie...but to me, the Copy part took only me less than 10 minutes. Still ridiculous but yeah.

He could potentially be using a slower m.2 drive... going to go do this now and will report back.

Tom must be on dial up then because it took him 19mins apparently. It was 20 seconds 😉
he said 19 minutes to transfer the file to the system not to download it, reading will not hurt you

Polyphony has released Gran Turismo 7 update 1.08, but the servers are still offline. I downloaded the 354MB update in 20 seconds, and it took 19 minutes for the PS5 to copy the update file to confirm the game is still offline

?? 19 seconds to download a 380 MB file is pretty normal if you have a decent connection. you can download 100 GB in 12 minutes if you have 1Gbps internet.

The copy thing drives me nuts because Cerny specfically said that the copy after patches would go away thanks to the PS5 ssd.

I upgraded my internet recently to 1 GBps and had to downgrade to 500 Mbps because of issues with my router, and was still able to download the entire 96 GB of Horizon in 20 minutes. But small 500 MB patches take 15-20 minutes to copy. It makes no sense.

This is so bad and exact reason why I am buying games on a discs...
But this game is on a disc and still won't work offline from what I understand. Unacceptable

I know. i have it too. It's just that usually PS servers aren't that fast to me. I took almost 1 minute for this patch but yeah that depends on a lot of things.
Did the update 30 min ago. 13 Seconds to DL and a long ass time to copy it's indeed ridiculous.
I don't really care but it's weird. Just want to play this week end.

I played the shit out of GT Sports and very rarely do I remember servers being down. This is not the norm, but it made sense in GT Sports because other than time trials and licenses, there was literally no single player content in that game. It made sense that it was online only. It makes no sense in GT7 considering it has a single player campaign.

This is exactly what happens when critics and fans alike simply give in to shitty consumer practices. If critics had docked points for this and fans had revolted the moment it was announced as always online, this would not have happened. Even Dark Souls can be played offline.

Is it present on PS5 only games, like Ratchet and Clank? Or is it just with cross-gen games? I am not entirely sure, why that would be in any case...
