Kaz: To all our users (about the GT7 servers being down)

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
I think it's pretty clear : if no events has significant pay advantage there is no reason to chose one race in particular for the grind

Lowering the overall credits in the game does not make it less likely players will need to grind races, it makes it more likely.

You can have online rankings without forcing an "always online" game.

There is no need to compromise at all.

You can compare your lap times in other racing games, too.
These games don't need an always online connection for single player.

They claim it's prone to hacking if it works offline. It makes sense to me.

If not the case, the offline career/singleplayer records could work, but for any online competition it'd be a huge mess if people could do laps offline.

Fuck right off Kazuo, I don't give a shit about your sitty vision about this game, I play this to "drive" rare cars I wouldn't be able to in real life, not to pay stupid amounts of money or grind stupid amounts of time to get them, you fucker.

Shorter Kaz: "We want in game prices to look like the real prices to make the car brands feel good about licensing their cars to us. We don't want players grinding forever to buy a $3 million super car. So pay up, bitches."
Perfect for nfts so you can be the real owner like in real life 😂

I thought the point of a game was to do things you can't do in real life. I guess if someone lives in the USA and plays they should not be allowed to buy an R34 skyline as those are not legal here, just so we can reflect the rarity of it.

Why not legal? 😂

How would hacking even work for a PlayStation 5 game?
And even if, then Sony makes people suffer because they are bad at security.

It's pretty sad watching GT burn the way it is. They alienated a lot of their fanbase with GTS. I know many were hoping that it was an anomaly, and that GT7 would be a return to form. Unfortunately that's obviously not the case though.

From an always online singleplayer, to the whole shadyness of the car prices and how they hid that from reviewers, to them failing to even keep the game online consistently so soon after release, to Kaz's piss poor explanation for it. It's clear Gran Turismo as it used to be is gone. It's been replaced with whatever shitshow this is.

Good luck for those who decide to stick around though. I've got a feeling you're gonna need it... along with a lot of money going forward.

Idk why these game companies keep shooting themselves in the foot. The fact is, eventually GT7 is going to lose the online requirement because people are going to lose their fucking minds every time they go to play and the server is down. It's just a matter of time before they give in.

And the microtransaction nonsense will backfire and force a refresh too. We've seen this happen so many times, and somehow it's still being tried, and always ends with a letter saying "we hear you, we screwed up".

In GT7 I would like to have users enjoy lots of cars and races even without microtransactions.

I think people are taking this statement out of context a bit. I think he is saying that while there is a highend/rarity system they do also support a lot of value in the lower end of the CR economy.

There's a discussion to be had about the market value of the top end cars in terms of in game currency but the model is fine imo.

I've been playing FH5 since launch. Each week I do the playlist, use my FP for anything I don't own, redeem my wheelspins and buy vehicles I need for the playlist or tunes with my CR. I have like 3 mill in my bank and these are the most expensive cars in the game

I own two of them already but would have to grind them out if I wanted the rest - I haven't verified them against current prices. Overall I have like 488/577 cars I think. And that is a game that chucks cars at you apparently. I had to grind 10 mill in FH4 to buy the castle to get the last barn find as well. Sometimes context needs to be added.

GT7 is a circuit racer, grinding is what the game is. Spending a week just trying to knock .05 from a lap time for example. The second statement is basically saying he doesn't want a core set of races people are grinding because they give out unbalanced rewards. Play the game as it's meant to be and earn credits while playing the game. Not playing specific circuits to gain CR.

As for the issue not being caught no idea what to say about that. Sounds like they updated the server version which has a client match check they can't disable so they had no option.

Don't be silly, do you know how much that car cost in GT2?
full

There would be another article about Sony charging too much in game credits that you "must" use real money and there would be crying on the levels of reeeee within seconds.

They could be sued for deception.

The mtx option didn't exist during the review period. The game was made online mode, which restricts the users gameplay on certain times (maintenance).

They have a case. But that will depend on how strong their case is though.

Go out and get some fresh air. Video games aren’t that serious.

The reason for making GT7 online only is obvious. They don't want you to cheat SP to get every car, but rather to perhaps buy credits.

The sad thing is, I knew there would be a catch after the games huge reveal. The catch is the grind pushing towards using real money.

That might be part of it, but the truth is FIA required an online requirement to prevent cheating in the Sport eSports mode that's linked on the World Map.

If they detached that mode as a separate menu option from the main menu then the World Map could in theory be offline. But they're drunk on the prestige that the FIA license gives them.

The whole point of that online drm bs is so you can't grind pre-patched credits and always online to buy car packs.

I don't think GT7 has a FIA license anymore. There's no mention of FIA anywhere.

There’s also the launch of the first FIA competitive events. Gran Turismo World Series Nations Cup Test Season 1 will get under way next week. You can enter now with whatever your driver rating is, or you can try and improve it through the week and then lock yourself in.

Is there any official source mentioning FIA? Even the screenshot shows "FIA" name and logo is absent, unlike in GT Sport.

Before it was "FIA GT Nations Cup" in Sport.

That's from the press release saying it's FIA. And FIA has their own channel in Brand Central under the French section.

No word of FIA there, so far Brand Central is the only place it's mentioned.

Not that it matters to me, but so far nothing indicates that the championships are FIA licensed.

It's a PS4 game as well and the console can be hacked. Eventually, they can find a way to hack PS5 save files as well, but I'm not an expert in software security.

Anyway, many who are overreacting to always online and saying the game is ruined because it was offline (for a day) are imagining GT7 as an offline singleplayer game when in reality a good part of it depends on online data, and these are very important features, like comparing lap times in real time, auto-upload of hot lap replays, credit system, driver stats, etc.

Besides, it's 2022 and it doesn't make sense to trade all the convenience of online features for that rare event of a downtime, or for the benefit of hermits who want to play offline.

Why cant these online stat features be offline SP gamers too?

As much as Im loving GT7, they really need to make an offline mode. No reason not to.
This is the first racing game Ive been into since like the PS2 days and Im having a blast, but they really need an offline mode. Im sure they can do something where Sport mode is seperate etc

They’re making it seem like someone out there is playing todays games offline in the last 6 years online gaming has exploded.

Apologies for my ignorance, but can someone explain why they couldn't just patch out the cheating exploits from previous games instead of going always online? What about the game stops them from stopping cheaters and what does cheating entail?
It's about the games model and design. Cheating is about where PD stores data for the game. Polyphony wants GT to be an online MMO for racing with sponsorships, FIA approved championships, sporting events etc. To have this they decided that the game will live on servers. Your progress, cars, money, sponsorships etc would be on secure servers and you will log in and play. GT Sport was this but there was a lot of backlash about a lack of meaningful campaign mode. They added more of this in GT7 with what they thought was a good game decision from GT sport ie being able to earn cars and credits in single player that carry over everywhere to your multiplayer. They kept all data in the cloud still for security. That bit them in the ass with an unfortunate extended maintenance recently though.

Think of it like Clash of Clans. You have an online game with a mostly single player portion where you are not attacking. All your progression still lives in the cloud. You need to be online to play.

GT7 after the feedback of GT Sport included a lot more single player content but it still has progression in the cloud and its game model is the same.

One thing they can do is separate online and offline progression ie you can't use the cars/money you earn offline to play online and vice versa but I think more people will be unhappy about that than the online requirement.

Not a lot of big GaaS type games now offer a separate offline mode unfortunately. GTA 5 has this separation of offline and online though but that is mostly story driven and less about your properties and ingame money . Your character, money and things you've unlocked in the shared world differ to what there is in online mode.

I'm just glad that GT7s single player mode is great and it at least has a single player which seems to get less and less every year in place of GaaS multiplayer games. Others especially the usual suspects who complain for console wars tend to kick up an exaggerated fuss. That's not to dismiss others who are sincere and may have genuine concerns though but the usual suspects are as transparent as ever with the threads they are trying to bombard.
