almost makes me want to wait and see if they do release a wireless version. i likely wont be buying any big video game related purchases for the foreseeable future (for many reasons, availability among them but not the only one), so it might work out that way anyway.
It is not even a matter of if but when. They have talked about wireless VR and are working on it. Numerous patents allude to it and it's not those anti-troll patent but actual technology patent.

They have this old one. the antenna they have for wigi 2 is probably smaller than the one in this picture. Not sure if that's suppose to be a camera like with the old tracking method, or a wigig antenna. My guess would be the antenna because that would absolutely be needed with the higher frequency (60 ghz).

With controllers if they sold it at $500 it would be a big loss for a while. I hope it don't retail for $600 but I'd still buy it day 2.

The specs are pretty damn good.

Lol day 1 typo but I left it in.

Yeah, the specs on this thing make it seem like it's going to be tough to sell for less than $500. Marketing it as also a tv you can use for standard flat PS games in a virtual big screen environment could help. Plug this into ps5 and no tv needed.

I bought RE Village a while back, haven't started it yet... And now I wonder if I should wait, just in case Sony gets Capcom to make a VR mode for it. I played RE7 the old fashioned way (don't own a PSVR), and it was cool, but I'm currently playing RE4VR on my Quest 2, and it's just awesome. Sure, it looks like an HD GameCube game (well, there are some other improvements), but blowing heads off is just more fun in VR.

It was this thread where someone was dying on the hill of psvr 2 not having eye tracked foveated rendering and only eye tracking for avatars correct? Well, that can be officially put to rest now.

"Eye tracking

Interact in new and lifelike ways, as the PS VR2 headset detects the motion of your eyes1, allowing for heightened emotional response and enhanced expression when meeting fellow players online.

Eye tracking cameras follow your line of sight when aiming or looking around, while advanced foveated rendering techniques improve the visual experience by adjusting resolutions to pinpoint and enhance whatever you’re focusing on."

Today, I am especially pleased to reveal the stunning new design of our next generation VR headset, PlayStation VR2, together with an updated and final design image of our PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.

You’ll notice the PS VR2 headset has a similar shape as the PS VR2 Sense controller, taking on a matching “orb” look. The circular orb shape represents the 360-degree view that players feel when they enter the virtual reality world, so this shape captures it nicely.

The design of the PS VR2 headset was also inspired by the look of the PS5 family of products. When our design team created the PS5 console, they also had the next generation VR headset in mind so you’ll notice some similarities in the look and feel. The PS5 console has flat edges as it is meant to be displayed on a flat surface, while there was more emphasis on adding roundness to the design of PS VR2 headset since it is meant to have constant human contact, similar to the rounded edges of the DualSense controller and Pulse 3D headset.

Our goal is to create a headset that will not only become an attractive part of your living room decor, but will also keep you immersed in your game world, to the point where you almost forget you are using a headset or controller. That’s why we paid very close attention to the ergonomics of the headset and conducted extensive testing to ensure a comfortable feel for a variety of head sizes. We already had a lot of positive feedback on the ergonomics of the first PS VR headset by carefully balancing the headset weight and having a simple headband that can be adjustable, so we kept the same concept for the PS VR2 headset. Other features such as the headset’s adjustable scope that places the scope area closer or further away from the face and placement of the stereo headphone jack also remain the same, so players will be familiar with it.

Can't wait to experience HFW in whatever fashion and especially GT with this new headset.

Have they mentioned how this interfaces with the PS5? Like will we have to use a breakout box like the PSVR and if so will it be HDMI 2.1 so that all of our tv features are usable while it's hooked up? I don't want a repeat of the original PSVR.

I was waiting for improvements to VR to try it and I'm very interested now after seeing the specs, the new controllers and the haptics.
Quest 2 still the standard imo.

It's very hard to beat the Quest 2 wireless design and built in audio. These two things are very important for a good VR experience.

It will use the USB-C port on the PS5
