Xbox has unveiled a new publishing division focused on ‘cloud-native’ games

There are things consoles can't do yet now, due to the limitations.
The cloud could handle those things.
Yes but when you talk about a single player game in regard to physics and lighting you're describing what xCloud instances do

This is about

"concurrent scale for players and make that more engaging? How can we have more players in a space than we’ve ever seen before?’"

This is metaverse stuff. They aren't going to make single player cloud games that do what xCloud or your local console does with better physics and graphics.

Elderscrolls online is a single player game. You can have games like these, which contain gamers. Same with elden ring.

Aside of SP mode, it could be used as MMORPG scale, BR, and other form of online games.

Its not strictly for Meta.

Elder Scrolls Online is an MMO. I'm not sure how you're defining that as single player when it's 'Massively Multiplayer'.

I've been telling a buddy of mine that my days of playing new games are winding down and that something will likely happen to accelerate that. Cloud gaming is a very likely candidate. I am at peace with it, as I have hundreds of games I have not yet played and hundreds more that I would enjoy replaying more than many new games.

"Finally, runtime calculations could be used to “increase horsepower at runtime”, leading to improved graphics rendering, AI agents, randomisation (for crowd scenes, for example), destruction effects"

This is the most interesting part, going beyond the limits of the hardware, looking forward to seeing this in practice.

I don't know if that really exists though. The only real difference with hardware now is in settings. Look at MS flight sim 2020.
Think about this:

Consumers are limited to PS5 & Xbox Series X specs right now so devs can't make a game that require 32GB of RAM or over 500GB of storage but if you make a game that's being processed in the cloud you could actually make a game that's over 1TB because it don't need to be downloaded to a local console or stored on a Blu-ray

Lot if salty fanboys in comment.

Cloud eventually will catch up, its just a natural evolution of any media/software
Cloud is hardware . It is a console you rent. You can rent an expensive car that you could not otherwise afford, but you dont own it. And you cant scale up the renting.

Cloud is not magic, it is just a rental service of hardware. You can rent a supercomputer via cloud right now, but you can't sell a AAA game that run on it because there isn't enough capacity.

That's exactly what XB1 promised with the infamous "power of the cloud", no?

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Xbox is at war with PlayStation and Nintendo they’re trying to organize cloud gaming more to fight off Amazon and google for example.

Do you understand the powerhouse of those data centers, which the cloud runs on?

Consoles are like miniscule of that power.

the ability to create QA bots which can use machine learning to test games on a huge scale

QA being replaced by AI bots has been one of my gaming predictions for some time, minus the cloud element. No need for often 100's of testers playing the game round the clock anymore. Although the quality of the bot lead testing is going to be questionable at best.

This is all coming together now it makes this Kojima Rumor way realer now

Was this still only just a rumor? I thought it was confirmed that Kojima was making an exclusive Xbox game.

I don't care for his stuff, but I will definitely check out a cloud game by him (so long as it's on Game Pass)!

Sort of, but even back then, "Power of the Cloud" was just a few concepts of what could happen, as well as aspects of an online game which would be needed to processed in the cloud since local computation would throw off all connected consoles in sync (thus the initial version of Crackdown 3, which ultimately didn't work as expected despite a tech demo at one point sort of / kind of pulling off the intended effects.)

Flight Sim is probably a much greater and more fully implemented version of "power of the cloud" in action, with just way too much data to be included in an offline package and so many live services running together that it pushes the complexity and exacting details of the experience beyond what you could have if it was just on your drive. We're still in a fledgling state of the technology, though (and we still only have a small handful of examples even of why we need this kind of online, networked power just to play a videogame.)

It is only powerful when one person uses it. When ten thousand people try to play at the same time, it is weak. You can't scale up the rental enough.

Are we back to the idea of cheering always online agames again?

People expect games with a persistent online component to be always online, yes.

It’s like whining about Fortnite requiring an internet connection. Or COD MP.

For example, Online adds nothing to GT7 single player mode, so some people are puzzled why it’s needed. Why would anyone be upset that a game that requires networked cloud computing to enrich the game, has to be online?

Its a single player game. You do all the content by yourself. Only dungeons require you to pair up. But most of the quest is SP.
I guess you're right in that it can be done solo and some might prefer to play like that but they created it as an online game with a concurrent world in mind.

That is the only difference.
Its like Call of duty, halo, and other single player games having online multiplayer mode. Its just that ESO needs always online to work. Like how gt7 is doing now. Its single player game, but the devs made it always online.

Bro, it’s labeled as an MMO, the devs call it an MMO, it’s a damned MMO, even with a sub model.

As long as the games can be downloaded I'm fine

If they are cloud only then fuck off. I've tried cloud gaming with game pass and it's ass.
By definition, a "cloud native" game will require the cloud in some capacity, hence a cloud focused division. Otherwise it is simply a standard game that can be played locally OR streamed.

You are basically demanding Madden to not be a football game, or Polyphony Digital to make Gran Turismo not a racing game. It doesn't make sense. You can choose not to like it, but demanding that it be completely downloadable is nonsensical.

Sure, if you are a mindless consumer and dont’ mind having your rights taken away.

Cloud gaming is a cancer.

What rights are you talking about?
Gamers never had that right to begin with.
You buy a product, and its useless after 8 years. Then you buy another one, and its becomes useless after 8 years. You have been giving up your rights, since gaming started for a long time.

What a dumbass thing to say. I have physical games from the 70s that still work, flawlessly. The vast, vast, *vast* majority of games that are on physical don’t require patches to be playable or require online connections to play. Meanwhile digital has already had numerous events where you are unable to play the games you purchased. Streaming/Cloud-Based Gaming? You are literally just renting a game and can have it removed at any point with zero control.

But keep on defending trash, mate. Maybe someday you will actually get paid for your shilling.

You have consoles, which doesnt get any updates, because it was discontinued. Your games are at a risk of getting damaged. If your games gets damaged, you will have a hard time getting copies of those games.
Stop acting like you have everything. You dont. You are literally at the mercy of your shelf not getting any accident, and those shiny products on your shelf not getting damaged.

Fucking hell, mate. You are even more of a comedian than I thought you were.

It isn’t difficult to keep things safe and damage free unless you are a slob. But are you seriously trying to compare personal responsibility as being the same as having a company tell you when you can/can’t play a game? Seek serious mental help.

Because that is how easy for you to lose your owned products.

You accused me of giving up my rights for wanting to play games. You are no different than me.

Different is, I am enjoying myself now, and dont have to worry about stocking up games, because I am afraid of losing my rights as a "GAMER".

Except it isn’t that easy. Barring things out of your control like theft or natural disasters, which already have incredibly low chances to begin with, the only thing you have to worry about it not being a dumbass with your physical items. Same with a car, or plates. These can feasibly last for multiple generations more without an issue. Hell, they *have* lasted two generations as is.

That isn’t “giving up rights”. Meanwhile subscribing to a streaming service? Promoting cloud-based gaming that guarantees that you are at the mercy of a developer that *will* shut down the game? That is giving up your rights.
